Responsibility of a nurse during exercise of her profession

    No full text
With the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union there has arisen a necessity of some changes in the Czech legislation. One of them is also a reform of competencies of health care professionals in paramedical professions. Creation of favourable all-society conditions for independent activities of nurses represents an effective trend of continuous improving of provided care quality. However, it is necessary to be aware of the fact that the independence is also connected with responsibility. Provision of nursing care requires knowledge of generally binding regulations and legislation, which reduce the number of critical incidents and errors. The theoretical part of the Bachelor´s degree thesis was dedicated to a detailed analysis of Decree No. 424/2004 Coll., and then it dealt with the responsibility of nurses within the legal, ethical and moral standards. The Bachelor´s degree thesis aims at the mapping out of the areas of activities of general nurses with the most frequent incidence of malpractice, and at the determining of the methods of forming the procedures that prevent the nurses from making the errors. Two hypotheses have been stipulated. One hypothesis presumes that the most frequent incidence of errors is connected with administration of medication. The other hypothesis presumes that general nurses are not familiarized with the exact wording of the Decree No. 424/2004 Coll. to the corresponding extent. In order that the objectives of the Bachelor´s degree thesis could be attained and the hypotheses verified, the inquiry method by means of a questionnaire was used. The sample was formed by nurses from the whole Czech Republic, who were finishing their specialization education in the National Centre of Nursing and Other Health Professions in Brno. According to the results of the study most of the errors occur during administration of medication. Although procedures have been formed that prevent the nurses from making the errors, it is clear that they do not quite fulfil their function. The results of the research have proved both the above-mentioned hypotheses. Among the suggested measures aiming at better preparation of general nurses for their professional careers there belongs, without doubt, the improvement of legal awareness within the framework of qualification education, especially concerning the acceptance of responsibility and consequences arising from the behaviour. It is also necessary to call upon the head workers to analyze (regularly and in detail) the past critical incidents, to determine the malpractice risks and to implement measures for minimizing adverse events occurrence

The research was partially inspired by sandwich constructions, where the core delivering lightweight attribute and covering material the strength. In the research particleboards covered by different overlays were produced. The bending strength, modulus of elasticity, tensile strength and swelling properties were determined. Properties were compared with particleboard without overlay as well as between each tested group using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and descriptive statistics. The HPL shown the most promising results while veneered surface delivered further questions considering swelling

The research was partially inspired by three-layer particle boards with a density of approximately 600 kg/m3 in various variants. The recycled wood was used for manufacture these particleboards in different portion: 10, 30, 60 and 90%. Of each variant were produced two boards of dimensions 600 x 600 x 12 mm, altogether eight boards. Laboratory produced chips of recycled material and chips of pure wood were separated in the surface and core layer. The chips were separated by sieve analysis. Subsequently they were prepared and processed into boards with different amounts of recycled wood. Also, two boards were pressed from a control chips from Kronospan Jihlava that used in the production mixed chips with recycled wood and which provided a reference desks of industrial production for this research too. The moisture content, density, swelling properties, bending strength, modulus of elasticity and tensile strength were determined on the ten boards produced in laboratories Mendel University in Útěchov and on four boards from Kronospan. Properties were compared with control and reference particleboards as well as between each tested group using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and descriptive statistics

    Safe Nursing Care

    No full text
Patients{\crq} safety is a global problem and we are increasingly thinking about the possibilities of improving the quality of care provided. This is a priority for all health care providers, including nurses. We must not forget the patients and their close family because they are our partners and the nurses should seek to ensure that the patients themselves are actively involved in the care of their health and play an important role in preventing some unwanted errors. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to a detailed analysis of the concept of safety and safe care and the associated negatives. The goal of the thesis was to determine which resources are used to maintain the level of safe nursing care by nurses with specialized training. Six hypotheses were determined. The quantitative survey technique was used to achieve the objectives of this thesis and to verify the hypotheses. The group consisted of nurses from all over the Czech Republic in the month of February 2010 studying on a specialized training course of the NCO/ NZO (National Center of Nursing/ Non- medical health disciplines) in Brno. The results imply that the nurses interviewed do not use enough resources to help reduce the risk of errors leading to an increase in the level of safe nursing care. The proposed measures are intended to increase the use of resources for maintaining the level of safe nursing care which is a clearly dependent on the awareness of their existence. This also strongly urges management to make more use of various resources and inform all medical staff not only nurses about new procedures and analyses carried out on a regular basis. Managers should conduct a regular and detailed analysis of past errors or incidents to establish the risk of error and take steps to minimize such unwanted events. The results of the survey will be provided to the professional public, published in professional journals and can serve as a basis for comparing other survey research
