Horizon Mass Theorem
A new theorem for black holes is found. It is called the horizon mass
theorem. The horizon mass is the mass which cannot escape from the horizon of a
black hole. For all black holes: neutral, charged or rotating, the horizon mass
is always twice the irreducible mass observed at infinity. Previous theorems on
black holes are: 1. the singularity theorem, 2. the area theorem, 3. the
uniqueness theorem, 4. the positive energy theorem. The horizon mass theorem is
possibly the last general theorem for classical black holes. It is crucial for
understanding Hawking radiation and for investigating processes occurring near
the horizon.Comment: A new theorem for black holes is establishe
Test code for the assessment and improvement of Reynolds stress models
An existing two-dimensional, compressible flow, Navier-Stokes computer code, containing a full Reynolds stress turbulence model, was adapted for use as a test bed for assessing and improving turbulence models based on turbulence simulation experiments. To date, the results of using the code in comparison with simulated channel flow and over an oscillating flat plate have shown that the turbulence model used in the code needs improvement for these flows. It is also shown that direct simulation of turbulent flows over a range of Reynolds numbers are needed to guide subsequent improvement of turbulence models
Large magnetoresistance using hybrid spin filter devices
A magnetic "spin filter" tunnel barrier, sandwiched between a non-magnetic
metal and a magnetic metal, is used to create a new magnetoresistive tunnel
device, somewhat analogous to an optical polarizer-analyzer configuration. The
resistance of these trilayer structures depends on the relative magnetization
orientation of the spin filter and the ferromagnetic electrode. The spin
filtering in this configuration yields a previously unobserved
magnetoresistance effect, exceeding 100%.Comment: 3.5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Appl. Phys. Let
Coupling of Gravity to Matter via SO(3,2) Gauge Fields
We consider gravity from the quantum field theory point of view and introduce
a natural way of coupling gravity to matter by following the gauge principle
for particle interactions. The energy-momentum tensor for the matter fields is
shown to be conserved and follows as a consequence of the dynamics in a
spontaneously broken SO(3,2) gauge theory of gravity. All known interactions
are described by the gauge principle at the microscopic level.Comment: 12 latex page
NaOH treatment of vacuum-plasma-sprayed titanium on carbon fibre-reinforced poly(etheretherketone)
Carbon fibre-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CF-PEEK) substrates were coated with titanium by vacuum-plasma-spraying and chemically treated in 10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution. After NaOH treatment, the specimens were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) containing ions in concentrations similar to those of human blood plasma. Scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and diffuse reflectance Fourier transformed-infrared spectroscopy were used to analyse the NaOH-treated VPS-Ti surface and the calcium phosphate layer formed during immersion in SBF. It was observed that a carbonate-containing calcium phosphate layer was formed on the NaOH-treated VPS-Ti surface during immersion in SBF, whereas no calcium phosphate precipitation occurred on the untreated surfaces. It is therefore concluded that vacuum-plasma-spraying with titanium and subsequent chemical modification in 10 M NaOH solution at 60°C for 2 h is a suitable method for the preparation of bioactive coatings for bone ongrowth on CF-PEE
The mystery of relationship of mechanics and field in the many-body quantum world
We have revealed three fatal errors incurred from a blind transferring of
quantum field methods into the quantum mechanics. This had tragic consequences
because it produced crippled model Hamiltonians, unfortunately considered
sufficient for a description of solids including superconductors. From there,
of course, Fr\"ohlich derived wrong effective Hamiltonian, from which incorrect
BCS theory arose.
1) Mechanical and field patterns cannot be mixed. Instead of field methods
applied to the mechanical Born-Oppenheimer approximation we have entirely to
avoid it and construct an independent and standalone field pattern. This leads
to a new form of the Bohr's complementarity on the level of composite systems.
2) We have correctly to deal with the center of gravity, which is under the
field pattern "materialized" in the form of new quasipartiles - rotons and
translons. This leads to a new type of relativity of internal and external
degrees of freedom and one-particle way of bypassing degeneracies (gap
formation).
3) The possible symmetry cannot be apriori loaded but has to be aposteriori
obtained as a solution of field equations, formulated in a general form without
translational or any other symmetry. This leads to an utterly revised view of
symmetry breaking in non-adiabatic systems, namely Jahn-Teller effect and
superconductivity. These two phenomena are synonyms and share a unique symmetry
breaking.Comment: 24 pages, 9 sections; remake of abstract, introduction and
