The critical approach to Michael Hardt and Antonio Negriâs work, on the concepts of bio-power and empire, is oriented, in this article, particularly towards the way Hardt and Negri are, simultaneously, tributary to Michel Foucaultâs thought on bio-politics and advance, on the other hand, new critical possibilities of counter-power, in the form of life potency, against surveillance and control in current experience
An Induction Principle for the Weighted p-Energy Minimality of x/|x|
In this paper, we investigate minimizing properties of the map from
the Euclidean unit ball to its boundary ,
for the weighted energy functionals . We establish the following induction
principle: if the map
minimizes among the maps satisfying on , then the map
minimizes
among the maps
satisfying on . This result enables us to enlarge
the range of values of and for which minimizes

The New 'Hidden Abode': Reflections on Value and Labour in the New Economy
This paper engages with the works of Autonomist Marxists, such as Hardt, Negri and Arvidsson, who have argued that the so-called ânew economyâ, which is characterized by a new importance of immaterial labour, knowledge and processes of consumption, gives rise to a new law of value and changed labour relations in what they call the âsocial factoryâ. While we see a lot of value in this emerging body of literature â particularly in terms of its potential for critiquing relatively narrow debates in critical organization and management studies â this paper critiques the highly optimistic analyses put forward by Hardt, Negri and Arvidsson, especially with regard to their claims for a new autonomy and freedom of labour emerging out of the ânew economyâ. We counter these claims by showing how in contemporary capitalism, despite the discourses of autonomy and freedom, labour is continuously subjected to control, measurement and governance
Foundation and empire : a critique of Hardt and Negri
In this article, Thompson complements recent critiques of Hardt and Negri's Empire (see Finn Bowring in Capital and Class, no. 83) using the tools of labour process theory to critique the political economy of Empire, and to note its unfortunate similarities to conventional theories of the knowledge economy
