    Infectious Disease Mortality Prediction

    Get PDF
When mortality statistics are reported for infectious diseases, they commonly reflect the ratio for the entire population impacted from it. This causes an underestimation since the frail members of the population are impacted at a higher rate. With the remaining healthy members, the mortality rate becomes skewed. With this project, we study predicting mortality under varying frailty conditions to account for the hidden heterogeneity\u27s impact on the parameter estimates.https://ir.library.illinoisstate.edu/ursmat/1000/thumbnail.jp

This paper investigates the extent and level of mandatory and voluntary disclosure practice of companies in Bangladesh. The paper has been conducted on the sample of 54 listed companies in Bangladesh for a data period of 2010 to 2013. This paper also reports the results of the association between company specific characteristics and mandatory as well as voluntary disclosure of the sample companies. Findings indicate on an average 71% of the companies analyzed disclose above-average number of additional information. The explanatory analyses has shown that firm size in terms of total asset and status of the company significantly and positively affect the level and extent of voluntary disclosure in the annual report of Bangladeshi companies. In case of mandatory disclosure level results point out that companies in general have not reacted adequately to the mandatory disclosure requirements of the regulatory bodies. The study reveals that disclosure compliance is poor among listed companies. They disclosed an average of 50.62% of the items selected during the study period of 2010 to 2013. The minimum score found in the study is 20.89% and the maximum is 77.08%. Using panel data regression analysis this study has found that company age and the status of the company (industry type) have appeared to be significant factors for mandatory disclosure. On the other hand company size in terms of total asset and sales, and company profitability was also found to have no effect on mandatory disclosure. Bangladesh as a developing country has been seeing a lot of dependence in digital money transaction with which people’s habit of Online shopping is increasing furthermore. To understand people’s shopping behavior more concretely we went ahead and did a research on it. The main incentive of the research is to find out the shopping behavior of the people in Bangladesh and the kind problem that people are generally facing that is working as a discouraging factor. For this reason, a structured and closed ended questionnaire was used on a random sample population to know the behavior of the people regarding online shopping. From the answers of those questions, it is found that, the 18-23 years old people do the online shopping most. Moreover, male persons are more likely to do shopping on online than the female group. For shopping, most of the people use “Facebook Pages” according to our research. Here, many people are also unaware of the apps that the online shopping service provider provides. Not only that, most purchased items on online is clothing and after that most purchased item is food. While purchasing foods from the online, most people choose “Food Panda”. Our survey also found that for buying electronic gadgets most people use daraz.com and evaly.com. Much to our surprise, a lot of people doing online shopping on a regular basis feel quite secured on the platform. However, most people think that online services need to be improved and we saw a lot of complains about the displayed or descripted product not matching the actual product. Moreover, they are also unhappy with delivery service that online service providers provide to the customer. The most alarming part that we found out through our survey is many people are taking online shopping service but the frequency is too low, which is once in a month. Another major complain about online shop is delivery issues. Most of the cases it seems that delay in delivery for products create lot of problem for customers. Keeping all those behaviors and dissatisfactions of the consumer in our mind, we have tried to recommend some strategy to the online service provider to remove those dissatisfactions among the people. If these issues and problems like these can be resolved, more people might accept the process of Online Shopping and a lot of people might consider doing Online Shopping more frequently. The main objective of this research paper is to understand how people in Bangladesh view the whole platform of Online Shopping, it’s perks and problems and how it can be improved more to attract more in order to attract more people toward the platform. HOACS: Homomorphic Obfuscation Assisted Concealing of Secrets to Thwart Trojan Attacks in COTS Processor

Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components are often preferred over custom Integrated Circuits (ICs) to achieve reduced system development time and cost, easy adoption of new technologies, and replaceability. Unfortunately, the integration of COTS components introduces serious security concerns. None of the entities in the COTS IC supply chain are trusted from a consumer's perspective, leading to a ''zero trust'' threat model. Any of these entities could introduce hidden malicious circuits or hardware Trojans within the component, allowing an attacker in the field to extract secret information (e.g., cryptographic keys) or cause a functional failure. Existing solutions to counter hardware Trojans are inapplicable in such a zero-trust scenario as they assume either the design house or the foundry to be trusted and consider the design to be available for either analysis or modification. In this work, we have proposed a software-oriented countermeasure to ensure the confidentiality of secret assets against hardware Trojans that can be seamlessly integrated in existing COTS microprocessors. The proposed solution does not require any supply chain entity to be trusted and does not require analysis or modification of the IC design. To protect secret assets in an untrusted microprocessor, the proposed method leverages the concept of residue number coding (RNC) to transform the software functions operating on the asset to be fully homomorphic. We have implemented the proposed solution to protect the secret key within the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) program and presented a detailed security analysis. We also have developed a plugin for the LLVM compiler toolchain that automatically integrates the solution in AES. Finally, we compare the execution time overhead of the operations in the RNC-based technique with comparable homomorphic solutions and demonstrate significant improvement

In this experiment, we study the scale free network property of an organizational communication network. We used social network analysis methods during organizational crisis period that captures the dynamics of communication networks. We did not find any significant fluctuation between the actor prominence in daily and aggregated networks. We found that email communication network displays a high degree of scale free behavior described by power law

UNDERSTANDING COMMUNICATION NETWORK COHESIVENESS DURING ORGANIZATIONAL CRISIS: EFFECTS OF CLIQUE AND TRANSITIVITY

Various terms such as organizational mortality, organizational death, bankruptcy, decline, retrenchment and failure have been used in the literature to characterize different forms and facets of organizational crisis. Communication network studies have typically focused on nodes (individuals or organizations), relationships between those nodes, and subsequent affects of these relationships upon the network as a whole. Email networks in contemporary organizations are fairly representative of the underlying communications networks. We show that changes in communication networks and its associated group cohesiveness have implications for studying organizational crisis. In this paper, we analyze the changing communication network structure at Enron Corporation during the period of its crisis (2000-2001). Our goal was to understand how communication patterns and structure were affected by organizational crisis. Drawing on communication network crisis and group cohesiveness theory, we tested several propositions using the Enron email corpus: (1) Number of cliques increases, and (2) Communication network becomes increasingly transitive as organizations experience crisis. The results of the tests and their implications are discussed in this paper

For sustainable development of a country access to electricity in every moment is now the basic need for the current civilization. Power crisis is one of the major barriers for economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh lacks in fossil fuel reservation. Abundance of renewable energy sources in the form of solar energy, wind energy provides opportunities of renewable energy based hybrid energy system in the coastal areas of Bnagladesh. Energy generation by hybrid system reduces the generation cost and will help in balancing the cost of energy. Again a standalone renewable enegy incorporated hybrid energy system will reduce load demand from the grid and will be an eco-friendly energy system. This paper proposed a cost effective design of standalone solar-wind-diesel hybrid power system in a coastal area of Bangladesh. Considering different conditions for a coastal area design and simulation of the hybrid power system was performed. Detailed economic analysis and comparison with solar based and diesel based energy system clearly reveals that proposed hybrid power system was found a cost effective solution for coastal areas of bangladesh.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.83
