    Participation of Management Study Program Students in International Scientific Conferences: Perspectives and Experience

    Participation in international scientific conferences is often considered a valuable opportunity for students pursuing higher education, particularly in fields such as management. However, the extent to which Management Study Program students engage in such conferences and the impact of this participation on their academic and personal growth remain relatively underexplored areas of research. The research aims to provide insights into the participation of Management Study Program students in international scientific conferences, shedding light on their motivations, experiences, and the outcomes of such involvement. The descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the findings in the form of questionnaires given to 15 students of the management study program, Institut Bisnis dan Informatika Kwik Kian Gie who have attended the International Conference event. The general view of the students was that attending international conferences was considered beneficial for improving English language skills, organization, as well as socialization and understanding of diverse cultures although individual experiences and perspectives varied. Positive view towards participation in international conferences and see it as a valuable opportunity to improve their English language skills and their personal and professional development. It is expected that through this research, there will be more in-depth and extended research to investigate participants'' experiences in participating in international conference

    LISTENING AND SPEAKING SKILLS IN “ENGLISH IN MIND” TEXTBOOK BASED ON THE 2013 CURRICULUM

    The purpose of this research is to evaluate the compatibility of listening and speaking materials in the textbook “English in Mind” starter level based on the 2013 curriculum that is used in the Indonesian Junior High School for grade VII. This research is designed as a desciptive-evaluative content analysis. The data were collecting by analyzing the content of the textbook particulary listening and speaking parts, consisting of 15 (fifteen) unit including Welcome Unit with 6 sections in each unit. Analysis of the textbook was undertaken on listening and speaking skills, core and basic competencies of the 2013 Curriculum criteria. 1). The result shows that the “English in mind” covers 75% of the criteria of the curriculum listening skill material compatible with the core and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum. The rest 25% of the book content has no compatibility and similarity elements of core and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum. Meanwhile, the textbook “English in Mind”  has fulfilled  100% of the core  and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum for speaking skill material. Key Words: Listening skill, speaking skill, core competencies, basic competencies, The 2013 Curriculum

    The Role of TOEFL Preparation Courses in Improving Test Score

    The study analyses the implementation of TOEFL Preparation and provides conclusions and suggestions to improve participants' ability to face the TOEFL test. In the study, 40 participants participated in the implementation of TOEFL preparation courses which consisted of three parts, namely listening, structure, and reading. The analysis results showed that the average TOEFL score of the participants was 448, with the highest score reaching 540 and the lowest score of 376. Although the average score met the minimum requirements at IBIK 57 Campus, there were participants who did not reach the standard. Suggestions included individual coaching, increased listening practice, strengthened knowledge of grammar and structure, reading comprehension strategies, as well as encouragement for self-study and use of additional resources

    Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) must be recognized as a strategic and important force to accelerate regional development, because the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises is increasing every year, where the number of MSMEs in Indonesia in 2020 is 64.2 million units, and proven contributes 61 percent to GDP (Gross Domestic Income) (Airangga, 2021). MSME problems include financial and non-financial problems. To overcome these MSME problems, supply chain management can be implemented by implementing several activities, namely (1) management of managerial aspects aimed at increasing productivity, marketing capabilities, and human resource development, (2) capital aspects by collaborating with banks, and (3) partnership program to increase cooperation with suppliers and consumers. MSMEs who are members of the Garudayaksa Nusantara Cooperative in dealing with MSME problems apply the concept of supply chain management by choosing a few suppliers and an efficient distribution channel model, namely supplier-UMKM-consumer

