    Path Planning in 3D with Motion Primitives for Wind Energy-Harvesting Fixed-Wing Aircraft

    In this work, a set of motion primitives is defined for use in an energy-aware motion planning problem. The motion primitives are defined as sequences of control inputs to a simplified four-DOF dynamics model and are used to replace the traditional continuous control space used in many sampling-based motion planners. The primitives are implemented in a Stable Sparse Rapidly Exploring Random Tree (SST) motion planner and compared to an identical planner using a continuous control space. The planner using primitives was found to run 11.0\% faster but yielded solution paths that were on average worse with higher variance. Also, the solution path travel time is improved by about 50\%. Using motion primitives for sampling spaces in SST can effectively reduce the run time of the algorithm, although at the cost of solution quality.Comment: 4 page

Conventional laxatives have less adverse effects and are inexpensive, but often have limited efficacy. Recently developed enterokinetic agents and intestinal secretagogues have received attention owing to their high efficacies and low incidences of adverse events.     Comparative Interactomes of VRK1 and VRK3 with Their Distinct Roles in the Cell Cycle of Liver Cancer

    Vaccinia-related kinase 1 (VRK1) and VRK3 are members of the VRK family of serine/threonine kinases and are principally localized in the nucleus. Despite the crucial roles of VRK1/VRK3 in physiology and disease, the molecular and functional interactions of VRK1/VRK3 are poorly understood. Here, we identified over 200 unreported VRK1/VRK3-interacting candidate proteins by affinity purification and LC-MS/MS. The networks of VRK1 and VRK3 interactomes were found to be associated with important biological processes such as the cell cycle, DNA repair, chromatin assembly, and RNA processing. Interactions of interacting proteins with VRK1/VRK3 were confirmed by biochemical assays. We also found that phosphorylations of XRCC5 were regulated by both VRK1/VRK3, and that of CCNB1 was regulated by VRK3. In liver cancer cells and tissues, VRK1/VRK3 were highly upregulated and its depletion affected cell cycle progression in the different phases. VRK3 seemed to affect S phase progression and G2 or M phase entry and exit, whereas VRK1 affects G1/S transition in the liver cancer, which could be explained by different interacting candidate proteins. Thus, this study not only provides a resource for investigating the unidentified functions of VRK1/VRK3, but also an insight into the regulatory roles of VRK1/VRK3 in biological processes.11Ysciescopuskc

    Intraoperative Adjustment in Strabismus Surgery under Topical Anesthesia

    We evaluated the one-stage intraoperative adjustment strabismus surgery with adjustable suture under topical anesthesia. Medical records of the patients who had intraoperative adjustment surgery under topical anesthesia for horizontal or vertical strabismus in our hospital from March 1997 to March 2003 with follow-up of 6 months were analyzed retrospectively. Of the 71 patients, 48 patients had exotropia, 16 had esotropia, and 7 had hyper- or hypotropia. The overall success rates were 85.9% at 1 week, 83% at 1 month, 78.9% at 3 months, and 76.1% at 6 months after surgery. The procedure was not stopped in any patients, and no serious intra-operative or postoperative complications were noted.     Permeable characteristics of surface film deposited on LiMn2O4 positive electrode revealed by redox-active indicator

    Herein, the ferrocene redox indicator-based surface film characteristics of spinel lithium manganese oxide (LMO) were evaluated. The pre-cycling of spinel LMO generated a film on the LMO surface. The surface film deposited on LMO surface suppresses further electrolyte decomposition, while the penetration of approximately 0.7 nm-sized redox indicator is not prevented. The facile self-discharge of LMO and regeneration current from the ferrocenium molecule was observed from the redox indicator in a specifically designed four-electrode cell.     Association between vitamin D level and hematuria from a dipstick test in a large scale population based study: Korean National Health and nutrition examination survey

