    Smart wearable stress monitoring device for autistic children

    Vital sign monitoring is the process of recording human physiological signals in order to determine the mental stress level. High stress levels can prove tobe dangerous especially for certain individuals such as autistic children who are not able to express mounting levels of stress before it leads to a full anxiety attack. This paper presents the prototype design of a real-time embedded device that accurately measures heart rate and galvanic skin response (GSR) in a non-invasive and non-intrusive way which is then used by the intelligent decision making module that uses fuzzy logic to determine the stress level of the user. Such a device could be used with autistic children in order to give early warning of an impending anxiety attack and help adults to prevent it from happening. The prototype was designed using Arduino mega platform and tested with 35 clinical patients in three experimental settings targeted to induce low stress, medium stress and high stress response. Initial results have shown that the device is capable of detecting and displaying the various stress levels efficiently

    PTPN X Ajong Gayasan Plantation Jember is a company that cultivates Down Shade Tobacco ( TBN ) in a large scale. The processing in the warehouse processor or so-called warehouse zinc is a product processing opstapel from drying warehouse to be used as cigar tobacco. This processing is done to obtain a product in the form of a product ready for sale or export of which is carried by the female labor force. This study aims to determine: (1) the correlation between work training with the level of labor productivity in the warehouse processing woman PTPN X Kebun Ajong Gayasan Jember, (2) the standard time and the amount of labor required optimal effective tobacco sorting passage in accordance with the calculation of standard time, and (3) the degree of truth employment of women workers in the warehouse sorting processing section PTPN X Kebun Ajong Gayasan Jember. The research conducted in PTPN X Ajong Gayasan Plantation Jember by purposive method. The determination of sample using Slovin Methodwith samples acquired by 42 respondents from women workers of sorting tobacco section. The data used were primary and secondary data. Data analysis tools used were: (1) Rank Spearman Method; (2) Standart Time; (3) The Level of Jobs Truth (Descriptive Method). The survey results revealed that: (1) there is a relationship between training and productivity of female workers in processing warehouses PTPN X Kebun Ajong Gayasan Jember, (2) the measurement of working time women workers sorting tobacco section PTPN X Kebun Ajong Gayasan obtained Jember cycle time (on average) is 38.968 hours/week, rating factor is 1.12, the normal time is 43.644 hours/week, the value of allowance is 29.5% and the standard time is 56.518 hours/week. While the optimal amount of labor for the efficient sorting each group average is 40 peoples/group or 20 pairs/group, and (3) The level of employment of women workers truth sorting tobacco section PTPN X Kebun Ajong Jember Gayasan is ± 95 % for the first strand of tobacco leaves, on average only 1-2 pieces of leaf tobacco that is not in accordance with the assessment indicators

    Completion of the Long Duration Wear Test of the NASA HERMeS Hall Thruster

    The NASA Hall Effect Rocket with Magnetic Shielding (HERMeS) 12.5-kW Hall thruster has been the subject of extensive technology maturation by NASA GRC and JPL in preparation for development into a flight propulsion system. As part of this effort, a series of wear tests have been conducted to identify erosion phenomena and the accompanying failure modes as well as to validate service-life models for magnetically-shielded thrusters. This work presents a summary of the results obtained during the Long Duration Wear Test (LDWT), which was the third in this wear test series. The LDWT accumulated approximately 3,570 hours of operation and had the overall goal to identify and correct design or facility issues prior to the flight qualification campaign. Thruster performance, stability, and plume properties were invariant throughout the duration of the LDWT and consistent with measurements acquired during previous HERMeS performance and wear characterizations. Average erosion rates of a carbon-carbon composite pole cover were found to match those measured with graphite to within the empirical uncertainty while the previously observed time-dependence of pole cover erosion rates was linked to changes in pole cover roughness. Azimuthal variations in keeper wear rate were observed including deposition on one of the azimuthal-facing sides of the keeper mask. This strongly suggests the presence of an azimuthal component in the process driving keeper erosion