    The assumption that English lessons are difficult makes some students feel reluctant to improve their English skills. This learning difficulty has an impact on the decline in academic achievement of students who are running this education. For this reason, the author felt the need to conduct a study on how effective the CEFR with an action-oriented approach is used in teaching English. This research was conducted by determining the students' actual level of English proficiency, setting achievable learning goals, and assisting students in more purposeful learning. The CEFR is a frame of reference used to measure a person's language ability, including English. This study is quantitative research. To measure the effectiveness of the study, pre and post-test assessments were used. The value of the pre and post-test assessment is the research data. The instrument used to collect data was the assessment of the English for Communication course. The respondents of this study were 63 students of Informatics Engineering and Information Systems 1st semester, Institut Bisnis dan Informatika  1957. The average score of students before and after the provision of CEFR material is different or there is an effect of increasing student scores from 55 to 72. It is very important to adjust the CEFR to the context and needs of students because the CEFR is a framework and not a curriculum. The findings of this study imply the following, namely recognizing the proficiency level of the learners: This study can reveal the proficiency level of English learners which can help align the curriculum with the CEFR levels. Determining areas of strength and weakness. Furthermore, this information can help design courses and select materials and activities that suit the needs of students and their proficiency levels. Lecturers can create instruments for assessment and evaluation using the CEFR framework

    Learners’ Perceptions of Online English Learning during COVID-19 Pandemic

    The purpose of this study is to find learners’ perceptions of online English learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has made closure to schools and universities all over the world and online learning is a way of constraining the spread of COVID-19 virus. The study used a descriptive method by surveying 108 students from Management and Informatics programs of Institut Bisnis & Informatika Kosgoro 1957 (IBI K57). The data were collected through questionnaires by instruments consisting of learners’ perceptions about the effectiveness of learning English online, the accessibility of internet during English online learning, the technical performance of lecturers to teach English online, and the level of difficulty of language skills to learn online. The validity of the questionnaire was tested by using expert opinions. The results of the study indicated shifting face-to-face learning to online learning particularly for English classes is also an effective way during the pandemic, the accessibility of the internet in online learning, it is an important factor should exist during learning activities, the students assumed positively that most lecturers know how to teach English online learning by using online platforms used in IBI K57, and the learners perceived that listening section is the most difficult skill to learn in online English class. The study implied that online learning is an important alternative way to help teaching and learning in the situation of the pandemic, it considers using proper technology, quality, and instructors’ competence to enhance and to encourage learners engaged in online learning environment

    Enhancing English Language Skills for Computer Students through Presentations

    Presentation affects the development of English-speaking skills because it requires good and fluent English-speaking skills. In fact, many students are not motivated to perform in-class presentations, especially using English. The study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of a presentation-based language learning approach The study was conducted using a survey design. The data is collected from 36 sample computer students through questionnaires. Interpreting the result of questionnaires and drawing conclusions is the way to analyze the data. Based on the results and findings, recommendations are made for how presentations can be used to enhance the English language skills of computer students are generally interested in and motivated by presentations to improve their English language skills. The majority of respondents stated that they were motivated to attend such presentations, and all agreed that they had gained a better understanding of the technical terms of computer science. For further improvement, there were various opinions on how the presentations could be improved to better enhance English language skill

Kualitatif- deskriptif  adalah metode yang diterapkan dalam peneltian ini. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara blended learing yang meliputi suasana belajar, materi perkuliahan, performa dosen serta tugas yang diberikan oleh dosen menunjukkan persepsi yang sangat baik dari mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian juga mempersepsikan bahwa interaksi dan suasana yang terjadi selama proses kegiatan belajar mengajar, pemantauan terhadap peserta belajar harus tetap terkendali terutama dalam hal kemajuan belajar, memberikan kegiatan instruksional yang membangkitkan motivasi serta efek afektif kepada peserta belajar baik pembelajaran secara tatap muka maupun online.     ERROR TYPES IN SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT

    The aim of this study is to identify the types of errors in subject-verb agreement. The basic mistakes made by students in subject-verb agreements are a lack of knowledge about sentence patterns and their types. The study applied a qualitative descriptive method. The study is to describe and classify the errors made by the students and identify which parts of the subject-verb agreement have the most errors. The data collection technique of this study is by collecting the results of a worksheet assessment on subject-verb agreement given to 89 students. The data is analyzed by investigating what types of errors the students make and what factors often occur in subject-verb agreement. The results of this indicate that there are errors made by students including: singular subject must agree with a singular verb as well as a plural subject must agree with a plural verb, errors in a compound subject, errors in using the verb of the form have, and errors in be verb. The study implies that grammar and sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreements, are basic chapters that must be trained continuously and become an important fundamental goal before students learn other things in English
