From False Teeth to Exoskeletons: The Body and Materiality in William Gibson’s Burning Chrome
Considering texts from William Gibson’s short story collection, Burning Chrome, this essay seeks to establish that the material ontology of the body cannot be discounted in current ontological and existential debates, but rather, we might re-conceptualise pre-existing notions of human selfhood under the conditions of a technologically enhanced social aesthetic
Kestenberg Movement Profile and the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale – Second Edition for the Early Childhood Population: A Comparative Literature Review
Dance/movement therapy (DMT) and physical therapy (PT) are somatic-based interventions to improve our overall well-being. The difference between the two disciplines is that DMT is focused on the mind, body, and spiritual connection, and uses movement to foster the therapeutic healing process, whereas PT is used for rehabilitation or injury prevention. Both disciplines utilize movement assessment systems to analyze and measure physicality. In DMT, said movement assessment systems measure our preferential movement patterns, whereas, in PT, they assess physical deficits. This paper explores two movement assessment systems: the Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP) for DMT, and the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale – Second Edition (PDMS-2) for PT. The definition, application, validity, and reliability of the two assessment systems, as well as the international applications, are explored. The overall experience of exploring the two systems is compared in the discussion section. Findings show that the KMP is a complex movement analysis tool that has the potential of unlocking the hidden meanings behind human movement patterns and preferences; however, to reach a mainstream use, the KMP must become more accessible to non-somatic-based disciplines. The PDMS-2 is a comprehensive tool to assess motor deficits of the early childhood population. Although it is accessible to a wide range of administrators, the full PDMS-2 kit is costly and only available in English. The test was not designed for children with any sort of impairments, which limits the accessibility pool. Future considerations include making the KMP materials accessible to a wider range of professions and updating the PDMS-2 kit to include multiple language options, as well as being mindful of those with diverse needs
The Use of Probability in Quantum Mechanics to Calculate Measurement Outcomes
The concept of probability can help measure some of the possible outcomes of different experiments in the field of quantum mechanics. Those experiments include Thomas Young\u27s double slit experiment, the Schrödinger equation, the wave function, and the Born Rule, which all make use of probability to predict the placement of certain subatomic particles including photons of light, in the experiments. In this project, the manner in which probability does this is explored in depth
An Unrelenting Past: Historical Memory in Japan and South Korea
Every population maintains collective memories which provide meaning and identity for members (Langenbache, 2003). Elites have exerted influence on what is being remembered and the interpretation of the remembrances for specific objects, through the concept of historical memory. Wang (2012) has shown that authoritarian governments leverage historical memory to increase legitimacy. Similarly, Bernhard and Kubik (2014) have demonstrated that transitioning democracies also benefit from elite use of historical memory for consolidation. The lack of studies concerning consolidated democracies\u27 use of historical memory raises many questions, including whether consolidated democracies manipulate historical memory for the purpose of legitimacy? I contend that, similar to Wang\u27s findings, elites within consolidated democracies manipulate historical memory for the purpose of enhancing party legitimacy and that the concept of historical memory is a tool that continues to be utilized by elites after consolidation. Japan and South Korea constitute the case studies for this examination

With only 40 students enrolled in the performing arts program... small numbers don’t measure the success of the department. In fact, some believe it’s one of its biggest strengths
Mental Health in the School System: Providing Tools and Resources For Teachers
Mental health is an important part of our everyday life. For many school aged students, mental health issues are on the rise and our roles as occupational therapists are becoming more vital. Educators also have a vital role in the mental health of their students, however their is a gap between their knowledge of mental health practices and their comfort and confidence with implementing such practices.
This project aimed to bridge this gap for 5 educators in the Lake Stevens School District in Washington state. The project was comprised of a Mindfulness Toolkit that walked teachers through implementing a total of 6 different mindfulness activities with their classrooms.https://soar.usa.edu/otdcapstonespring2020/1015/thumbnail.jp
Utilization of Physical Therapy During Student Service Learning Project to Guatemala
Title: Utilization of Physical Therapy During Student Service Learning Project to Guatemala

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to collect demographic information for a descriptive analysis of patients accessing physical therapy services in rural Guatemala over the course of a week-long international service learning project by student physical therapists. The goal of the international service learning project was to provide skilled physical therapy to resource limited communities, experience the Guatemalan culture, and develop the students’ physical therapy skills.
Methods: Data was collected over a five-day period at 4 clinical locations in the Zacapa region of Guatemala. Sites included two outpatient physical therapy clinics, one mobile clinic, and one outpatient clinic associated with a public hospital. All clinical sites were operated by the non-profit organization Hearts in Motion. Demographics were collected for each patient regarding their age, gender, diagnosis, treatment type, and facility location. Data was gathered by five physical therapy students from the University of Puget Sound who participated in the service learning project.
Results: A total of 97 patients (43 males, 54 females; ranging in age from 4 months to 87 years) were evaluated and/or treated for a variety of orthopedic and neurological conditions. The most frequent orthopedic condition seen was lower extremity dysfunction, predominantly knee injuries (38% of all orthopedic condition were related to the knee), followed by low back pain (20% of orthopedic conditions). A diagnosis of knee pain could be attributed to tendon, ligament, muscular or meniscal injuries as well as osteoarthritis. Cerebrovascular accidents were the most commonly treated neurological condition (67%). The majority of patients (24%) were age 55-74, with distribution being fairly even across other age ranges.
Discussion: A brief English language literature review of Guatemalan health demographics yielded limited results, therefore it is difficult to determine to what degree the patient population observed in this student learning project is representative of the larger Guatemalan population who seek healthcare services. One 2012 study surveyed 1000 subjects in rural and urban Guatemala, and showed that the most prevalent musculoskeletal diseases were 1) osteoarthritis, 2) soft tissue rheumatism, 3) rheumatoid arthritis, 4) low back pain, and 5) arthralgias of unknown etiology.1 Soft tissue rheumatism is the aggregate of clinical problems related to tendons, ligaments, fascia and bursae, often presenting as a regional problem. These results are comparable to our observations as we observed a high prevalence of osteoarthritis, orthopedic soft tissue rheumatism, and low back pain. A lack of data regarding physical therapy utilization in the United States makes comparison between the two countries difficult.
