    Multi-type Resource Allocation with Partial Preferences

    We propose multi-type probabilistic serial (MPS) and multi-type random priority (MRP) as extensions of the well known PS and RP mechanisms to the multi-type resource allocation problem (MTRA) with partial preferences. In our setting, there are multiple types of divisible items, and a group of agents who have partial order preferences over bundles consisting of one item of each type. We show that for the unrestricted domain of partial order preferences, no mechanism satisfies both sd-efficiency and sd-envy-freeness. Notwithstanding this impossibility result, our main message is positive: When agents' preferences are represented by acyclic CP-nets, MPS satisfies sd-efficiency, sd-envy-freeness, ordinal fairness, and upper invariance, while MRP satisfies ex-post-efficiency, sd-strategy-proofness, and upper invariance, recovering the properties of PS and RP

    A dynamic scheduling method with Conv-Dueling and generalized representation based on reinforcement learning

    In modern industrial manufacturing, there are uncertain dynamic disturbances between processing machines and jobs which will disrupt the original production plan. This research focuses on dynamic multi-objective flexible scheduling problems such as the multi-constraint relationship among machines, jobs, and uncertain disturbance events. The possible disturbance events include job insertion, machine breakdown, and processing time change. The paper proposes a conv-dueling network model, a multidimensional state representation of the job processing information, and multiple scheduling objectives for minimizing makespan and delay time, while maximizing the completion punctuality rate. We design a multidimensional state space that includes job and machine processing information, an efficient and complete intelligent agent scheduling action space, and a compound scheduling reward function that combines the main task and the branch task. The unsupervised training of the network model utilizes the dueling-double-deep Q-network (D3QN) algorithm. Finally, based on the multi-constraint and multi-disturbance production environment information, the multidimensional state representation matrix of the job is used as input and the optimal scheduling rules are output after the feature extraction of the conv-dueling network model and decision making. This study carries out simulation experiments on 50 test cases. The results show the proposed conv-dueling network model can quickly converge for DQN, DDQN, and D3QN algorithms, and has good stability and universality. The experimental results indicate that the scheduling algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms DQN, DDQN, and single scheduling algorithms in all three scheduling objectives. It also demonstrates high robustness and excellent comprehensive scheduling performance

    Prevalence of somatic-mental multimorbidity and its prospective association with disability among older adults in China

    We aimed to identify prevalent somatic-mental multimorbidity (SMM) and examine its prospective association with disability among a nationally representative sample. A total of 6728 participants aged 60 years and older in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study were included. A total of 14 somatic or mental conditions were assessed in 2013. SMM was defined as any combination of two or more conditions in which at least one condition was somatic and at least one condition was mental. Disability risk was measured using the combined Activities of Daily Living (ADL)-Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) index (range 0–11; higher index indicates higher disability) in 2013 and 2015. Overall, the prevalence of SMM was 35.7% (95% confidence interval (CI): 34.1%-37.3%) in 2013. After adjustment for sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyles and baseline ADL-IADL index, over a maximum follow-up period of 2 years, SMM was associated with a 2.61 (95% CI: 2.12-3.22)-fold increase in ADL-IADL disability risk compared with that of healthy participants.     Genetically modified adenoviral vector with the protein transduction domain of Tat improves gene transfer to CAR-deficient cells

    The transduction efficiency of Ad (adenovirus) depends, to some extent, on the expression level of CAR (coxsackievirus and Ad receptor) of a target cell. The low level of CAR on the cell surface is a potential barrier to efficient gene transfer. To overcome this problem, PTD.AdeGFP (where eGFP is enhanced green fluorescent protein) was constructed by modifying the HI loop of Ad5 (Ad type 5) fibre with the Tat (trans-activating) PTD (protein transduction domain) derived from HIV. The present study showed that PTD.AdeGFP significantly improved gene transfer to multiple cell types deficient in expression of CAR. The improvement in gene transfer was not the result of charge-directed binding between the virus and the cell surface. Although PTD.AdeGFP formed aggregates, it infected target cells in a manner different from AdeGFP aggregates precipitated by calcium phosphate. In addition, PTD.AdeGFP was able to transduce target cells in a dynamin-independent pathway. The results provide some new clues as to how PTD.AdeGFP infects target cells. This new vector would be valuable in gene-function analysis and for gene therapy in cancer

    Molecular analysis of the diversity of vaginal microbiota associated with bacterial vaginosis

