Interacting Random Walkers and Non-Equilibrium Fluctuations
We introduce a model of interacting Random Walk, whose hopping amplitude
depends on the number of walkers/particles on the link. The mesoscopic
counterpart of such a microscopic dynamics is a diffusing system whose
diffusivity depends on the particle density. A non-equilibrium stationary flux
can be induced by suitable boundary conditions, and we show indeed that it is
mesoscopically described by a Fourier equation with a density dependent
diffusivity. A simple mean-field description predicts a critical diffusivity if
the hopping amplitude vanishes for a certain walker density. Actually, we
evidence that, even if the density equals this pseudo-critical value, the
system does not present any criticality but only a dynamical slowing down. This
property is confirmed by the fact that, in spite of interaction, the particle
distribution at equilibrium is simply described in terms of a product of
Poissonians. For mesoscopic systems with a stationary flux, a very effect of
interaction among particles consists in the amplification of fluctuations,
which is especially relevant close to the pseudo-critical density. This agrees
with analogous results obtained for Ising models, clarifying that larger
fluctuations are induced by the dynamical slowing down and not by a genuine
criticality. The consistency of this amplification effect with altered coloured

The local power of the gradient test
The asymptotic expansion of the distribution of the gradient test statistic
is derived for a composite hypothesis under a sequence of Pitman alternative
hypotheses converging to the null hypothesis at rate , being the
sample size. Comparisons of the local powers of the gradient, likelihood ratio,
Wald and score tests reveal no uniform superiority property. The power
performance of all four criteria in one-parameter exponential family is

Rescue of neurological deficits in a mouse model for Angelman Syndrome by reduction of αCaMKII inhibitory phosphorylation
Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a severe neurological disorder characterized by mental retardation, motor dysfunction and epilepsy. We now show that the molecular and cellular deficits of an AS mouse model can be rescued by introducing an additional mutation at the inhibitory phosphorylation site of αCaMKII. Moreover, these double mutants do no longer show the behavioral deficits seen in AS mice, suggesting that these deficits are the direct result of increased αCaMKII inhibitory phosphorylation
Displaced but not replaced: the impact of e-learning on academic identities in higher education.
Challenges facing universities are leading many to implement institutional strategies to incorporate e-learning rather than leaving its adoption up to enthusiastic individuals. Although there is growing understanding about the impact of e-learning on the student experience, there is less understanding of academicsâ perceptions of e-learning and its impact on their identities. This paper explores the changing nature of academic identities revealed through case study research into the implementation of e-learning at one UK university. By providing insight into the lived experiences of academics in a university in which technology is not only transforming access to knowledge but also influencing the balance of power between academic and student in knowledge production and use, it is suggested that academics may experience a jolt to their âtrajectory of selfâ when engaging with e-learning. The potential for e-learning to prompt loss of teacher presence and displacement as knowledge expert may appear to undermine the ontological security of their academic identity

The supersymmetric solutions of PT-symmetric and Hermitian/non-Hermitian
forms of quantum systems are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation for
the Exponential-Cosine Screened Coulomb potential. The Hamiltonian hierarchy
inspired variational method is used to obtain the approximate energy

Numerical Solutions of ideal two-fluid equations very closed to the event horizon of Schwarzschild black hole
The 3+1 formalism of Thorne, Price and Macdonald has been used to derive the
linear two-fluid equations describing transverse and longitudinal waves
propagating in the two-fluid ideal collisionless plasmas surrounding a
Schwarzschild black hole. The plasma is assumed to be falling in radial
direction toward the event horizon. The relativistic two-fluid equations have
been reformulate, in analogy with the special relativistic formulation as
explained in an earlier paper, to take account of relativistic effects due to
the event horizon. Here a WKB approximation is used to derive the local
dispersion relation for these waves and solved numerically for the wave number

Linear Field Dependence of the Normal-State In-Plane Magnetoresistance of Sr2RuO4
The transverse and longitudinal in-plane magnetoresistances in the normal
state of superconducting Sr2RuO4 single crystals have been measured. At low
temperatures, both of them were found to be positive with a linear
magnetic-field dependence above a threshold field, a result not expected from
electronic band theory. We argue that such behavior is a manifestation of a
novel coherent state characterized by a spin pseudo gap in the quasi-particle
excitation spectrum in Sr2RuO4.Comment: 4 pages + 5 figure
Nucleation versus Spinodal decomposition in a first order quark hadron phase transition
We investigate the scenario of homogeneous nucleation for a first order
quark-hadron phase transition in a rapidly expanding background of quark gluon
plasma. Using an improved preexponential factor for homogeneous nucleation
rate, we solve a set of coupled equations to study the hadronization and the
hydrodynamical evolution of the matter. It is found that significant
supercooling is possible before hadronization begins. This study also suggests
that spinodal decomposition competes with nucleation and may provide an
alternative mechanism for phase conversion particularly if the transition is
strong enough and the medium is nonviscous. For weak enough transition, the

Current Fluctuations of the One Dimensional Symmetric Simple Exclusion Process with Step Initial Condition
For the symmetric simple exclusion process on an infinite line, we calculate
exactly the fluctuations of the integrated current during time
through the origin when, in the initial condition, the sites are occupied with
density on the negative axis and with density on the positive
axis. All the cumulants of grow like . In the range where , the decay of the distribution of is
non-Gaussian. Our results are obtained using the Bethe ansatz and several
identities recently derived by Tracy and Widom for exclusion processes on the
