    X-Ray Tomography To Measure Size Of Fragments From Penetration Of High-Velocity Tungsten Rods

    Behind-armor debris that results from tungsten rods penetrating armor steel at 2 km/s was studied by analysis of recovered fragments. Fragment recovery was by means of particle board. Individual fragments were analyzed by x-ray tomography, which provides information for fragment identification, mass, shape, and penetration down to masses of a few milligrams. The experiments were complemented by AUTODYN and EPIC calculations. Fragments were steel or tungsten generated from the channel or from the breakout through the target rear surface. Channel fragment motions were well described by Tate theory. Breakout fragments had velocities from the projectile remnant to the channel velocity, apparently depending on where in the projectile a fragment originated.     Broken symmetry, excitons, gapless modes and topological excitations in Trilayer Quantum Hall systems

    We study the interlayer coherent incompressible phase in Trilayer Quantum Hall systems (TLQH) at total filling factor νT=1 \nu_{T}=1 from three approaches: Mutual Composite Fermion (MCF), Composite Boson (CB) and wavefunction approach. Just like in Bilayer Quantum Hall system, CB approach is superior than MCF approach in studying TLQH with broken symmetry. The Hall and Hall drag resistivities are found to be quantized at h/e2 h/e^{2} . Two neutral gapless modes with linear dispersion relations are identified and the ratio of the two velocities is close to 3 \sqrt{3} . The novel excitation spectra are classified into two classes: Charge neutral bosonic 2-body bound states and Charge ±1 \pm 1 fermionic 3-body bound states. In general, there are two 2-body Kosterlize-Thouless (KT) transition temperatures and one 3-body KT transition. The Charge ±1 \pm 1 3-body fermionic bound states may be the main dissipation source of transport measurements. The broken symmetry in terms of SU(3) SU(3) algebra is studied. The structure of excitons and their flowing patterns are given. The coupling between the two Goldstone modes may lead to the broadening in the zero-bias peak in the interlayer correlated tunnelings of the TLQH.     Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis risk and liver disease.

    Objective. Evaluate the incidence of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with liver disease in the peritransplant period. Materials and Methods. This IRB approved study retrospectively reviewed patients requiring transplantation for cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or both from 2003 to 2013. Records were reviewed identifying those having gadolinium enhanced MRI within 1 year of posttransplantation to document degree of liver disease, renal disease, and evidence for NSF. Results. Gadolinium-enhanced MRI was performed on 312 of 837 patients, including 23 with severe renal failure (GFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 cm(2)) and 289 with GFR > 30. Two of 23 patients with renal failure developed NSF compared to zero NSF cases in 289 patients with GFR > 30 (0/289; P < 0.003). High dose gadodiamide was used in the two NSF cases. There was no increased incidence of NSF with severe liver disease (1/71) compared to nonsevere liver disease (1/241; P = 0.412). Conclusion. Renal disease is a risk factor for NSF, but in our small sample our evidence suggests liver disease is not an additional risk factor, especially if a low-risk gadolinium agent is used. Noting that not all patients received high-risk gadolinium, a larger study focusing on patients receiving high-risk gadolinium is needed to further evaluate NSF risk in liver disease in the peritransplant period

    Carry-Over Effect in Forage Rotations on Newly Reclaimed Sandy Soil in Egypt

    This study was carried out to investigate the carry-over effect of a preceding crop on the productivity of the following crop in various rotations in newly reclaimed lands in Egypt. The productivity of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), soyabean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), maize (Zea mays L.) and pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) in summer season were much higher following berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) or lentil (Lens culinaris Medic) than after wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) or barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in both years of the study. Soyabean was the best summer season pre-crop for lentil and berseem, whereas peanut was best for barley. Maize was a suprisingly good pre-crop in this study. The carry-over effect from pearl millet was inferior to that of maize. Of the winter season crops berseem had the most positive effect on the four summer crops studied. Winter season crops had a decreasing positive effect in the order: berseem, lentil, barley and wheat. The data suggest that, cropping systems on newly reclaimed sandy soils should include legume crops (soyabean or peanut in summer, and berseem or lentil in winter) to maximise production of the following crop

    Forage production was studied on newly reclaimed sandy soil in Egypt trom perennial lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) and two annual crop rotations. The cropping systems were: A) lucerne, B) berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) in the winter followed by pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum R. Br. Emend. Stantz.) in the summer and C) triticale (XX Triticosecale Wittm.) (forage cut + grain harvest) in the winter followed by maize (Zea mays L.) (grain + stover) in the summer. Mean annual dry matter yields (t ha-1 ) were 20.65, 26.59 and 27.48 from A, B and C, respectively. However, lucerne provided the most even seasonal forage production

