Three-loop HTLpt thermodynamics at finite temperature and chemical potential
In this proceedings we present a state-of-the-art method of calculating
thermodynamic potential at finite temperature and finite chemical potential,
using Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) up to
next-to-next-leading-order (NNLO). The resulting thermodynamic potential
enables us to evaluate different thermodynamic quantities including pressure
and various quark number susceptibilities (QNS). Comparison between our
analytic results for those thermodynamic quantities with the available lattice

Representations of swine flu: Perspectives from a Malaysian pig farm

The final published article is available from the link below.Novel influenza viruses are seen, internationally, as posing considerable health challenges, but public responses to such viruses are often rooted in cultural representations of disease and risk. However, little research has been conducted in locations associated with the origin of a pandemic. We examined representations and risk perceptions associated with swine flu amongst 120 Malaysian pig farmers. Thirty-seven per cent of respondents felt at particular risk of infection, two-thirds were somewhat or very concerned about being infected. Those respondents who were the most anxious believed particular societal “out-groups” (homosexuals, the homeless and prostitutes) to be at higher infection risk. Although few (4%) reported direct discrimination, 46% claimed friends had avoided them since the swine flu outbreak. Findings are discussed in the context of evolutionary, social representations and terror management theories of response to pandemic threat
The Implication of Misstatement to Retained Earning Based on SAK
This study examines the implications of misstatement to retained earnings based on Financial Accounting Standards (SAK). It takes manufacturing companies in Indonesia as case study. The study found several misstatements such as misstatements on receivables, taxes on prepaid rent, rent, depreciation, account payable, interest loan, and classification of loan. The results of the study found that the implications of misstatement is the decline in retained earnings by 26%. Misstatements that are not recorded will cause the financial statements to be unreliable. Accountants must update themselves to the development of SAK and the role of higher education is necessary to produce competent graduates who are able to identify and know the effects that will arise on the misstatement.

Far-Field Plasmonic Resonance Enhanced Nano-Particle Image Velocimetry within a Micro Channel
In this paper, a novel far-field plasmonic resonance enhanced
nanoparticle-seeded Particle Image Velocimetry (nPIV) has been demonstrated to
measure the velocity profile in a micro channel. Chemically synthesized silver
nanoparticles have been used to seed the flow in the micro channel. By using
Discrete Dipole Approximation (DDA), plasmonic resonance enhanced light
scattering has been calculated for spherical silver nanoparticles with
diameters ranging from 15nm to 200nm. Optimum scattering wavelength is
specified for the nanoparticles in two media: water and air. The
diffraction-limited plasmonic resonance enhanced images of silver nanoparticles
at different diameters have been recorded and analyzed. By using standard PIV
techniques, the velocity profile within the micro channel has been determined

Uric Acid as a Potential Peripheral Biomarker for Disease Features in Huntington's Patients.
Oxidative stress has long been implicated in the pathophysiology and progression of Huntington's disease (HD). Uric acid (UA) is a naturally occurring antioxidant that is present in the brain and periphery. Growing evidence has implicated UA as a molecular biomarker for several neurodegenerative diseases, most notably Parkinson's disease (PD). In this study, we investigated UA levels in clinical samples from HD patients and normal controls (NCs) and assessed potential relationships between UA levels and disease and clinical data. UA levels were measured in plasma (n = 107) and saliva (n = 178) samples from premanifest (pre-HD) and manifest HD patients and control subjects. Gender effects of UA levels were observed in both biofluids, with male patients showing higher UA levels compared to female patients. Comparisons of UA levels across diagnostic groups, separated by gender, revealed that both plasma and salivary UA levels were significantly lower in female pre-HD and manifest HD patients compared to NCs. Salivary levels of UA were also significantly lower in male manifest HD patients versus controls, but not in plasma. Correlations of peripheral UA levels to clinical data also showed differences according to gender. In male HD patients, both plasma and salivary UA levels were significantly negatively correlated with total functional capacity (TFC), while positive correlations were observed with total motor score (TMS). Female HD patients showed a significant positive correlation between plasma UA levels and TMS, while salivary UA levels from female patients were significantly correlated to disease burden. Finally, in a separate cohort, we show that UA levels are decreased in postmortem prefrontal cortical samples (n = 20) from HD subjects compared to matched controls. These findings suggest that decreased levels of UA in the brains of HD patients can be reflected in peripheral fluids, with salivary measures of UA particularly offering significant promise as a potentially relevant, non-invasive biomarker of disease symptoms and burden. Our findings further highlight the impact of sexual dimorphism in HD pathophysiology
