Three-dimensional wave-domain acoustic contrast control using a circular loudspeaker array

© 2019 Acoustical Society of America. This paper proposes a three-dimensional wave-domain acoustic contrast control method to reproduce a multizone sound field using a circular loudspeaker array. In this method, sound field analysis is based on spherical harmonic decomposition, and the loudspeaker weights are obtained by maximizing the acoustic energy contrast between the predefined bright zone and dark zone. Simulation results show that the proposed method provides good multizone separation performance over a large spatial region and requires lower-order spherical harmonics, resulting in a much lower number of microphones required to measure the acoustic transfer functions

Enhanced electron correlations in the new binary stannide PdSn4: a homologue of the Dirac nodal arc semimetal PtSn4

The advent of nodal-line semi-metals, i.e. systems in which the conduction and valence bands cross each other along a closed trajectory (line or loop) inside the Brillouin zone, has opened up a new arena for the exploration of topological condensed matter in which, due to a vanishing density of states near the Fermi level, electron correlation effects may also play an important role. In spite of this conceptual richness however, material realization of nodal-line (loop) fermions is rare, with PbTaSe2, ZrSiS and PtSn4 the only promising known candidates. Here we report the synthesis and physical properties of a new compound PdSn4 that is isostructural with PtSn4 yet possesses quasiparticles with significantly enhanced effective masses. In addition, PdSn4 displays an unusual polar angular magnetoresistance which at a certain field orientation, varies linearly with field up to 55 Tesla. Our study suggests that, in association with its homologue PtSn4 whose low-lying excitations were recently claimed to possess Dirac node arcs, PdSn4 may be a promising candidate in the search for novel topological states with enhanced correlation effects.Comment: 6 figures, 1 tabl

Using Generative Adversarial Networks to Break and Protect Text Captchas

Text-based CAPTCHAs remains a popular scheme for distinguishing between a legitimate human user and an automated program. This article presents a novel genetic text captcha solver based on the generative adversarial network. As a departure from prior text captcha solvers that require a labor-intensive and time-consuming process to construct, our scheme needs significantly fewer real captchas but yields better performance in solving captchas. Our approach works by first learning a synthesizer to automatically generate synthetic captchas to construct a base solver. It then improves and fine-tunes the base solver using a small number of labeled real captchas. As a result, our attack requires only a small set of manually labeled captchas, which reduces the cost of launching an attack on a captcha scheme. We evaluate our scheme by applying it to 33 captcha schemes, of which 11 are currently used by 32 of the top-50 popular websites. Experimental results demonstrate that our scheme significantly outperforms four prior captcha solvers and can solve captcha schemes where others fail. As a countermeasure, we propose to add imperceptible perturbations onto a captcha image. We demonstrate that our countermeasure can greatly reduce the success rate of the attack

A segmented rotor type switched reluctance machine for BSGs of hybrid electric vehicles: Concept, design and analysis

© 2017 IEEE. This paper proposes a novel 16/10 segmented rotor switched reluctance machine (SSRM) for belt-driven starter generators (BSGs) of hybrid electric vehicles. The stator of proposed SSRM consists of two types of stator poles: exciting pole and auxiliary pole, and the rotor of proposed SSRM is made up of a series of discrete segments. Firstly, the concept of the conventional SRM and proposed machine is presented. Secondly, the design rules of proposed SSRM are described. Finally, the finite element method (FEM) is employed to get the static characteristics of the proposed SSRM, including the magnetic flux distribution, magnetic flux density, inductance characteristic, torque characteristic and continuous torque. Result shows that the torque ripple of proposed SSRM is low
