Higher order generalization and its application in program verification

Generalization is a fundamental operation of inductive inference. While first order syntactic generalization (anti–unification) is well understood, its various extensions are often needed in applications. This paper discusses syntactic higher order generalization in a higher order language λ2 [1]. Based on the application ordering, we prove that least general generalization exists for any two terms and is unique up to renaming. An algorithm to compute the least general generalization is also presented. To illustrate its usefulness, we propose a program verification system based on higher order generalization that can reuse the proofs of similar programs

Construction of a genetic AND gate under a new standard for assembly of genetic parts

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Appropriate regulation of respective gene expressions is a bottleneck for the realization of artificial biological systems inside living cells. The modification of several promoter sequences is required to achieve appropriate regulation of the systems. However, a time-consuming process is required for the insertion of an operator, a binding site of a protein for gene expression, to the gene regulatory region of a plasmid. Thus, a standardized method for integrating operator sequences to the regulatory region of a plasmid is required.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We developed a standardized method for integrating operator sequences to the regulatory region of a plasmid and constructed a synthetic promoter that functions as a genetic AND gate. By standardizing the regulatory region of a plasmid and the operator parts, we established a platform for modular assembly of the operator parts. Moreover, by assembling two different operator parts on the regulatory region, we constructed a regulatory device with an AND gate function.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We implemented a new standard to assemble operator parts for construction of functional genetic logic gates. The logic gates at the molecular scale have important implications for reprogramming cellular behavior.</p

Current Situation of Teachers of Informatics at High Schools in Japan

In March 2018, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology revised the curriculum guidelines for high school, which will be applied in 2022. The subject of Informatics has been drastically changed; ‘Informatics I’ and ‘Informatics II’ have a predominantly scientifc approach. This could be problematic given that a lot of ‘temporary teachers’ and ‘teachers without a proper license’ teach Informatics, and more than half of the teachers that teach Informatics are in charge of multiple subjects. So, it may be diffcult to implement new curriculum in the dozens of prefectures that have few teachers who specialize in Informatics. We report on the problems our investigation revealed

大学入試センター試験「情報関係基礎」の問題分類と高等学校共通教科情報科との対応

高等学校共通教科情報科は、2025年度大学入学共通テストから出題されることが大学入試センターと文部科学省から発表されている。しかし、その検討素材としては、大学入試センターが2020年に示した試作問題（検討用イメージ）と2021年に公開したサンプル問題しかない。そこで、2022年度から高等学校で始まる「情報Ⅰ」の授業内容の構築に資するべく、1997年度大学入試センター試験から出題されている「情報関係基礎」の問題を分類し、高等学校共通教科情報科との対応を試みた。The National Center for University Entrance Examinations and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology have announced that the high school common subject of Informatics will be presented in the Common Test for University Admission in 2025. However, the only materials available for consideration are the prototype questions (images for consideration) presented by the National Center for University Entrance Examinations in 2020 and the sample questions released in 2021. Therefore, in order to contribute to the construction of class contents for "Informatics I", which will start in high schools in 2022, the authors classified the questions of "Informatics Basics" from the 1997 National Center for University Entrance Examinations, and tried to correspond them to the common subject of informatic in high schools
