Microscopic insights into CO₂-shale oil miscibility via interaction energy coupled with pore confinement: Implications for CO₂-enhanced oil recovery

    Get PDF
As CO₂ injection can enhance the efficiency of shale oil extraction and reduce CO₂ emissions, it has been utilized widely in the development of shale oil resources. Minimum miscible pressure is an important parameter describing the miscibility of CO₂ and shale oil, which is of great importance for determination of CO₂ injection strategy. However, due to the unclear phase boundary caused by the confinement effect in shale nanopores, it is difficult to determine the minimum miscible pressure of CO₂ and shale oil. In this study, a new minimum miscible pressure estimation method is constructed, that is suitable for nanopores based on the significant co-evolution of pore wall adsorption and confined-bulk phase interactions. This method can mitigate the limitations of traditional minimum miscible pressure calculation methods relying on fluid interfaces. Furthermore, the confinement effects on the miscibility process are analyzed using a theoretical method and molecular dynamics simulation on the microscopic scale. The results demonstrate that the minimum miscible pressure of CO₂ and shale oil initially decreases as the pore size decreases. When the pore size decreases to a certain extent, the minimum miscible pressure increases with the thickness of the adsorbent layer rising and the CO₂ diffusion coefficient decreasing. Temperature elevation raises the minimum miscible pressure as it intensifies molecular thermal motion, weakens fluid adsorption, and reduces interaction energy, which are not conducive to miscibility. This study can provide an essential basis for the optimization of CO₂ injection pressure in shale oil reservoir development.Document Type: Original articleCited as: Yu, X., Dong, H., Li, Y., Liu, C., Zhang, L., Chen, Z. Optimization of Worker Scheduling at Logistics Depots Using Genetic Algorithms and Simulated Annealing

This paper addresses the optimization of scheduling for workers at a logistics depot using a combination of genetic algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm. The efficient scheduling of permanent and temporary workers is crucial for optimizing the efficiency of the logistics depot while minimizing labor usage. The study begins by establishing a 0-1 integer linear programming model, with decision variables determining the scheduling of permanent and temporary workers for each time slot on a given day. The objective function aims to minimize person-days, while constraints ensure fulfillment of hourly labor requirements, limit workers to one time slot per day, cap consecutive working days for permanent workers, and maintain non-negativity and integer constraints. The model is then solved using genetic algorithms and simulated annealing. Results indicate that, for this problem, genetic algorithms outperform simulated annealing in terms of solution quality. The optimal solution reveals a minimum of 29857 person-days

Visual-tactile Fusion for Transparent Object Grasping in Complex Backgrounds

The accurate detection and grasping of transparent objects are challenging but of significance to robots. Here, a visual-tactile fusion framework for transparent object grasping under complex backgrounds and variant light conditions is proposed, including the grasping position detection, tactile calibration, and visual-tactile fusion based classification. First, a multi-scene synthetic grasping dataset generation method with a Gaussian distribution based data annotation is proposed. Besides, a novel grasping network named TGCNN is proposed for grasping position detection, showing good results in both synthetic and real scenes. In tactile calibration, inspired by human grasping, a fully convolutional network based tactile feature extraction method and a central location based adaptive grasping strategy are designed, improving the success rate by 36.7% compared to direct grasping. Furthermore, a visual-tactile fusion method is proposed for transparent objects classification, which improves the classification accuracy by 34%. The proposed framework synergizes the advantages of vision and touch, and greatly improves the grasping efficiency of transparent objects.Comment: Publishe

DualSPHysics simulations of various wave-structure interactions

With rapid advancement in ocean engineering, the accurate simulation of interactions between the waves and the structure becomes crucial for optimizing the design process and enhancing the safety and performance of such structures. The present study carries out a series of numerical simulations on wave-structure interactions under three different scenarios using the mesh-free Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) approach, including a fixed, freely floating and moored structure. An open-source code, based on the Dual Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Physics (DualSPHysics), is used as the implementation tool. To evaluate the performance of SPH together with the coupled mooring line model, the study compares the computed wave force, free surface elevation, float motion, and mooring forces with the documented data. For the mooring structure case, the RMSE error in computed wave surface elevation is 0.0056 m, 0.001 m in float motion and 0.72° in pitch angle, and 3.1 N in mooring force. The linear correlation coefficients were found to be around 1.0 while the amplitude errors of most physical quantities were in the range of 0.9 - 1.0. Besides, a comprehensive evaluation of key parameters in the model has been carried out to complement the limitations of previous model studies

CMoralEval: A Moral Evaluation Benchmark for Chinese Large Language Models

What a large language model (LLM) would respond in ethically relevant context? In this paper, we curate a large benchmark CMoralEval for morality evaluation of Chinese LLMs. The data sources of CMoralEval are two-fold: 1) a Chinese TV program discussing Chinese moral norms with stories from the society and 2) a collection of Chinese moral anomies from various newspapers and academic papers on morality. With these sources, we aim to create a moral evaluation dataset characterized by diversity and authenticity. We develop a morality taxonomy and a set of fundamental moral principles that are not only rooted in traditional Chinese culture but also consistent with contemporary societal norms. To facilitate efficient construction and annotation of instances in CMoralEval, we establish a platform with AI-assisted instance generation to streamline the annotation process. These help us curate CMoralEval that encompasses both explicit moral scenarios (14,964 instances) and moral dilemma scenarios (15,424 instances), each with instances from different data sources. We conduct extensive experiments with CMoralEval to examine a variety of Chinese LLMs. Experiment results demonstrate that CMoralEval is a challenging benchmark for Chinese LLMs. The dataset is publicly available at \url{https://github.com/tjunlp-lab/CMoralEval}.Accepted by ACL 2024 (Findings

Estrogen regulates Hippo signaling via GPER in breast cancer

    Get PDF
The G protein–coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) mediates both the genomic and nongenomic effects of estrogen and has been implicated in breast cancer development. Here, we compared GPER expression in cancerous tissue and adjacent normal tissue in patients with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast and determined that GPER is highly upregulated in cancerous cells. Additionally, our studies revealed that GPER stimulation activates yes-associated protein 1 (YAP) and transcriptional coactivator with a PDZ-binding domain (TAZ), 2 homologous transcription coactivators and key effectors of the Hippo tumor suppressor pathway, via the Gαq-11, PLCβ/PKC, and Rho/ROCK signaling pathways. TAZ was required for GPER-induced gene transcription, breast cancer cell proliferation and migration, and tumor growth. Moreover, TAZ expression positively correlated with GPER expression in human IDC specimens. Together, our results suggest that the Hippo/YAP/TAZ pathway is a key downstream signaling branch of GPER and plays a critical role in breast tumorigenesis

Electric dipole moments and the search for new physics

    Get PDF
Static electric dipole moments of nondegenerate systems probe mass scales for physics beyond the Standard Model well beyond those reached directly at high energy colliders. Discrimination between different physics models, however, requires complementary searches in atomic-molecular-and-optical, nuclear and particle physics. In this report, we discuss the current status and prospects in the near future for a compelling suite of such experiments, along with developments needed in the encompassing theoretical framework.Comment: Contribution to Snowmass 2021; updated with community edits and endorsement
