Polynomial Tensor Sketch for Element-wise Function of Low-Rank Matrix
This paper studies how to sketch element-wise functions of low-rank matrices.
Formally, given low-rank matrix A = [Aij] and scalar non-linear function f, we
aim for finding an approximated low-rank representation of the (possibly
high-rank) matrix [f(Aij)]. To this end, we propose an efficient
sketching-based algorithm whose complexity is significantly lower than the
number of entries of A, i.e., it runs without accessing all entries of [f(Aij)]
explicitly. The main idea underlying our method is to combine a polynomial
approximation of f with the existing tensor sketch scheme for approximating
monomials of entries of A. To balance the errors of the two approximation
components in an optimal manner, we propose a novel regression formula to find
polynomial coefficients given A and f. In particular, we utilize a
coreset-based regression with a rigorous approximation guarantee. Finally, we
demonstrate the applicability and superiority of the proposed scheme under
various machine learning tasks
iCSDB: an integrated database of CRISPR screens.
High-throughput screening based on CRISPR-Cas9 libraries has become an attractive and powerful technique to identify target genes for functional studies. However, accessibility of public data is limited due to the lack of user-friendly utilities and up-to-date resources covering experiments from third parties. Here, we describe iCSDB, an integrated database of CRISPR screening experiments using human cell lines. We compiled two major sources of CRISPR-Cas9 screening: the DepMap portal and BioGRID ORCS. DepMap portal itself is an integrated database that includes three large-scale projects of CRISPR screening. We additionally aggregated CRISPR screens from BioGRID ORCS that is a collection of screening results from PubMed articles. Currently, iCSDB contains 1375 genome-wide screens across 976 human cell lines, covering 28 tissues and 70 cancer types. Importantly, the batch effects from different CRISPR libraries were removed and the screening scores were converted into a single metric to estimate the knockout efficiency. Clinical and molecular information were also integrated to help users to select cell lines of interest readily. Furthermore, we have implemented various interactive tools and viewers to facilitate users to choose, examine and compare the screen results both at the gene and guide RNA levels. iCSDB is available at https://www.kobic.re.kr/icsdb/
Plasma etching and surface characteristics depending on the crystallinity of the BaTiO3 thin film
Due to its high dielectric constant (κ), the BaTiO3 (BTO) thin film has significant potential as a next-generation dielectric material for metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). Hence, the evaluation of the BTO thin film etching process is required for such nanoscale device applications. Herein, the etching characteristics and surface properties are examined according to the crystallinity of the BTO thin film. The results demonstrate that the etching rate is low in the high-crystallinity thin film, and the surface residues are much lower than in the low-crystallinity thin film. In particular, the accelerated Cl radicals in the plasma are shown to penetrate more easily into the low-crystallinity thin film than the high-crystallinity thin film. After the etching process, the surface roughness is significantly lower in the high-crystallinity thin film than in the low-crystallinity thin film. This result is expected to provide useful information for the process design of high-performance electronic devices