    Background Vitamin D deficiency is an important health concern because it is related to several comorbidities and mortality. However, its relationship with the risk of hematuria remains undetermined in the general population. In this study, we analyzed the association between vitamin D deficiency and hematuria. Methods We conducted cross-sectional analysis using data of participants from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2010โ€“2014. A total of 20,240 participants, aged โ‰ฅ18โ€‰years old, were analyzed. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels were measured in a central laboratory and hematuria was defined as โ‰ฅ1+ on a dipstick test. Multivariate logistic regression was conducted to calculate the odds ratio (OR) of hematuria risk according to serum 25(OH)D quartiles, after adjusting several covariates. Results A total 3144 (15.5%) participants had hematuria. The mean 25(OH)D level was 17.4โ€‰ยฑโ€‰6.2โ€‰ng/mL (median, 16.6โ€‰ng/mL (interquartile range, 13.1โ€“20.8โ€‰ng/mL)). The 3rd and 4th quartiles had a higher risk of hematuria than the 1st quartile, with adjusted ORs 1.26 (1.114โ€“1.415) and 1.40 (1.240โ€“1.572) in the 3rd and 4th quartiles, respectively. However, this relationship was only significant in women, not in men. When stratified analyses were conducted according to menopausal status, there was a significant increase of hematuria risk according to quartiles in postmenopausal but not in premenopausal women. Conclusion We found that vitamin D deficiency is correlated with hematuria in women, particularly after menopause. Further interventional studies are warranted to address whether correcting vitamin D deficiency can lower the risk of hematuria

    KMT-2016-BLG-1107: A New Hollywood-Planet Close/Wide Degeneracy

    We show that microlensing event KMT-2016-BLG-1107 displays a new type of degeneracy between wide-binary and close-binary Hollywood events in which a giant-star source envelops the planetary caustic. The planetary anomaly takes the form of a smooth, two-day "bump" far out on the falling wing of the light curve, which can be interpreted either as the source completely enveloping a minor-image caustic due to a close companion with mass ratio q=0.036q=0.036, or partially enveloping a major-image caustic due to a wide companion with q=0.004q=0.004. The best estimates of the companion masses are both in the planetary regime (3.3โˆ’1.8+3.5โ€‰Mjup3.3^{+3.5}_{-1.8}\,M_{\rm jup} and 0.090โˆ’0.037+0.096โ€‰Mjup0.090^{+0.096}_{-0.037}\,M_{\rm jup}) but differ by an even larger factor than the mass ratios due to different inferred host masses. We show that the two solutions can be distinguished by high-resolution imaging at first light on next-generation ("30m") telescopes.     KMT-2018-BLG-1990Lb: A Nearby Jovian Planet From A Low-Cadence Microlensing Field

    We report the discovery and characterization of KMT-2018-BLG-1990Lb, a Jovian planet (mp=0.57โˆ’0.25+0.79โ€‰MJ)(m_p=0.57_{-0.25}^{+0.79}\,M_J) orbiting a late M dwarf (M=0.14โˆ’0.06+0.20โ€‰MโŠ™)(M=0.14_{-0.06}^{+0.20}\,M_\odot), at a distance (D_L=1.23_{-0.43}^{+1.06}\,\kpc), and projected at 2.6ยฑ0.62.6\pm 0.6 times the snow line distance, i.e., a_{\rm snow}\equiv 2.7\,\au (M/M_\odot), This is the second Jovian planet discovered by KMTNet in its low cadence (0.4โ€‰hrโˆ’10.4\,{\rm hr}^{-1}) fields, demonstrating that this population will be well characterized based on survey-only microlensing data.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures, 4 table

    Spontaneous Oscillatory Rhythm in Retinal Activities of Two Retinal Degeneration (rd1 and rd10) Mice

    Previously, we reported that besides retinal ganglion cell (RGC) spike, there is ~ 10 Hz oscillatory rhythmic activity in local field potential (LFP) in retinal degeneration model, rd1 mice. The more recently identified rd10 mice have a later onset and slower rate of photoreceptor degeneration than the rd1 mice, providing more therapeutic potential. In this study, before adapting rd10 mice as a new animal model for our electrical stimulation study, we investigated electrical characteristics of rd10 mice. From the raw waveform of recording using 8ร—8 microelectrode array (MEA) from in vitro-whole mount retina, RGC spikes and LFP were isolated by using different filter setting. Fourier transform was performed for detection of frequency of bursting RGC spikes and oscillatory field potential (OFP). In rd1 mice, ~10 Hz rhythmic burst of spontaneous RGC spikes is always phase-locked with the OFP and this phase-locking property is preserved regardless of postnatal ages. However, in rd10 mice, there is a strong phase-locking tendency between the spectral peak of bursting RGC spikes (~5 Hz) and the first peak of OFP (~5 Hz) across different age groups. But this phase-locking property is not robust as in rd1 retina, but maintains for a few seconds. Since rd1 and rd10 retina show phase-locking property at different frequency (~10 Hz vs. ~5 Hz), we expect different response patterns to electrical stimulus between rd1 and rd10 retina. Therefore, to extract optimal stimulation parameters in rd10 retina, first we might define selection criteria for responding rd10 ganglion cells to electrical stimulus
