    Dynamic Load Sharing at Domestic Level Using the Internet of Things

    At the domestic level, load management plays a vital role as the consumer line gets overloaded due to the various load categories. The fully loaded line consumes more energy units, which increases the electricity bill of the consumer. To circumvent the issue of load unbalancing, an automated load management system is developed that shifts the load from one line to another. The proposed system is developed by making use of current and potential sensing transformers and the Arduino Mega board. Moreover, the proposed system also provides an internet of things (IoT) based monitoring facility to the user. The sensed information from the system is uploaded to the webserver with the help of Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) from where the user can access this information at any time through appropriate applications. Based on the monitoring data, the user can take necessary decisions regarding switching off unnecessary load. Both simulation and hardware results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system

    Application of Nanofluids for Thermal Management of Photovoltaic Modules: A Review

    Mounting temperature impedes the conversion efficiency of photovoltaic systems. Studies have shown drastic efficiency escalation of PV modules, if cooled by nanofluids. Ability of nanofluids to supplement the efficiency improvement of PV cells has sought attention of researchers. This chapter presents the magnitude of improved efficiency found by different researchers due to the cooling via nanofluids. The effect of factors (such as, nanoparticle size, nanofluid concentration, flowrate of nanofluid and geometry of channel containing nanofluid) influencing the efficiency of PV systems has been discussed. Collective results of different researchers indicate that the efficiency of the PV/T systems (using nanofluids as coolant) increases with increasing flowrate. Efficiency of these systems increases with increasing concentration of nanofluid up to a certain amount, but as the concentration gets above this certain value, the efficiency tends to decline due to agglomeration/clustering of nanoparticles. Pertaining to the most recent studies, stability of nanoparticles is still the major unresolved issue, hindering the commercial scale application of nanofluids for the cooling of PV panels.     Fear of getting Covid-19: A challenge to elective surgical practice and ways to overcome

    Background: Covid-19, a global pandemic has a huge impact on surgical practice. There is transmission risk of Covid-19 during the elective surgery and nowadays it is a part of informed consent process. This has an impact on patient decision making as it creates anxiety and fear. Objective: To evaluate patient experience (fear of getting Covid-19) from elective surgery and challenges of elective surgical practice and ways to overcome during this pandemic era. Methods: This study was an observational cross-sectional survey and it has been conducted in General Surgery Department of Dr Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital, Islamabad, from May to August 2021 after approval of Institutional Review Board (IRB). Participants for elective surgery and their negative report of Covid-19 infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were included in the study. Fear of Covid-19 infection was measured through “fear of Covid-19 scale” by Ahorsu et al and analyzed. All findings were entered in a structured Proforma. Data was entered in SPSS version 26 and analyzed. Effect modifier chi square was used to find out the patient’s dropout due to getting Covid-19 infection from surgery. Results: Total 200 patients were included; 62% patients were male and 38% were females. The mean age of the patients was 38.64±12.08 years. The statistical analysis showed that there was a very significant association between FCV-19 scale and getting Covid-19 infection from elective surgeries (p ≤ 0.05). When stratified FCV-19 scale with education status of all patients there was a very significant association between them (p=0.001). The patient’s observations regarding FCV-19 questionnaire, most of the patients were disagreed (46.3%) to getting Covid-19 infection from their elective surgeries or any fear of Covid-19 infection. The actual dropout of patients from elective surgery due to fear of getting Covid-19 infection during surgery or staying in hospital was 7.5%. Conclusion: Fear of getting Covid-19 is still present in some of the patients who visit hospitals for elective surgeries. Discussing the various steps taken by the institute to improve patient safety and minimize risk of Covid-19, greatly enhanced their confidence in elective surgery and improved satisfaction level.     Jamun (Syzygium cumini) seed and fruit extract attenuate hyperglycemia in diabetic rats

    Objective: To evaluate the potential of both jamun (Syzygium cumini) seed and fruit extracts against hyperglycemia. Methods: Male Sprague Dawley rats were used to evaluate hypoglycemic potential of jamun extracts. Purposely, jamun fruit and seed's ethanolic extracts based diets were provided to normal and high sucrose diet induced hyperglycemic/diabetic rats for sixty days. The serum glucose and insulin levels were monitored at monthly intervals to evaluate hypoglycemic effect of jamun extracts. Results: The results of instant research depicted that both seed and fruit extracts reduce the blood glucose level significantly and also regulate the insulin levels in hyperglycemic rats. It was noted that jamun fruit extract attenuated serum glucose levels to 5.35% and 12.29% in normal and hyperglycemic rats, respectively; while insulin levels were improved by 2.82% and 6.19%, correspondingly. Whereas, jamun seed extract reduced glucose to 7.04% & 14.36% and showed 3.56% & 7.24% higher insulin levels in normal & hyperglycemic rats, respectively. Conclusions: The present research revealed that both jamun fruit and seeds have potent prophylactic role against hyperglycemia. In this respect, diet based regimen may be tailored using jamun fruit/seed and their extracts to alleviate hyperglycemia

    VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol is one of the emerging and bleeding edge technologies that have in most cases sorted out the budget problems for the transmission and reception of voice communications. Indeed it is to use the Data Network infrastructure (Packet Switching Network) for the transmission and reception of voice calls. Though, people do prefer to use circuit switching network as it gives a dedicated path between end users that results in a crystal clear voice quality. Also the Digital communications “Modulation for the Transmitter end” and “Demodulation for the Receiving end” is involved (Digital Signal Processing to provide phenomenal voice quality) but no one can regret a fact that is; occasionally it becomes too expensive for the organization to provide dedicated paths to all employees. A promising solution is yes of course VoIP but the deployment of this technology introduces issues like Voice Quality, Jitter/ Delay, Quality of Service, Denial of Service etc. which is a challenge. In order to deploy VoIP communications in an existing Network it is very crucial and important to do proper planning and to analyze the network critically and justify whether it the Network is ready to cope with the VoIP services, as it can cause serious effects to the Network in case it is over burden. After doing that to assess and then evaluate by testing the network. This research is a case study based on B&A, A spy agency that has faced problems in the future regarding to call management and expansion.     Differentiation of Small Hepatic Hemangioma from Small Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Tri-Phasic Helical Computed Tomography Method

    Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks second amongst all causes of cancer deaths globally. It is on a rise in Pakistan and might represent the most common cancer in adult males. Among women, HCC is the 7th most common cancer and 6th most common cancer related death. In Pakistan prevalence of HCC varies from 3.7%-16% of malignant tumors and most common cause of HCC is viral hepatitis B, C and D related cirrhosis. Pakistan contributes significantly to global burden of hepatitis C, which is a known risk factor for HCC, and has one of the highest prevalence rates (>3%) in the world. Objective: To find out the difference of small hemangioma from small hepatic cellular carcinoma by using tri- phasic helical Computed Tomography method. Methodology: In this descriptive study, among 81 patients of suspected hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatocellular hemangioma were selected with age and gender discrimination by convenient sampling, at Department of Radiology, UOL Teaching hospital Lahore Pakistan. 128 slice Computed Tomography Toshiba Aquilion machine was used. Results: Out of 81 patients collected with the suspicion of hepatic hemangioma and hepatocellular carcinoma , 41 were females and 40 were males who visited radiology department. It shows 50.6% were females and males were 49.4%. Out of 81 patients, 25 patients came with HHS and 31 were with HCC. 25.9% develop carcinoma on left side, 32.1% on right side, 6.2% on R/L side and remaining 35.8% were Nill. Out of 81 patients 8 develop carcinoma on anterior, 5 on both, 3 on caudate, 5 on lateral,13 on both 4 on middle, 7 on posterior, 6 on segment eight, 1 on segment 4, 1 on segment 7, 1 on segment 2 and remaining 36 sites were nill. 27.5% males develop HCC and 48.8% females develop HCC. Out of 81 patients 36.6% female patients develop HHS and 25.0% male patients develop HHS. Conclusion: In this study we conclude that females develop a large number of HCC and HHS than males. Hepatocellular carcinoma shows enhancement in early arterial and early washout phase while post-contrast images showing capsule-appearance which is relatively specific for HCC. On the other hand, HHS shows uniform enhancement in arterial phase and iso- or hyper-attenuating to liver parenchyma on delayed phase. The paper will specifically focus on a special DRT called “Flexible Bus Systems” (FBS). In FBS the routes of the buses are so flexible that even they can take a short route to pick up the passenger waiting at the bus stops by skipping the bus stops where no passenger is waiting to ride the bus and no passenger wants to drop off. The major objective of using the mobile devices in FBS is to provide passengers with real time information of buses, facility of booking bus tickets on the fly using their mobile devices. Furthermore, NFC tags are used to help tourists get the information about the city along with bus schedules on their NFC enabled smart devices

    A context-aware encryption protocol suite for edge computing-based IoT devices

    Heterogeneous devices are connected with each other through wireless links within a cyber physical system. These devices undergo resource constraints such as battery, bandwidth, memory and computing power. Moreover, the massive interconnections of these devices result in network latency and reduced speed. Edge computing offers a solution to this problem in which devices transmit the preprocessed actionable data in a formal way, resulting in reduced data traffic and improved speed. However, to provide the same level of security to each piece of information is not feasible due to limited resources. In addition, not all the data generated by Internet of things devices require a high level of security. Context-awareness principles can be employed to select an optimal algorithm based on device specifications and required information confidentiality level. For context-awareness, it is essential to consider the dynamic requirements of data confidentiality as well as device available resources. This paper presents a context-aware encryption protocol suite that selects optimal encryption algorithm according to device specifications and the level of data confidentiality. The results presented herein clearly exhibit that the devices were able to save 79% memory consumption, 56% battery consumption and 68% execution time by employing the proposed context-aware encryption protocol suite
