A high flux source of cold strontium atoms

We describe an experimental apparatus capable of achieving a high loading rate of strontium atoms in a magneto-optical trap operating in a high vacuum environment. A key innovation of this setup is a two dimensional magneto-optical trap deflector located after a Zeeman slower. We find a loading rate of 6x10^9/s whereas the lifetime of the magnetically trapped atoms in the 3P2 state is 54s.Comment: 12 pages, 16 figure

ISSR Analysis of Variability of Cultivated Form and Varieties of Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) from Azerbaijan

    Get PDF
The article presents the results of a study of genetic polymorphism for the first time carried out on pomegranate varieties and forms of Azerbaijan origin using molecular markers. In total, 102 PCR fragments were identified, of which 80 were polymorphic. The high level of polymorphism (75.5%) and the rich genetic diversity were identified among the studied pomegranate collection. As a result of data analysis and on the basis of the values of the basic parameters (PIC, EMR, MI, RP, MRP) determining informativeness of markers, all 14 ISSR primers were suitable for genotyping pomegranate accessions. The most effective markers (UBC808, UBC811, UBC834, and UBC840) were identified among the set of primers tested. A dendrogram was constructed on the basis of the data obtained, which made it possible to group genotypes into 16 major clusters. The genetic similarity index ranged from 0.032 to 0.94. The study of the genetic relationship of different pomegranate varieties confirms the effectiveness of the ISSR method, which makes it possible to determine the level of genetic diversity, as well as to establish the relationship among the studied pomegranate accessions

Datalog-Based program analysis with BES and RWL

This paper describes two techniques for Datalog query evaluation and their application to object-oriented program analysis. The first technique transforms Datalog programs into an implicit Boolean Equation System (Bes) that can then be solved by using linear-time complexity algorithms that are available in existing, general purpose verification toolboxes such as Cadp. In order to improve scalability and to enable analyses involving advanced meta-programming features, we develop a second methodology that transforms Datalog programs into rewriting logic (Rwl) theories. This method takes advantage of the preeminent features and facilities that are available within the high-performance system Maude, which provides a very efficient implementation of Rwl. We provide evidence of the practicality of both approaches by reporting on some experiments with a number of real-world Datalog-based analyses. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.This work has been partially supported by the eu(feder), the Spanish mec/micinn under grants tin2007-68093-C02 and tin2010-21062-C02-02, and the Generalitat Valenciana under grant Emergentes gv/2009/024. Single-Frame Attitude Determination Methods for Nanosatellites

    No full text
Single-frame methods of determining the attitude of a nanosatellite are compared in this study. The methods selected for comparison are: Single Value Decomposition (SVD), q method, Quaternion ESTimator (QUEST), Fast Optimal Attitude Matrix (FOAM) − all solving optimally the Wahba’s problem, and the algebraic method using only two vector measurements. For proper comparison, two sensors are chosen for the vector observations on-board: magnetometer and Sun sensors. Covariance results obtained as a result of using those methods have a critical importance for a non-traditional attitude estimation approach; therefore, the variance calculations are also presented. The examined methods are compared with respect to their root mean square (RMS) error and variance results. Also, some recommendations are given

The water status of almond was monitored during the vegetational season and autumn-winter period. The effect of autumn-winter water-charging irrigation on the development of almond and its productivity was studied. The highest level of productivity has been received at use of three vegetative and two water-charging irrigation in November and December

Evaluation of genetic diversity using SSR markers and link with drought response of Azerbaijani durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) genotypes

    No full text
Genetic diversity of 45 genotypes were shown in the list of genotypes Azerbaijani durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) genotypes were screened using simple sequence repeats (SSRs). These accessions were collected from various bioclimatic regions of Azerbaijan. Out of the used 22 primers, 13 primers showed polymorphism and were selected for the analyses. Among the genotypes under study, 31 alleles were detected. The highest number of alleles was detected in locus gwm 335 (on chromosome 5B) and on locus gwm 445 (on chromosome 2A) with 5 and 4 alleles, respectively. The lowest number of alleles was found in locus gwm 617 with only 1 allele. For A, B, and D genomes, the total number of alleles detected was 14, 15, and 2, respectively. PIC value between studied SSR markers was 0.912 and this result shows high genetic diversity between Azerbaijani durum wheat genotypes. Therefore, these primers can be recommended for studying the genetic diversity of Azerbaijani durum wheat accessions. The genetic structure of the genotypes was analyzed and the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) dendrogram revealed five major clusters using Nei genetic distance index. The results revealed that SSR markers can efficiently evaluate genetic variation in the wheat samples. Based on the previous characterization of the drought response of these genotypes, links could be established between the SSR markers and drought tolerance. If some of the SSR markers are confirmed for their association with drought tolerance, then, they can be used as markers for the identification of drought-tolerant cultivars needed to enhance wheat productivity for farmers dealing with harsh conditions
