Associated Top Quark-Higgs Boson Production at the LHC

    Get PDF
We compute the O(alpha_s^3) inclusive cross section for the process pp -> t-tbar-h in the Standard Model, at sqrt(s)=14 TeV. The next-to-leading order corrections drastically reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the Born cross section and increase the total cross section for renormalization and factorization scales larger than m_t. These corrections have important implications for models of new physics involving the top quark.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, RevTeX

Silicon Pad Detectors for the PHOBOS Experiment at RHIC

The PHOBOS experiment is well positioned to obtain crucial information about relativistic heavy ion collisions at RHIC, combining a multiplicity counter with a multi-particle spectrometer. The multiplicity arrays will measure the charged particle multiplicity over the full solid angle. The spectrometer will be able to identify particles at mid-rapidity. The experiment is constructed almost exclusively of silicon pad detectors. Detectors of nine different types are configured in the multiplicity and vertex detector (22,000 channels) and two multi-particle spectrometers (120,000 channels). The overall layout of the experiment, testing of the silicon sensors and the performance of the detectors during the engineering run at RHIC in 1999 are discussed.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 1 table, Late

Charm quark and D^* cross sections in deeply inelastic scattering at DESY HERA

    Get PDF
A next-to-leading order Monte Carlo program for the calculation of heavy quark cross sections in deeply inelastic scattering is described. Concentrating on charm quark and D^*(2010) production at HERA, several distributions are presented and their variation with respect to charm quark mass, parton distribution set, and renormalization-factorization scale is studied.Comment: 15 pages including 8 figures. Expansion in SL_d(Z/qZ), q arbitrary

Let S be a fixed finite symmetric subset of SL_d(Z), and assume that it generates a Zariski-dense subgroup G. We show that the Cayley graphs of pi_q(G) with respect to the generating set pi_q(S) form a family of expanders, where pi_q is the projection map Z->Z/qZ

Next-to-Leading Order Cross Sections for Tagged Reactions

We extend the phase space slicing method of Giele, Glover and Kosower for performing next-to-leading order jet cross section calculations in two important ways: we show how to include fragmentation functions and how to include massive particles. These extensions allow the application of this method to not just jet cross sections but also to cross sections in which a particular final state particle, including a DD or BB-meson, is tagged.Comment: 36 pages, Latex Small corrections to text. Associated Higgs production with top quarks at the Large Hadron Collider: NLO QCD corrections

We present in detail the calculation of the O(alpha_s^3) inclusive total cross section for the process pp -> t-tbar-h, in the Standard Model, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_H)=14 TeV. The calculation is based on the complete set of virtual and real O(alpha_s) corrections to the parton level processes q-qbar -> t-tbar-h and gg -> t-tbar-h, as well as the tree level processes (q,qbar)g -> t-tbar-h-(q,qbar). The virtual corrections involve the computation of pentagon diagrams with several internal and external massive particles, first encountered in this process. The real corrections are computed using both the single and the two cutoff phase space slicing method. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections significantly reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the Born cross section and moderately increase the Born cross section for values of the renormalization and factorization scales above m_t.Comment: 70 pages, 12 figures, RevTeX4: one word changed in the abstract, one sentence reworded in the introduction. The perseverance of Pacioli's goods inventory accounting system

    Get PDF
This paper details sources of the 'undoubtedly strange' (Yamey, 1994a, p.119) system of goods inventory records described in Pacioli’s 1494 bookkeeping treatise and traces the longevity and widespread use of this early perpetual inventory recording (EPIR) system in English language texts. By doing so and contrasting this system with the bookkeeping treatment of modern texts, it is shown that the EPIR system persisted as the dominant form of goods inventory accounting for between 400 and 500 years and that the reasons for its demise are worthy of further consideration and research

    Super AutoDipole

The publicly available package for an automated dipole subtraction, AutoDipole, is extended to include the SUSY dipoles in the MSSM. All fields in the SM and the MSSM are available. The code is checked against the analytical expressions for a simple process. The extended package makes it possible to compute the QCD NLO corrections to SUSY multi-parton processes like the stop pair production plus jets at the LHC.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, v2: a few typos to match the published version in Eur. The fully differential single-top-quark cross section in next-to-leading order QCD

    Get PDF
We present a new next-to-leading order calculation for fully differential single-top-quark final states. The calculation is performed using phase space slicing and dipole subtraction methods. The results of the methods are found to be in agreement. The dipole subtraction method calculation retains the full spin dependence of the final state particles. We show a few numerical results to illustrate the utility and consistency of the resulting computer implementations.Comment: 37 pages, latex, 2 ps figure
