Research Objective This research is focused on the analysis of the role of front-line employees of hotels and information technologies in the innovation process in the hotel industry. The empirical work was carried out on three hotels operating in the city of Lubango (Angola). Methodology The research was based on the application of case studies in three hotels in the city of Lubango, in Angola. The results were obtained through an iterative process, based on analysis of available theory about innovation management in hotel services, on face-to-face interviews and on the reflection about the findings obtained. Results The research undertaken shows how innovation in hotel services is influenced by policies aimed at stimulating the participation and creativity of frontline employees through the lifelong learning and the use of information technologies. Theoretical implications The results are qualitative in nature, showing that innovation in the hotel industry, to a large extent, from the creativity and autonomy of frontline employees and the use of information technologies, this does not mean, however, that other factors, not addressed in the research, such as top management capabilities and strategic orientation. Originality The study seeks to explain clearly the relationship between innovation of hotel services and some of the key success factors in the innovation process

Hotel managers are an integral part of the hotel innovation process and the consequent achievement of superior performance. The existing literature suggests that strategic guidelines encourage the adoption of policies favorable to the innovation process. This investigation aims to investigate the impacts of customer orientation, competitor orientation, learning orientation, technology orientation and entrepreneurial orientation on innovation and hotel performance. Data from 69 hotels in four Angolan provinces were analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) approach and multi-group analysis. The results show that entrepreneurial learning and guidance have a positive impact on hotel innovation. As predicted, innovation has a positive impact on performance. According to the multigroup analysis, only the hotel category has a moderating effect on performance. The results suggest that hotels in developing countries can add value for both customers and shareholders, promoting new services and exploring new business opportunities. This is one of the few studies that researched the impact of strategic orientation on hotel innovation and financial performance in developing countries, namely in Angola.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Abstract

Background

To investigate non-patient irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) change to IBS and to determine factors predictive of the onset of IBS, individual biological factors, psychological factors, behavioral factors, and environmental factors were examined.

Methods

The subjects were 105 non-patient IBS (male = 59, female = 46, average age:21.49 ± 2.37), including 68 of the diarrhea-predominant type and 37 of the constipation-predominant type selected from 1,409 university and technical college students by use of a questionnaire based on the Rome II diagnostic criteria. The subjects were followed for three years, and various characteristics and IBS symptoms were serially observed (12 times). The IBS incidence rate was calculated.

Results

During the three years, 37 non-patient IBS (35.24%) changed to IBS: 28 diarrhea-predominant type and 9 constipation-predominant type. All IBS symptoms disappeared in 26 non-patient IBS subjects (24.76%). According to quantification method II (discriminant analysis), seven factors (stressor, two kinds of stress coping styles, cognitive appraisal, eating habits, sleeping time, and psychologically abuse) were adopted as a predictive model for IBS incidence and were confirmed as predictive of IBS.

Conclusion

The results of this research show that non-patient IBS is a changeable state that can change into IBS or persons without symptoms. Most of the non-patient IBS subjects who became asymptomatic had had symptoms for six months or less. Furthermore, the longer a non-patient IBS subject had symptoms, the higher the risk of a change to IBS became. The findings suggest the usefulness of identifying and approaching non-patient IBS as early as possible to prevent the onset of IBS. It must be noted that the persons surveyed in the present study had only the diarrhea-predominant and constipation-predominant types. Therefore, the findings of the present study are limited only these two types. Further study including the mixed type is needed.</p

    Rotation Curves of Spiral Galaxies

Rotation curves of spiral galaxies are the major tool for determining the distribution of mass in spiral galaxies. They provide fundamental information for understanding the dynamics, evolution and formation of spiral galaxies. We describe various methods to derive rotation curves, and review the results obtained. We discuss the basic characteristics of observed rotation curves in relation to various galaxy properties, such as Hubble type, structure, activity, and environment.Comment: 40 pages, 6 gif figures; Ann. Xist accumulation at the X leads to enrichment of specific chromatin marks, including PRC2-dependent H3K27me3 and SETD8-dependent H4K20me1. However, the dynamics of this process in relation to Xist RNA accumulation remains unknown as is the involvement of H4K20me1 in initiating gene silencing. To follow XCI dynamics in living cells, we developed a genetically encoded, H3K27me3-specific intracellular antibody or H3K27me3-mintbody. By combining live-cell imaging of H3K27me3, H4K20me1, the X chromosome and Xist RNA, with ChIP-seq analysis we uncover concurrent accumulation of both marks during XCI, albeit with distinct genomic distributions. Furthermore, using a Xist B and C repeat mutant, which still shows gene silencing on the X but not H3K27me3 deposition, we also find a complete lack of H4K20me1 enrichment. This demonstrates that H4K20me1 is dispensable for the initiation of gene silencing, although it may have a role in the chromatin compaction that characterises facultative heterochromatin. This work was supported by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (S.T.d.R), project grants PTDC/BIA‐ MOL/29320/2017 IC&DT (A. Necessary and sufficient conditions for path-independence of Girsanov transformation for infinite-dimensional stochastic evolution equations

    Get PDF
Based on a recent result on linking stochastic differential equations on ℝ d to (finite-dimensional) Burger-KPZ type nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations, we utilize Galerkin type finite-dimensional approximations to characterize the path-independence of the density process of Girsanov transformation for the infinite-dimensional stochastic evolution equations. Our result provides a link of infinite-dimensional semi-linear stochastic differential equations to infinite-dimensional Burgers-KPZ type nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations. As an application, this characterization result is applied to stochastic heat equation in one space dimension over the unit interval

Search for a Technicolor omega_T Particle in Events with a Photon and a b-quark Jet at CDF

If the Technicolor omega_T particle exists, a likely decay mode is omega_T -> gamma pi_T, followed by pi_T -> bb-bar, yielding the signature gamma bb-bar. We have searched 85 pb^-1 of data collected by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron for events with a photon and two jets, where one of the jets must contain a secondary vertex implying the presence of a b quark. We find no excess of events above standard model expectations. We express the result of an exclusion region in the M_omega_T - M_pi_T mass plane.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures. Observation of Hadronic W Decays in t-tbar Events with the Collider Detector at Fermilab

We observe hadronic W decays in t-tbar -> W (-> l nu) + >= 4 jet events using a 109 pb-1 data sample of p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). A peak in the dijet invariant mass distribution is obtained that is consistent with W decay and inconsistent with the background prediction by 3.3 standard deviations. From this peak we measure the W mass to be 77.2 +- 4.6 (stat+syst) GeV/c^2. This result demonstrates the presence of two W bosons in t-tbar candidates in the W (-> l nu) + >= 4 jet channel.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