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an ecological disorder of the vaginal microbiota that affects millions of women annually, and is associated with numerous adverse health outcomes including pre-term birth and the acquisition of sexually transmitted infections. However, little is known about the overall structure and composition of vaginal microbial communities; most of the earlier studies focused on predominant vaginal bacteria in the process of BV. In the present study, the diversity and richness of vaginal microbiota in 50 BV positive and 50 healthy women from China were investigated using culture-independent PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and barcoded 454 pyrosequencing methods, and validated by quantitative PCR.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Our data demonstrated that there was a profound shift in the absolute and relative abundances of bacterial species present in the vagina when comparing populations associated with healthy and diseased conditions. In spite of significant interpersonal variations, the diversity of vaginal microbiota in the two groups could be clearly divided into two clusters. A total of 246,359 high quality pyrosequencing reads was obtained for evaluating bacterial diversity and 24,298 unique sequences represented all phylotypes. The most predominant phyla of bacteria identified in the vagina belonged to <it>Firmicutes</it>, <it>Bacteroidetes</it>, <it>Actinobacteria </it>and <it>Fusobacteria</it>. The higher number of phylotypes in BV positive women over healthy is consistent with the results of previous studies and a large number of low-abundance taxa which were missed in previous studies were revealed. Although no single bacterium could be identified as a specific marker for healthy over diseased conditions, three phyla - <it>Bacteroidetes</it>, <it>Actinobacteria </it>and <it>Fusobacteria</it>, and eight genera including <it>Gardnerella</it>, <it>Atopobium</it>, <it>Megasphaera</it>, <it>Eggerthella</it>, <it>Aerococcus</it>, <it>Leptotrichia</it>/<it>Sneathia</it>, <it>Prevotella </it>and <it>Papillibacter </it>were strongly associated with BV (<it>p </it>< 0.05). These genera are potentially excellent markers and could be used as targets for clinical BV diagnosis by molecular approaches.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The data presented here have clearly profiled the overall structure of vaginal communities and clearly demonstrated that BV is associated with a dramatic increase in the taxonomic richness and diversity of vaginal microbiota. The study also provides the most comprehensive picture of the vaginal community structure and the bacterial ecosystem, and significantly contributes to the current understanding of the etiology of BV.</p

    Research on a multilevel scheduling model for multi variety and variable batch production environments based on machine learning

    Traditional manufacturing enterprises cannot adjust their production line structure in the short term. They face significant challenges in adapting to the rapidly changing market environment and meeting various variable batch production requirements. Building a suitable and convenient multi-layer planning and scheduling model is an important goal to solve the efficient operation of manufacturing enterprises. This paper proposes a planning and scheduling design that meets the needs of enterprise and the production workshop using the APERT-VC model through a top-down design methodology. APERT is an enterprise-level plan that uses attention mechanisms to collect job plan time and decomposes project plans into workshop plans through PERT technology. virtual command is workshop level plan management, which converts workshop plans into time series vectors and achieves rapid and comprehensive guidance of workshop resource planning for enterprises through multiple classification and decision-making. Through experiments, the algorithm achieved production scheduling accuracy improvement of over 30% compared to previous algorithms and a decision accuracy rate of over 90%. The first half of the new model solves the problem of collecting work time for multi variety and variable batch products, and improves the accuracy of algorithm input. The second half of the new algorithm innovatively combines image recognition technology with dispatcher behavior, achieving efficient simulation results

    Prospective study of glycated hemoglobin and trajectories of depressive symptoms: The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study

    The longitudinal association between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and different courses of depressive symptoms is understudied. This study aimed to identify different trajectories of depressive symptoms and investigate the relation of HbA1c with the risk of increasing and high-stable depressive symptoms. In the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, depressive symptoms were measured using the 10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale in three visits (years: 2011, 2013 and 2015) among 9804 participants (mean age 60.0 ± 9.0 years). Group-based trajectory modeling was used to identify trajectories of depressive symptoms. HbA1c was measured at baseline and categorized five groups according to the respective quintile. Multinomial logistic regression was fitted to examine this relationship. Four distinct trajectories of depressive symptoms were identified: low symptoms (n=6401, 65.29%); decreasing symptoms (n=1362, 13.89%); increasing symptoms (n=1452, 14.81%); and high symptoms (n=1452, 14.81%). Adjusting for demographic, health-related, and cognitive factors, the risk ratio (95% confidence interval) pertaining to the highest HbA1c (Quintile 5) for decreasing, increasing, and high symptoms of depression versus low symptoms was 1.01 (0.82-1.25), 1.12 (0.92-1.36), and 1.39 (1.04-1.86) compared with the lowest HbA1c (Quintile 1), respectively. We observed a J-shaped relationship between HbA1c and high depressive symptoms, with the lowest risk at a HbA1c concentration of 5.0%. In summary, in this large population-based cohort, high levels of glycated hemoglobin concentrations were associated with a higher risk of increasing and high-stable symptoms of depression