    Expansion of a novel population of NK cells with low ribosome expression in juvenile dermatomyositis

    Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is a pediatric autoimmune disease associated with characteristic rash and proximal muscle weakness. To gain insight into differential lymphocyte gene expression in JDM, peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 4 new-onset JDM patients and 4 healthy controls were sorted into highly enriched lymphocyte populations for RNAseq analysis. NK cells from JDM patients had substantially greater differentially expressed genes (273) than T (57) and B (33) cells. Upregulated genes were associated with the innate immune response and cell cycle, while downregulated genes were associated with decreased ribosomal RNA. Suppressed ribosomal RNA in JDM NK cells was validated by measuring transcription and phosphorylation levels. We confirmed a population of low ribosome expressing NK cells in healthy adults and children. This population of low ribosome NK cells was substantially expanded in 6 treatment-naïve JDM patients and was associated with decreased NK cell degranulation. The enrichment of this NK low ribosome population was completely abrogated in JDM patients with quiescent disease. Together, these data suggest NK cells are highly activated in new-onset JDM patients with an increased population of low ribosome expressing NK cells, which correlates with decreased NK cell function and resolved with control of active disease

    Assessing the effect of dynamics on the closed-loop protein-folding hypothesis

    The closed-loop (loop-n-lock) hypothesis of protein folding suggests that loops of about 25 residues, closed through interactions between the loop ends (locks), play an important role in protein structure. Coarse-grain elastic network simulations, and examination of loop lengths in a diverse set of proteins, each supports a bias towards loops of close to 25 residues in length between residues of high stability. Previous studies have established a correlation between total contact distance (TCD), a metric of sequence distances between contacting residues (cf. contact order), and the log-folding rate of a protein. In a set of 43 proteins, we identify an improved correlation ( r 2 = 0.76), when the metric is restricted to residues contacting the locks, compared to the equivalent result when all residues are considered ( r 2 = 0.65). This provides qualified support for the hypothesis, albeit with an increased emphasis upon the importance of a much larger set of residues surrounding the locks. Evidence of a similar-sized protein core/extended nucleus (with significant overlap) was obtained from TCD calculations in which residues were successively eliminated according to their hydrophobicity and connectivity, and from molecular dynamics simulations. Our results suggest that while folding is determined by a subset of residues that can be predicted by application of the closed-loop hypothesis, the original hypothesis is too simplistic; efficient protein folding is dependent on a considerably larger subset of residues than those involved in lock formation. </jats:p

Background: The coexistence of breast cancer and tuberculosis is very rare. This can create a dilemma in the diagnosis and treatment as there are no pathognomonic symptoms or signs to distinguish both diseases. Case presentation: A female patient was seen in the breast clinic for a right breast lump. Clinical examination and investigation confirmed cancer and tuberculosis of the right breast. She underwent right mastectomy and axillary clearance and received chemo and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, she died of wide spread metastases. Conclusion: The simultaneous occurrence of these two major illnesses in the breast can lead to many problems regarding diagnosis and treatment. Though rare, surgeons, pathologists and radiologists should be aware of such condition.     Lot-to-lot Variability of BN Grades for Space Electric Propulsion Applications

    Historically, several grades of hot pressed hexagonal boron nitride have been used for space electric propulsion applications. This study investigates the material properties of a selection of commercially available boron nitride grades including HP, M26, M, BNXX, and Shapal Hi-M. This work complements data which was presented at JANNAF 2018. The grades selected for this study are of interest because their available billet size is sufficient for space electric propulsion. This research investigates a range of material properties, tailored and focused on enhancing performance, reliability, and economics of electric propulsion thrusters. This work builds upon previous efforts by studying lot-to-lot variability of some of the properties of interest. Coefficient of friction, moisture absorption, moisture sensitivity, hot press directionality, flexural strength, compression strength, elastic modulus, thermal conductivity, thermal emissivity, thermal expansion, density, X-ray diffraction phase, microstructure, and chemical composition were all investigated across two lots of materials to help guide the selection of advanced ceramics.
