Microscopic entropy of the charged BTZ black hole

The charged BTZ black hole is characterized by a power-law curvature singularity generated by the electric charge of the hole. The curvature singularity produces ln r terms in the asymptotic expansion of the gravitational field and divergent contributions to the boundary terms. We show that these boundary deformations can be generated by the action of the conformal group in two dimensions and that an appropriate renormalization procedure allows for the definition of finite boundary charges. In the semiclassical regime the central charge of the dual CFT turns out to be that calculated by Brown and Henneaux, whereas the charge associated with time translation is given by the renormalized black hole mass. We then show that the Cardy formula reproduces exactly the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the charged BTZ black hole.Comment: 9 pages, no figure

A note on Kerr/CFT and free fields

The near-horizon geometry of the extremal four-dimensional Kerr black hole and certain generalizations thereof has an SL(2,R) x U(1) isometry group. Excitations around this geometry can be controlled by imposing appropriate boundary conditions. For certain boundary conditions, the U(1) isometry is enhanced to a Virasoro algebra. Here, we propose a free-field construction of this Virasoro algebra.Comment: 10 pages, v2: comments and references adde

On the CFT duals for near-extremal black holes

We consider Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black holes near extremality and work out the near-horizon geometry of these near-extremal black holes. We identify the exact U(1)_L x U(1)_R isometries of the near-horizon geometry and provide boundary conditions enhancing them to a pair of commuting Virasoro algebras. The conserved charges of the corresponding asymptotic symmetries are found to be well defined and non-vanishing and to yield central charges c_L\neq0 and c_R=0. The Cardy formula subsequently reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole. This suggests that the near-extremal Kerr-Newman-AdS-dS black hole is holographically dual to a non-chiral two-dimensional conformal field theory.Comment: 11 page

    State/Operator Correspondence in Higher-Spin dS/CFT

A recently conjectured microscopic realization of the dS4_4/CFT3_3 correspondence relating Vasiliev's higher-spin gravity on dS4_4 to a Euclidean Sp(N)Sp(N) CFT3_3 is used to illuminate some previously inaccessible aspects of the dS/CFT dictionary. In particular it is argued that states of the boundary CFT3_3 on S2S^2 are holographically dual to bulk states on geodesically complete, spacelike R3R^3 slices which terminate on an S2S^2 at future infinity. The dictionary is described in detail for the case of free scalar excitations. The ground states of the free or critical Sp(N)Sp(N) model are dual to dS-invariant plane-wave type vacua, while the bulk Euclidean vacuum is dual to a certain mixed state in the CFT3_3. CFT3_3 states created by operator insertions are found to be dual to (anti) quasinormal modes in the bulk. A norm is defined on the R3R^3 bulk Hilbert space and shown for the scalar case to be equivalent to both the Zamolodchikov and pseudounitary C-norm of the Sp(N)Sp(N) CFT3_3.Comment: 24 page

    A near-NHEK/CFT correspondence

We consider excitations around the recently introduced near-NHEK metric describing the near-horizon geometry of the near-extremal four-dimensional Kerr black hole. This geometry has a U(1)_L x U(1)_R isometry group which can be enhanced to a pair of commuting Virasoro algebras. We present boundary conditions for which the conserved charges of the corresponding asymptotic symmetries are well defined and non-vanishing and find the central charges c_L=12J/hbar and c_R=0 where J is the angular momentum of the black hole. Applying the Cardy formula reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole. This suggests that the near-extremal Kerr black hole is holographically dual to a non-chiral two-dimensional conformal field theory.Comment: 11 pages, v2: references updated, adde

ZZ boundary states and fragmented AdS2 spaces

In this paper we show that Liouville gravity on the strip with Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov (ZZ) boundary conditions has a semi-classical interpretation in terms of fragmented AdS2 spacetime geometries. Further, we study the three-point functions of the ZZ boundary states, and show that they are dominated by multi-AdS2 instantons in the classical limit.Comment: 27 pages, 14 figures; minor changes, references adde

5D Extremal Rotating Black Holes and CFT duals

Kerr/CFT correspondence has been recently applied to various types of 5D extremal rotating black holes. A common feature of all such examples is the existence of two chiral CFT duals corresponding to the U(1) symmetries of the near horizon geometry. In this paper, by studying the moduli space of the near horizon metric of five dimensional extremal black holes which are asymptotically flat or AdS, we realize an SL(2,Z) modular group which is a symmetry of the near horizon geometry. We show that there is a lattice of chiral CFT duals corresponding to the moduli points identified under the action of the modular group. The microscopic entropy corresponding to all such CFTs are equivalent and are in agreement with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.Comment: 10 pages, the consistency of the boundary condition is explicitly shown in a new sectio

Yet Another Realization of Kerr/CFT Correspondence

The correspondence between the Kerr black hole and a boundary CFT has been conjectured recently. The conjecture has been proposed first only for the half of the CFT, namely for left movers. For right movers, the correspondence has been also found out through the suitable asymptotic boundary condition. However, the boundary conditions for these two studies are exclusive to each other. The boundary condition for left movers does not allow the symmetry of right movers, and vice versa. We propose new boundary condition which allows both of left and right movers.Comment: 6 pages, references adde

Microscopic Realization of the Kerr/CFT Correspondence

Supersymmetric M/string compactifications to five dimensions contain BPS black string solutions with magnetic graviphoton charge P and near-horizon geometries which are quotients of AdS_3 x S^2. The holographic duals are typically known 2D CFTs with central charges c_L=c_R=6P^3 for large P. These same 5D compactifications also contain non-BPS but extreme Kerr-Newman black hole solutions with SU(2)_L spin J_L and electric graviphoton charge Q obeying Q^3 \leq J_L^2. It is shown that in the maximally charged limit Q^3 -> J_L^2, the near-horizon geometry coincides precisely with the right-moving temperature T_R=0 limit of the black string with magnetic charge P=J_L^{1/3}. The known dual of the latter is identified as the c_L=c_R=6J_L CFT predicted by the Kerr/CFT correspondence. Moreover, at linear order away from maximality, one finds a T_R \neq 0 quotient of the AdS_3 factor of the black string solution and the associated thermal CFT entropy reproduces the linearly sub-maximal Kerr-Newman entropy. Beyond linear order, for general Q^3<J_L^2, one has a finite-temperature quotient of a warped deformation of the magnetic string geometry. The corresponding dual deformation of the magnetic string CFT potentially supplies, for the general case, the c_L=c_R=6J_L CFT predicted by Kerr/CFT.Comment: 18 pages, no figure

    2D Gravity on AdS2AdS_2 with Chern-Simons Corrections

We study 2D Maxwell-dilaton gravity with higher order corrections given by the Chern-Simons term. The model admits three distinctive AdS2AdS_2 vacuum solutions. By making use of the entropy function formalism we find the entropy of the solutions which is corrected due to the presence of the Chern-Simons term. We observe that the form of the correction depends not only on the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term, but also on the sign of the electric charge; pointing toward the chiral nature of the dual CFT. Using the asymptotic symmetry of the theory as well as requiring a consistent picture we can find the central charge and the level of U(1) current. Upon uplifting the solutions to three dimensions we get purely geometric solutions which will be either AdS3AdS_3 or warped AdS3AdS_3 with an identification.Comment: 15 pages; V2: refs adde
