    THE INFLUENCE OF MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING WRITING SKILL

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan perbedaan signifikan pada prestasi menulis siswa setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik mind mapping dan apakah mind mapping dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan aspek menulis pada istilah organisasi, kosa kata, dan tata bahasa. Penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif berdasarkan desain eksperimental. Sampel dipilih secara acak dengan menggunakan lotere yaitu kelas XI IPA1. Data diperoleh dengan mengadakan pretest, posttest dan treatment. Peneliti menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test dalam menganalisa data yang dikumpulkan. Level signifikan adalah 0,05 dan hipotesa dibuktikan jika tanda p. Hal itu dapat dilihat dari hasil t-test yang menunjukkan sig. (2-tailed)  adalah ,000. Ini dapat diperkirakan bahwa H1 diterima dan H0 ditolak karena 0,000 0,05. Jadi kita dapat menyimpulkan bahwa ada peningkatan signifikan dari prestasi siswa setelah mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik mind mapping.The aims of this study are to find out significant difference in students’ writing achievement after being taught by using mind mapping technique and whether or not mind mapping can be used to increase students’ writing aspect in terms of organization, vocabulary, and grammar. This research was quantitative based on the experimental design. The sample was chosen randomly by using lottery that was XI IPA1. The data were gained by administering pretest. posttest and treatments. The researcher used Repeated Measure t-test in analyzing the data collected. The significance level is in 0.05 and the hypothesis is approved if sign p. It can be seen that t-test result showed sig. (2-tailed) is .000. It can be inferred that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected since 0.000 0.05.     DEVELOPING SUPPLEMENTARY VOCABULARY MATERIAL FOR EFL YOUNG LEARNERS

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan materi pembelajaran kosakata tambahan untuk siswa sekolah dasar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 4 SD yang terdiri dari 25 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain modifikasi R D (Research and Development cycle proposed by Borg Gall) yang memiliki beberapa tahapan yakni uji kebutuhan, studi referens, pengembangan materi, uji validitas ahli, uji coba, dan produk. Data Penelitian dijaring menggunakan observasi, tes kosakata, lembar validasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa tidak bisa mempelajari kosakata lebih karena terbatas materi pembelajaran kosakata, weather, job, clothes, dan sport menjadi topik pengembangan materi kosakata tambahan dan uji validitas dari ahli I 81,53%, II 78,46%, III 84,61%, dan IV 78,46 % menunjukan bahwa produk yang dikategorikan baik. Dari hasil temuan dan proses dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk supplementary vocabulary ini dapat memfasilitasi siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata.The objective of this research was to develop supplementary vocabulary material for EFL young learners. The subject of this research was the fourth grade students of SD Alkautsar consisting of 25 students. This study used R D cycle modified from R D proposed by Ball and Gall. The data were collected using observation, vocabulary test, validation sheet, and interview. The result showed that the students couldn’t learn more vocabulary and they concerned to the grammatical focus because the activities and tasks were limited, weather, job, clothes and sports are the topics developed, and expert validation from expert I 81,53%, II 78,46%, III 84,61%, and IV 78,46 % showed that the product was categorized as good criteria. The findings and the process indicate that the product of the study which is in the form workbook can facilitate students learning vocabulary through supplementary vocabulary material.Keywords: material development, research and development, supplementary vocabulary

    THE USE OF PICTURE SERIES IN IMPROVING STUDENTS SPEAKING RECOUNT TEXT SKILL

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat adakah perbedaan signifikan kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajar dengan picture series dan melihat jenis picture series yang paling efektif untuk mengajar speaking. Subjek terdiri dari 30 siswa kelas X dari SMAN. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain time series dengan memberikan 3 kali pre-test, 3 kali perlakuan, dan tiga kali post-test. Peneliti menggunakan 2 rater untuk menilai penampilan berbicara siswa. Pair sample t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data kuantitatif dan hipotesis dengan SPSS (16.0). Hasil analisa pertama 11.031 (t-value) 2.048, analisa kedua 14.955 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), analisa ketiga 23.108 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), hasilnya menunjukan ada perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajar dengan picture series. Dari ketiga picture series, jenis picture series dari google image adalah yang paling efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.The aims of this research were to find out whether there is any significant difference of students speaking ability after being taught by using picture series and to know which one of picture series is effective for teaching speaking. The subjects of this research consisted of 30 students of SMAN Grade X. The study employed times series design by giving three pre-tests, three treatments, and three post-tests. There were two raters to judge the students speaking performance. Pair sample t-test was used to analyze the quantitative data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS (16.0). The result is 1st pair 11.031 (t-value) 2.048, 2nd pair 14.955 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), 3rd pair 23.108 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table) means that there are significant differences of students speaking ability after being taught by using picture series.     AN ANALYSIS OF THE PROCESS OF TEACHING PRONUNCIATION THROUGH SONG

    Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa proses pengajaran pronunciation menggunakan lagu dan menentukan pengucapan fricatives consonants yang sulit bagi siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan desain triangulasi menggunakan instrumen; observasi dan tes. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan probabiliti sampling acak sederhana. Pengajaran dan uji coba dilakukan di kelas. Data dianalisis dengan melihat hasil dari observasi dan tes. Hasil pengujian menunjukan bahwa proses pengajaran menggunakan lagu diterima dengan baik oleh siswa dan juga mereka memperbaiki pronunciation mereka dan siswa tetap menemukan kesulitan dalam mengucapkan kata-kata yang berisi fricatives consonants.This research aims to analyze the process of teaching pronunciation through song and determine mispronounced friction/fricatives sounds that is done by the students. This qualitative descriptive employed triangulation with two kinds of Instruments; observation sheets and pronunciation test.One class is randomly taken as sample of the research by using lottery. Teaching and learning conducted in the sample class. The data were analyzed based on the result of observation and pronunciation test. The result of the research showed that the process of teaching pronunciation through song is well accepted by the students well and it can improve students pronunciation and the students still find difficulties in pronouncing the words containing fricatives consonants.Keywords: fricatives consonants, observation, pronunciation tes

    INCREASING STUDENTS’ LISTENING ABILITY THROUGH PICTURE DICTATION

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peningkatan dari kemamupan mendengar siswa setelah diajar menggunakan tekhnik pendikitian gambar. Penelitian ini adalah quantitave desain dengan satu kelompok pre-test dan post-test. Populasi dari penelitan ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP N 1 Bukit Kemuning yang terdiri dari VII-I sampai VII-6, Dengan 34 siswa dari setiap kelas. Data dalam penelitian ini di analisis dengan menggunakan rumus t-test. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang siknifikan dari kemampuan mendengarkan siswa dari belum mendapatkan perlakuan sampai setelah mendapat perlakuan dari pendektean gambar. Jumlah keseluruhan dari pre-test siswa adalah 1970 dan post-test siswa 2380. Rata-rata dari nilai pre-test adalah 57.92 dan post-test 72.12 atau meningkat sekitar 14.18%. Itu membuktikan bahwa nilai siswa meningkat secara siknifikan  karna P0.05 (p=0.000). The objective of the research is to find out whether there is the improvement of students’ listening ability after being taught by picture dictations technique. This research was quantitative research which has one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Bukit kemuning that consists of six classes, VII-1 until VII-6, and each of class consists of 32-36 students. The sample of this research was VII-3 which is selected by simply lottery drawing. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula.The result of the research showed that there is a significant difference of students’ listening achievement before and after being taught through picture dictations technique. The total score of pre-test was 1970 and post-test was 2380. The increase was 410. The mean score of pre-test was 57.92 and post-test was 72.12 or increased about 14.18%.     THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ASIAN-PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE IN TEACHING SPEAKING AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah tekhnik ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa, dan untuk mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang dihadapi siswa selama proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini melibatkan 30 siswa kelas XI IPA II SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung tahun ajaran 2013/2014 dan menggunakan desain penelitian one group pretest-posttest serta menggunakan observasi, kuesioner, dan rekaman video dan audio. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan dari kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah mempelajari tekhnik debat Parlementer Asia. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretest sebesar 46.33, nilai rata-rata pada posttest sebesar 60.53, dan t-ratio lebih tinggi dari t-table (10.249 2.045). Siswa menemukan berbagai kendala pada proses pembelajaran. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa proses penerapan berjalan sukses dengan indikator peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa.The objectives of the research were to examine wether or not the Asian Parliamentary Debate technique can increase the students’ speaking ability, and to identify the students’ problems during the learning process. This research involved 30 students of XI IPA II Class of SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung academic year 2013/2014 and employed the one group pretest-posttest design. This research used the observation sheet, questionnaire, and video and audio recording to collect the data. The result showed that there was a significant increase of the the students’ speaking ability after being taught by using this technique. The students’ mean score in the pretest was 46.33, the mean score in the posttest was 60.53, and t-ratio is higher than t-table (10.249 2.045). The students found many obstacles during the teaching and learning process.     TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH SCANNING TECHNIQUE

    One of the strategies which is considered applicable to teach students’ reading comprehension is scanning technique. Therefore, this research was intended to find out whether there was a significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement in identifying the specific information after being taught through scanning technique. This research was conducted at SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung. The population of this research was the second year students. The students were given three treatments. As the instrument, the researcher used objective reading test, that is, multiple choice test. Repeated Measures t-test was used to analyze the data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 15.0 at the level significant of .05. Based on the calculation of t-test, the result shows that there is significant increase on students’ reading comprehension after being taught through scanning technique (p.05, p=.000), with the increase of mean point in pretest and posttest was 21.17.  Keywords: reading comprehension, scanning technique, specific information.
