The Chinese "Oppression" remedy: Creative interpretations of company law by Chinese courts
This is the first detailed study of the Chinese oppression remedy under the PRC Company Law (article 20.1-2). Compared to its U.K., Canadian, and Australian equivalents, the wording of the Chinese remedy is vague, and the Supreme People's Court has not clarified its meaning. Legal scholars have virtually ignored this remedy due to its vagueness and apparent unenforceability, and the Supreme People's Court has not produced any authoritative interpretations to clarify its meaning. Yet Chinese courts have acted pragmatically, building up a body of de facto case precedents to transform this remedy into an effective tool for minority shareholders, both Chinese and foreign (and in some cases companies too), to obtain redress for a broad range of wrongs committed by abusive shareholders. At the same time, the vagueness of the statute has led courts to draw differing conclusions over issues such as who is a proper plaintiff; how the oppression remedy relates to the derivative action; and how the term "shareholder" should be defined. These differences need to be addressed by the Supreme People's Court or by legislative amendment to avoid further inconsistent outcomes for parties involved in intra-corporate disputes in China. Alternatively, the use of case precedents based on online judgment databases should be formalized in China to bring more predictability to statutory interpretation and more consistency among courts throughout the country
Non-linear relationships between density and demographic traits in three Aedes species
Understanding the relationship of population dynamics to density is central to many ecological investigations. Despite the importance of density-dependence in determining population growth, the empirical relationship between density and per capita growth remains understudied in most systems and is often assumed to be linear. In experimental studies of interspecifc competition, investigators often evaluate the predicted outcomes by assuming such linear relationships, ftting linear functions, and estimating parameters of competition models. In this paper, we experimentally describe the shape of the relationship between estimated population rate of change and initial density using laboratory-reared populations of three mosquito species. We estimated per capita growth rate for these experimental populations over a 30-fold range of larval densities at a standard resource abundance. We then compared fts of linear models and several diferent nonlinear models for the relationship of estimated rate of change and density. We fnd that that the relationship between density and per capita growth is strongly non-linear in Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus), Aedes albopictus (Skuse), and Aedes triseriatus (Say) mosquitoes. Components of population growth (survivorship, development time, adult size) are also nonlinearly related to initial density. The causes and consequences of this nonlinearity are likely to be important issues for population and community ecology
Electromagnetic form factors of light vector mesons
The electromagnetic form factors G_E(q^2), G_M(q^2), and G_Q(q^2), charge
radii, magnetic and quadrupole moments, and decay widths of the light vector
mesons rho^+, K^{*+} and K^{*0} are calculated in a Lorentz-covariant,
Dyson-Schwinger equation based model using algebraic quark propagators that
incorporate confinement, asymptotic freedom, and dynamical chiral symmetry
breaking, and vector meson Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes closely related to the
pseudoscalar amplitudes obtained from phenomenological studies of pi and K
mesons. Calculated static properties of vector mesons include the charge radii
and magnetic moments: r_{rho+} = 0.61 fm, r_{K*+} = 0.54 fm, and r^2_{K*0} =
-0.048 fm^2; mu_{rho+} = 2.69, mu_{K*+} = 2.37, and mu_{K*0} = -0.40. The
calculated static limits of the rho-meson form factors are similar to those
obtained from light-front quantum mechanical calculations, but begin to differ
above q^2 = 1 GeV^2 due to the dynamical evolution of the quark propagators in

Nonperturbative Vertices in Supersymmetric Quantum Electrodynamics
We derive the complete set of supersymmetric Ward identities involving only
two- and three- point proper vertices in supersymmetric QED. We also present
the most general form of the proper vertices consistent with both the
supersymmetric and U(1) gauge Ward identities. These vertices are the
supersymmetric equivalent of the non supersymmetric Ball-Chiu vertices.Comment: seventeen pages late

Energetic and Environmental Constraints on the Community Structure of Benthic Microbial Mats in Lake Fryxell, Antarctica.
Ecological communities are regulated by the flow of energy through environments. Energy flow is typically limited by access to photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and oxygen concentration (O2). The microbial mats growing on the bottom of Lake Fryxell, Antarctica, have well-defined environmental gradients in PAR and (O2). We analyzed the metagenomes of layers from these microbial mats to test the extent to which access to oxygen and light controls community structure. We found variation in the diversity and relative abundances of Archaea, Bacteria and Eukaryotes across three (O2) and PAR conditions: high (O2) and maximum PAR, variable (O2) with lower maximum PAR, and low (O2) and maximum PAR. We found distinct communities structured by the optimization of energy use on a millimeter-scale across these conditions. In mat layers where (O2) was saturated, PAR structured the community. In contrast, (O2) positively correlated with diversity and affected the distribution of dominant populations across the three habitats, suggesting that meter-scale diversity is structured by energy availability. Microbial communities changed across covarying gradients of PAR and (O2). The comprehensive metagenomic analysis suggests that the benthic microbial communities in Lake Fryxell are structured by energy flow across both meter- and millimeter-scales
Mean field exponents and small quark masses
We demonstrate that the restoration of chiral symmetry at finite-T in a class
of confining Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) models of QCD is a mean field
transition, and that an accurate determination of the critical exponents using
the chiral and thermal susceptibilities requires very small values of the
current-quark mass: log_{10}(m/m_u) < -5. Other classes of DSE models
characterised by qualitatively different interactions also exhibit a mean field
transition. Incipient in this observation is the suggestion that mean field
exponents are a result of the gap equation's fermion substructure and not of
