Molecular Recognition and Application in Industrial Field Based on Macrocyclic Host Thiacalixarene System
Thiacalixarene (TCA), which is a macrocyclic host molecule, where benzene rings are combined with sulfur atom. TCA has unique capability such as making an inclusion compound in the cavity by non-covalent interactions such as hydrophobic, hydrogen bonding, π-π, and van der Waals interactions. Such an interaction between intra molecule or inter molecules are making beautiful 3D architecture, which is able to create intelligent molecular such as nanoscale capsules and cage structures. Those interactions play an important role in the living systems, frequently occur in supramolecular assemblies. These assemblies have great potential for selective guest encapsulation, drug delivery, transport, and catalysis in many applications, since the interior spaces can be functionalized to achieve different desirable functions. In an addition, TCA has affinity for the metal ion because of due to sulfur, which seems to be preferable for infinite intermolecular interaction in the solid state because their bridging sulfur moieties have a high affinity toward a wide range of metal ions, moreover in even the application field, metal extraction capability in especially for the platinum group metals (PGM) is so large

Relevance of Some Damage Factors to Structures Damage in the 1995 Kobe Earthquake
The 1995 Kobe Earthquake (Hyogoken-nanbu Earthquake) caused a severe damage to various kinds of structures. As damage factors of these structures, the characteristics of seismic motion, distance from the earthquake source fault, ground conditions, liquefaction, and strength of structures can be considered. In this paper, paying attention to the distance from the earthquake source fault and ground conditions among them, the relevance to structures damage in wooden houses (on-ground structure) and water supply pipelines (under-ground structure) in Nishinomiya-City area was examined. As the results, the relationship between wooden houses damage and the distance from the fault can be approximately represented as a unique exponential function. In liquefied areas, however, the rate of completely collapsed wooden houses decreases 5 to 20% from the average value. This might be because the damping of earthquake motion brought the decrease of the damage rate. While, the relationship between water supply pipelines damage and the distance from the fault completely differs from the above-mentioned for wooden houses. A characteristic value Tg estimated from the distribution of N value at each location can be used for the ground classification in earthquake-proof design. The damage rate of water supply pipelines increases as increasing Tg , while that of wooden houses decreases as increasing Tg
Endocrinological Changes after Anamorelin Administration in Patients with Gastrointestinal Cancer
Changes in hormone levels in patients with cancer cachexia after anamorelin administration have not been fully investigated. This study aimed to determine how anamorelin affects the endocrine system in patients with gastrointestinal cancer and cachexia. We prospectively enrolled 13 patients and comprehensively investigated their body weight and levels of serum albumin, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and hormones before (week 0) and 3 and 12 weeks after anamorelin administration. The variables were evaluated at week 3 in 9 patients and at week 12 in 5 patients. At week 3, anamorelin administration resulted in body weight gain and increased the levels of growth hormone and HbA1c, as well as insulin-like growth factor-1 standard deviation scores (IGF-1 SD scores). At the same time, negative correlations were observed between ΔIGF-1 SD score and Δthyroidstimulating hormone (TSH) and between ΔIGF-1 SD score and Δfree testosterone. ΔBody weight and ΔIGF-1 SD score correlated positively at week 12. These results suggest that TSH and free testosterone levels can be affected 3 weeks after anamorelin administration; however, those variables tend to return to a state of equilibrium, and anabolic effects of anamorelin appear in long-term (≥ 12 weeks) users
Characterization of Gastric Tissue-Resident T Cells in Autoimmune and Helicobacter pylori-Associated Gastritis
Data regarding the in-depth surface marker profiles of gastric tissue-resident lymphocytes in autoimmune and Helicobacter pylori-associated gastritis are lacking. In this study, we investigated potential differences in lymphocyte composition between these profiles. We enrolled patients with autoimmune (n = 14), active (current infection of H. pylori in the stomach; n = 10), and inactive gastritis (post-eradication of H. pylori; n = 20). Lymphocytes were isolated from the greater curvature of the stomach and lesser curvature of the body and analyzed using flow cytometry. The CD8(+)/CD3(+) and CD4(+)/CD3(+) ratios differed between the samples. Body CD4(+)/antrum CD4(+), which is calculated by dividing the CD4(+)/CD3(+) ratio in the body by that in the antrum, was significantly higher in autoimmune gastritis (3.54 +/- 3.13) than in active (1.47 +/- 0.41) and inactive gastritis (1.42 +/- 0.77). Antrum CD8(+)/CD4(+) in autoimmune gastritis (7.86 +/- 7.23) was also higher than that in active (1.49 +/- 0.58) and inactive gastritis (2.84 +/- 2.17). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of antrum CD8(+)/CD4(+) was 0.842, and the corresponding optimal cutoff point was 4.0, with a sensitivity of 71.4% and a specificity of 93.3%. We propose that an antrum CD8(+)/CD4(+) ratio > 4.0 is a potential diagnostic marker for autoimmune gastritis
Cadmium-coordinated supramolecule suppresses tumor growth of T-cell leukemia in mice
Cadmium is a toxic pollutant with occupational and environmental significance, due to its diverse toxic effects. Supramolecules that conjugate and decontaminate toxic metals have potential for use in treatment of cadmium intoxication. In addition, metal-coordinating ability has been postulated to contribute to the cytotoxic effects of anti-tumor agents such as cisplatin or bleomycin. Thiacalixarenes, cyclic oligomers of p-alkylphenol bridged by sulfur atoms, are supramolecules known to have potent coordinating ability to metal ions. In this study, we show that cadmium-coordinated thiacalix[4]arene tetrasulfate (TC4ATS-Cd) exhibits an anti-proliferative effect against T-cell leukemia cells. Cadmium exhibited cytotoxicity with IC50 values ranging from 36 to 129M against epithelia-derived cancer cell lines, while TC4ATS-Cd elicited no significant cytotoxicity (IC50>947M). However, a number of T-cell leukemia cell lines exhibited marked sensitivity to TC4ATS-Cd. In Jurkat cells, toxicity of TC4ATS-Cd occurred with an IC50 of 6.9M, which is comparable to that of 6.5M observed for cadmium alone. TC4ATS-Cd induced apoptotic cell death through activation of caspase-3 in Jurkat cells. In a xenograft model, TC4ATS-Cd (13mg/kg) treatment significantly suppressed the tumor growth of Jurkat cells in mice. In addition, TC4ATS-Cd-treated mice exhibited significantly less cadmium accumulation in liver and kidney compared to equimolar cadmium-treated mice. These results suggest that cadmium-coordinated supramolecules may have therapeutic potential for treatment of T-cell leukemia
Free-Floating planet Mass Function from MOA-II 9-year survey towards the Galactic Bulge
We present the first measurement of the mass function of free-floating
planets (FFP) or very wide orbit planets down to an Earth mass, from the MOA-II
microlensing survey in 2006-2014. Six events are likely to be due to planets
with Einstein radius crossing times, days, and the shortest has
days and an angular Einstein radius of as. We measure the detection efficiency depending on both
and with image level simulations for the first
time. These short events are well modeled by a power-law mass function,
dexstar with for . This implies a total of FFP or very wide orbit
planets of mass per star, with a total mass of
per star. The number of FFPs is
times the number of planets in wide orbits (beyond the snow line), while the
total masses are of the same order. This suggests that the FFPs have been
ejected from bound planetary systems that may have had an initial mass function
with a power-law index of , which would imply a total mass of
star. This model predicts that Roman Space
Telescope will detect FFPs with masses down to that of
Mars (including with ). The
Sumi(2011) large Jupiter-mass FFP population is excluded.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in A
