    Nonparametric estimation of the fragmentation kernel based on a PDE stationary distribution approximation

    We consider a stochastic individual-based model in continuous time to describe a size-structured population for cell divisions. This model is motivated by the detection of cellular aging in biology. We address here the problem of nonparametric estimation of the kernel ruling the divisions based on the eigenvalue problem related to the asymptotic behavior in large population. This inverse problem involves a multiplicative deconvolution operator. Using Fourier technics we derive a nonparametric estimator whose consistency is studied. The main difficulty comes from the non-standard equations connecting the Fourier transforms of the kernel and the parameters of the model. A numerical study is carried out and we pay special attention to the derivation of bandwidths by using resampling

    In this paper, three control algorithms based on input shaping method are developed to suppress the residual vibration of a flexible beam. The flexible beam is modeled as an under-damped system. Three input shapers, ZV, ZVD, and ZVDD, are used to control the flexible beam. The three control algorithms are implemented by using the Mechatrolink-III motion system. The experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the three control algorithms

    Oral contraceptive use in girls and alcohol consumption in boys are associated with increased blood pressure in late adolescence

    Aims: Lifestyle behaviours established during adolescence may adversely affect blood pressure (BP) and contribute to gender differences in cardiovascular risk in adulthood. We aimed to assess the association of health behaviours with BP in adolescents, using data from the Western Australian Pregnancy (Raine) Study. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis on 1248 Raine Study adolescents aged 17 years, to examine associations between lifestyle factors and BP. Results: Boys had 8.97 mmHg higher systolic BP, as compared with girls. The 30% of girls using oral contraceptives (OC) had 3.27 and 1.74 mmHg higher systolic and diastolic BP, respectively, compared with non-users. Alcohol consumption in boys, increasing body mass index (BMI) and the sodium-potassium ratio were associated with systolic BP. We found a continuous relationship between BMI and systolic BP in both genders; however, the gradient of this relationship was significantly steeper in boys, compared with girls not taking OC. In boys, systolic BP was 5.7 mmHg greater in alcohol consumers who were in the upper quartile of BMI and the urinary sodium-potassium ratio compared with teetotallers in the lowest quartile. In girls, systolic BP was 5.5 mmHg higher in those taking OC, in the highest BMI and urinary sodium-potassium ratio quartile as compared to those not taking the OC pill and in the lowest quartile. Conclusion: In addition to gender-related differences in the effects of adiposity on BP, we found lifestyle-related health behaviours such as high salt intake for both sexes, consumption of alcohol in boys, and OC use in girls were important factors associated with BP measurements in late adolescence. This suggests that gender-specific behavioural modification in adolescence may prevent adult hypertension

    IMPACT OF THE EVFTA AGREEMENT: A STUDY ON VIETNAM'S EXPORTED GOODS

    Abstract The research aims to assess the quantitative impact of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on Vietnam's export growth to the EU market. The study employs quantitative analysis using the SMART model with data on export turnover and scenarios of tariff reduction to 0% when EVFTA takes effect. Based on the export turnover data and necessary parameters, the analysis results show an increase in Vietnam's exports to the EU market when EVFTA becomes effective. As a result, the research proposes some implications to promote Vietnam's export activities to the EU in the future

    Study Structure and Properties of Nanocomposite Material Based on Unsaturated Polyester with Clay Modified by Poly(ethylene oxide)

    In recent years, polymer clay nanocomposites have been attracting considerable interests in polymers science because of their advantages. There are many scientists who researched about this kind of material and demonstrated that when polymer matrix was added to little weight of clay, properties were enhanced considerably. Because clay is a hydrophilic substance so it is difficult to use as filler in polymer matrix having hydrophobic nature, so clay needs to be modified to become compatible with polymer. In this study, poly(ethylene oxide) was used as a new modifier for clay to replace some traditional ionic surfactants such as primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary alkyl ammonium or alkylphosphonium cations having the following disadvantages: disintegrate at high temperature, catalyze polymer degradation, and make nanoproducts colorific, and so forth. In order to evaluate modifying effect of poly(ethylene oxide), modified clay products were characterize d by X-ray spectrum. Then organoclay was used to prepare nanocomposite based on unsaturated polyester. Morphology and properties of nanocomposites were measure d by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, tensile strength, and thermal stability. The results showed that clay galleries changed to intercalated state in the nanocomposites. Properties of nanocomposites were improved a lot when the loading of the organoclay was used at 1 phr

    Room-temperature strong coupling in a single photon emitter-dielectric metasurface system

    Single-photon sources with high brightness and long coherence time are promising qubit candidates for quantum technology. To this end, interfacing emitters with high-finesse cavities is required, especially in the strong coupling regime, which so far has only been limited to cryogenic temperatures. Here, we experimentally demonstrate, at room temperature, strong coupling between a single photon emitter and a novel cavity based on optical bound states in the continuum. A remarkably large Rabi splitting of ~4 meV is achieved thanks to the combination of the narrow linewidth and large oscillator strength of emitters in hexagonal boron nitride and the efficient photon trapping of the cavity. Our findings unveil new opportunities to realise scalable quantum devices and explore fundamentally new regimes of strong coupling in quantum systems at room-temperature

    (Clinicopathologic Conference) This male newborn was admitted to SOHWA Children's Hospital on Aug 27, 1987 because of abdominal distension and anuria. He was born by Cesarian section due to breech presentation on July 28, 1987 at KURO Hospital The gestational age was 37 +4 weeks and the membrane ruptured 2 hours before the delivery. At birth, his body weight was 2.370gm. He had been admitted to KURO Hospital under the impression of hydronephrosis and acute renal failure until Aug. 18, 1987 (22nd day of Iife). At birth he had good Apgar scores. But weight gain was poor, and on the 15th hospital day an abdominal mass in the left upper quadrant was palpated. The abdominal sonography showed bilateral hy-dronephrosis. Serum BUN and creatinine were 188 mg% and 5,3 mg%. Serum Na was 132mEq/L, K 6.5 mEq/L, CI 97 mEq/L and CO26 mEq/L. Peritoneal dialysis was done with peritosol from the 15th to 16th hospital day. On the 20th hospital day, serum BUN and creatinine became 118 mg% and 3.4 mg%.Blood electrolytes showed serum Na 116mEq/L,K 6.5 mEq/L, CI 89 mEq/L and CO2 17.5 mEq/L.IVP revealed non-visualization of both kidneys. At the 22nd hospital day, he was discharged against advice
