    Rearrangements and Dilatancy for Sheared Dense Materials

    Constitutive equations are proposed for dense materials, based on the identification of two types of free-volume activated rearrangements associated to shear and compaction. Two situations are studied: the case of an amorphous solid in a stress-strain test, and the case of a lubricant in tribology test.     Forecasting wind speed data by using a combination of ARIMA model with single exponential smoothing

    Wind serves as natural resources as the solution to minimize global warming and has been commonly used to produce electricity. Because of their uncontrollable wind characteristics, wind speed forecasting is considered one of the best challenges in developing power generation. The Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), Simple Exponential Smoothing (SES) and a hybrid model combination of ARIMA and SES will be used in this study to predict the wind speed. The mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and the root mean square error (RMSE) are used as measurement of efficiency. The hybrid model provides a positive outcome for predicting wind speed compare to the single model of ARIMA and SES

    Preparation of Some Eco-friendly Corrosion Inhibitors Having Antibacterial Activity from Sea Food Waste

    Chitosan is one of the important biopolymers and it is extracted from exoskeletons of crustaceans in sea food waste. It is a suitable eco-friendly carbon steel corrosion inhibitor in acid media; the deacetylation degree of prepared chitosan is more than 85.16 %, and the molecular weight average is 109 kDa. Chitosan was modified to 2-N,N-diethylbenzene ammonium chloride N-oxoethyl chitosan (compound I), and 12-ammonium chloride N-oxododecan chitosan (compound II) as soluble water derivatives. The corrosion inhibition efficiency for carbon steel of compound (I) in 1 M HCl at varying temperature is higher than for chitosan and compound (II). However, the antibacterial activity of chitosan for Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans is higher than for its derivatives, and the minimum inhibition concentration and minimum bacterial concentration of chitosan and its derivatives were carried out with the same strain

    The prevalence of cardiac autonomic neuropathy in pure type II diabetic patients

    Cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) has a negative effect on survival and quality of life in people with diabetes mellitus (DM) and is regarded as a subtype of the diabetic autonomic neuropathy. This type of neuropathy is the most prominent focusing because of its life threatening and the availability of the cardiovascular tests that can diagnose it. This study aims to determine the prevalence of CAN in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This cross sectional study included 103 (56 males and 47 females) pure diabetic patients without hypertension or pre-diagnosis of ischemia. They had attended to the diabetic center in Marjan Medical City in Hilla from March 2013 to February 2014. The patients had undergone thorough assessments that included clinical (history and full examination). The study found that  most of the diabetic patients presented with CAN (72.8%). Patients with CAN were older when compared to patients without CAN (p?0.01) and  had longer duration of DM (p?0.01). The most abnormal sympathetic response was diastolic blood pressure response to hand grip while the most abnormal parasympathetic response was heart rate response to breathing. On contrary, the lowest abnormal response was found in postural blood pressure test. In conclusion, This study concludes that CAN is a common complication of type 2 diabetes that affected a large percentage of diabetic patients. The duration of the diabetes and the age of patients are important non modifiable risk factors for the development of CAN. Additionally, heart rate variability is considered as an important test for early detection of CAN. Key words: Diabetes mellitus, Cardiac autonomic neuropathy, Cardiac autonomic reflex test

    Incoherent Transport through Molecules on Silicon in the vicinity of a Dangling Bond

    We theoretically study the effect of a localized unpaired dangling bond (DB) on occupied molecular orbital conduction through a styrene molecule bonded to a n++ H:Si(001)-(2x1) surface. For molecules relatively far from the DB, we find good agreement with the reported experiment using a model that accounts for the electrostatic contribution of the DB, provided we include some dephasing due to low lying phonon modes. However, for molecules within 10 angstrom to the DB, we have to include electronic contribution as well along with higher dephasing to explain the transport features.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

    An improved load shedding scheduling strategy for solving power supply defisit

    When high electricity demand growth not matched by the growth in generating capacity, energy deficit problem cannot be avoided. Power outages of up to 6 hours per day are part of the power crisis experienced by electricity consumers in Sumatra. The utility has applied load shedding approach to tackle the problem, however, there are weaknesses on the current load shedding program. It is discovered that most of the power outage occurs randomly without any prior notice and sometime lasted for many hours. Load shedding program is not properly scheduled and not fairly distributed among all consumers. A proper scheduling program must have a clear periodic schedule, fixed outage hours, fairly distributed and alternated among consumers and most importantly solve energy deficit problem. This paper presented an improved load shedding scheduling strategy based on Round Robin method. The method is then illustrated and applied on actual daily load profile of Sumatra electrical system

    TASTE MASKING OF PRIFINIUM BROMIDE IN ORODISPERSIBLE TABLETS

    Objective: In previous work, Prifinium Bromide had been successfully formulated as oro-dispersible tablets. However, Prifinium Bromide, a quaternary ammonium compound, has a bitter taste; therefore, taste masking was necessary to produce acceptable oro-dispersible tablets and enhance patients' compliance. Methods: In this work, several attempts had been made to mask the bitterness of this drug. β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, solid dispersions of the drug in ethyl cellulose and methyl cellulose as well as loading the drug on Eudragit E100 have all been used. The selected granules were used to prepare oro-dispersible tablets and were evaluated. Results: Drug-Eudragit granules E3 prepared by mass extrusion method gave less than 10% of drug in simulated saliva fluid and almost complete release in simulated gastric fluid after 2 minutes. Therefore, it was used to prepare oro-dispersible tablets formulas. In vitro disintegration time of formula T2 was 45.5 ± 7.7 seconds showed a complete drug release of Prifinium Bromide in phosphate buffer (pH 6.8) and (94%) in SGF (pH 2.1). Conclusion: Loading of Prifinium Bromide on Eudragit E100 using mass extrusion method was the best method to overcome the disagreeable taste of the drug. They gave the least amount of drug released in simulated saliva fluid and passed the quality control tests of tablets after formulation as oro-dispersible tablets. They also gave good taste when tested in vivo