    Experimental Study and Theoretical Model Described Transition Regime Parameters and Hydrodynamic Parameters in a Gas-Liquid Dispersion Column

    Experimental study of total gas hold-up, bubble diameters and rise velocity ofthe swarm of bubbles, and regime transition point in dispersion column. Theexperimental runs were carried out in two perspex columns of 7.5 cm and 15 cm insidediameter. The present work investigated the effect of two system of two-liquid phase(air-water, and air-aqueous-n-propanol solution) in the range (0.05-0.7Wt%),superficial air velocity in the range (0.025-0.3 cm/s) and two air distributor plates of1.5 mm diameter holes (i.d.= 7.5 cm, holes=36 and free area=1.4%, and i.d.= 15 cmholes=121 and free area=1.2%). In this paper, a Krishna et al., 1999 model has beenimproved, and the combination of this improved model with derived drift flux modelhave been described the hydrodynamics of dispersion column operating inhomogeneous and heterogeneous flow regimes (i.e. transition regime parameterest ransand Utrans ). Photographic technique was used by taking three pictures in different view(different angle) of the dispersion column, to measure the hydrodynamic parameters.From the experimental data, it was found that the addition of a small amount of npentanolto distilled water and varying dispersion column diameter, is the main factorthat affects, the transition flow regime. Also the experimental results show that thevalues of total gas hold-up for air-aqueous n-pentanol solution system are greater thanthe values for air-water system, but the values of total gas hold-up decrease withdispersion column diameter for two systems.The experimental data show that the values of total gas hold-up and superficial airvelocity at transition regime varied with the weight percent of n-pentanol by fitting ofsecond order polynomial regressions for the two dispersion column diameters

    Studi Awal Desain Pabrik Pupuk Organik Granul dari Organic Waste

    Banyak pertanian di Indonesia yang masih bergantung pada penggunaan pupuk kimia. Padahal penggunaan pupuk kimia yang berlebihan dapat menyebabkan penurunan bahan organik tanah. Untuk menyeimbangkannnya saat ini petani juga sedang menggalakkan penggunaan pupuk organik. Sehingga membuat kebutuhan pupuk organik meningkat setiap tahunnya. Pendirian pabrik pupuk organik granul ini dapat memenuhi kebutuhan pupuk organik untuk petani. Prosess pembuatan pupuk organik granul terdiri dari pencampuran bahan baku, yakni sampah organik, kotoran sapi, kotoran domba, dan dipotong dengan rotary knife cutter. Tahap berikutnya adalah proses fermentasi, dengan penambahan bioactivator agar meningkatkan kandungan C-organik, phosphor, dan kalium. Selanjutnya adalah proses granulasi, pembesaran dari partikel dengan proses aglomerasi. Ukuran yang diharapkan pada proses granulasi ini adalah 2-4 mm sehingga produk undersize maupun oversize akan dikembalikan ke dalam granulator setelah melewati screener. Selanjutnya pupuk organik granul dikeringkan. Selanjutnya produk dipisahkan berdasarkan ukurannya lalu didinginkan di Rotary cooler. Setelah keluar dari Rotary Cooler suhu keluaran sekitar 40 oC dan masih mengandung kadar air sebesar 13,7%. Produk dari rotary cooler siap untuk di packaging dan masuk ke dalam pupuk organik granul storage. Dari analisa ekonomi didapatkan BEP sebesar 45% dengan POT sesudah pajak sebesar 4,8 tahun

    Composite bosons in bilayer nu = 1 system: An application of the Murthy-Shankar formalism

    We calculate the dispersion of the out-of-phase mode characteristic for the bilayer nu = 1 quantum Hall system applying the version of Chern-Simons theory of Murthy and Shankar that cures the unwanted bare electron mass dependence in the low-energy description of quantum Hall systems. The obtained value for the mode when d, distance between the layers, is zero is in a good agreement with the existing pseudospin picture of the system. For d nonzero but small we find that the mode is linearly dispersing and its velocity to a good approximation depends linearly on d. This is in agreement with the Hartree-Fock calculations of the pseudospin picture that predicts a linear dependance on d, and contrary to the naive Hartree predictions with dependence on the square-root of d. We set up a formalism that enables one to consider fluctuations around the found stationary point values. In addition we address the case of imbalanced layers in the Murthy-Shankar formalism.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figur
