    The Hush Cryptosystem

In this paper we describe a new cryptosystem we call "The Hush Cryptosystem" for hiding encrypted data in innocent Arabic sentences. The main purpose of this cryptosystem is to fool observer-supporting software into thinking that the encrypted data is not encrypted at all. We employ a modified Word Substitution Method known as the Grammatical Substitution Method in our cryptosystem. We also make use of Hidden Markov Models. We test our cryptosystem using a computer program written in the Java Programming Language. Finally, we test the output of our cryptosystem using statistical tests.Comment: 7 pages. 5 figures. A Precise Information Flow Measure from Imprecise Probabilities

Dempster-Shafer theory of imprecise probabilities has proved useful to incorporate both nonspecificity and conflict uncertainties in an inference mechanism. The traditional Bayesian approach cannot differentiate between the two, and is unable to handle non-specific, ambiguous, and conflicting information without making strong assumptions. This paper presents a generalization of a recent Bayesian-based method of quantifying information flow in Dempster-Shafer theory. The generalization concretely enhances the original method removing all its weaknesses that are highlighted in this paper. In so many words, our generalized method can handle any number of secret inputs to a program, it enables the capturing of an attacker's beliefs in all kinds of sets (singleton or not), and it supports a new and precise quantitative information flow measure whose reported flow results are plausible in that they are bounded by the size of a program's secret input, and can be easily associated with the exhaustive search effort needed to uncover a program's secret information, unlike the results reported by the original metric.Comment: 10 pages. Design and Operation of Stationary Distributed Battery Micro-storage Systems

    Get PDF
Due to some technical and environmental constraints, expanding the current electric power generation and transmission system is being challenged by even increasing the deployment of distributed renewable generation and storage systems. Energy storage can be used to store energy from utility during low-demand (off-peak) hours and deliver this energy back to the utility during high-demand (on-peak) hours. Furthermore, energy storage can be used with renewable sources to overcome some of their limitations such as their strong dependence on the weather conditions, which cannot be perfectly predicted, and their unmatched or out-of-synchronization generation peaks with the demand peaks. Generally, energy storage enhances the performance of distributed renewable sources and increases the efficiency of the entire power system. Moreover, energy storage allows for leveling the load, shaving peak demands, and furthermore, transacting power with the utility grid. This research proposes an energy management system (EMS) to manage the operation of distributed grid-tied battery micro-storage systems for stationary applications when operated with and without renewable sources. The term micro refers to the capacity of the energy storage compared to the grid capacity. The proposed management system employs four dynamic models; economic model, battery model, and load and weather forecasting models. These models, which are the main contribution of this research, are used in order to optimally control the operation of the micro-storage system (MSS) to maximize the economic return for the end-user when operated in an electricity spot market system. Chapter 1 presents an introduction to the drawbacks of the current power system, the role of energy storage in deregulated electricity markets, limitations of renewable sources, ways for participating in spot electricity markets, and an outline of the main contributions in this dissertation. In Chapter 2, some hardware design considerations for distributed micro-storage systems as well as some economic analyses are presented. Chapters 3 and 4 propose a battery management system (BMS) that handles three main functions: battery charging, state-of-charge (SOC) estimation and state-of-health (SOH) estimation. Chapter 5 proposes load and weather forecasting models using artificial neural networks (ANNs) to develop an energy management strategy to control the operation of the MSS in a spot market system when incorporated with other renewable energy sources. Finally, conclusions and future work are presented in Chapter 6

The Impact of Banking Services Marketing Mix on Customer Loyalty Case Study of Private Banks in Kurdistan - Iraq

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to investigate the elements of banking marketing mix in private banks in Kurdistan - Iraq, and the role of these factors in attracting customers from the market and encourage them to deal with these banks. Since the elements of marketing mix are considered as the most important factors that influence the customer loyalty, which requires the bank management to have an attention on the marketing of bank services in well-organized manner. Therefore, according to our questionnaire process and data analysis, the results indicate that customer loyalty correlates positively with product quality, Price, and place; while promotion, people, process of operations and physical environment has no correlation with customer loyalty

A Web-Based University Courses Syllabi Generator

    Get PDF
To improve university students learning experience and in the quest for ABET accreditation, it is crucial to have clear and consistent syllabi encompassing the course outcomes and their relationship to the overall program outcomes for all offered courses.  This paper aims to present the automation of syllabi for engineering programs by introducing a web-based software application for course syllabus generation. The application has been developed using the best practices in educational theories and is fully aligned with ABET guidelines for program accreditation.   It streamlines the process of writing syllabi and ensures compliance and conformity for all courses offered within a program.  In addition, such automation reduces human errors, improves the student learning experience, reduces paper and printing costs and provides an environmental friendly alternative. The Impact of Human Resources on the Banking Sector Performance in Syria

    Get PDF
This research deals with the relationship between some of the general characteristics of human resources in the Syrian banking sector, such as the level of education, training and experience, and the operational financial efficiency of this sector. The data for the human resources is collected from the employees of several private banks in Syria, then testing the relationship with the financial data derived from the annual financial statements published by those banks for year 2019, the same year of data collection. This study is the cornerstone of complementary studies, which is more specialized in the field of human resources and financial performance. The study concluded that there is no effect of the human resources efficiency on financial performance for year 2019, which raises the urgent need of conducting similar research for a range of years and more comprehensive study on the factors that effect financial performance whether in the Syrian market or other markets as a part of behavior analysis on financial market

An Improved Earned Value Analysis Tool for Mitigating Progress Risks in Long Duration Projects

    Get PDF
As a risk control tool, earned value analysis is crucial for identifying risky trends in the budget or schedule of a project. This tool relies on earned value management, a method for calculating cost and schedule variances. However, this method does not take into account the time value of money. This in itself is a threat that could lead to misleading data and eventually wrong decisions. This paper explores the risk management process, the earned value management method, and proposes a methodology that compliments the earned value management method with net present value calculations. This will allow project managers to take sound decisions based on more accurate information
