On the Landau gauge matter-gluon vertex in scalar QCD in a functional approach
Recently the quark-gluon vertex has been investigated in Landau gauge using a
combined Dyson-Schwinger and nPI effective action approach. We present here a
numerical analysis of a simpler system where the quarks have been replaced by
charged scalar fields. We solve the coupled system of Dyson-Schwinger equations
for the scalar propagator, the scalar-gluon vertex and the Yang-Mills
propagators in a truncation related to earlier studies. The calculations have
been performed for scalars both in the fundamental and the adjoint
representation. A clear suppression of the Abelian diagram is found in both
cases. Thus, within the used truncation the suppression of the Abelian diagram
predominantly happens dynamically and is to a high degree independent of the
colour structure. The numerical techniques developed here can directly be
applied to the fermionic case.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, presented by MH at Excited QCD 2013, 3rd - 9th

The Quark-Gluon Vertex in Landau gauge QCD
The coupled system of the quark-gluon vertex and quark propagator
Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) is investigated within Landau gauge QCD. The
aim is to get a deeper insight into the mechanisms of quark confinement and
dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and into a possible relation between these
two phenomena. To this end an earlier study is extended by improving
systematically on the truncations imposed on the quark-gluon vertex DSE. A
clear infrared enhancement for all tensor structures of the quark-gluon vertex
is obtained.Comment: 8 pages, Confinement X proceeding
Center Phase Transition from Fundamentally Charged Matter Propagators
The center phase transition at non-vanishing temperatures is investigated in
Landau gauge Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and scalar QCD. For each theory novel
order parameters for the transition are introduced. The matter-gluon vertex
which occurs in the Dyson-Schwinger equations of the propagators has to be
modeled in contemporary studies. It is found that the nature of the phase
transition depends strongly on the detailed structure of this vertex. Our
investigation motivates a precise determination of the matter-gluon vertex at
non-vanishing temperatures.Comment: 8 pages, Confinement X proceeding
Correlating wine quality indicators to chemical and sensory measurements.
Twenty-seven commercial Californian Cabernet Sauvignon wines of different quality categories were analyzed with sensory and chemical methods. Correlations between five quality proxies-points awarded during a wine competition, wine expert scores, retail price, vintage, and wine region-were correlated to sensory attributes, volatile compounds, and elemental composition. Wine quality is a multi-faceted construct, incorporating many different layers. Depending on the quality proxy studied, significant correlations between quality and attributes, volatiles and elements were found, some of them previously reported in the literature
The Impact of Mindfulness on Healthy Food Choices
The practice of mindfulness has a long history in research, particularly psychological studies. In this paper I examine the effects of a short mindfulness intervention on healthy food purchases. Specifically, I developed an online survey and recruited 634 participants via Prolific between July 24 - July 27, 2020. I randomly assigned participants to either a mindfulness manipulation or a control condition. Following treatment (or control) participants completed a food choice task and various other control. Following the survey, I analyzed data using R version 4.0.2 (2020-06-22) and R-Studio. I estimated three different regression models, ordinary least squares (OLS), Poisson, and Negative Binomial (NB) (Wooldridge, 2006) to analyze the collected data. My findings bridge the gap in the literature of online mindfulness interventions and food purchase behaviors. In particular, I studied the impact of the 5-minute body scan on healthy food choices in a hypothetical grocery shopping experiment. My research suggests that the mindfulness intervention could increase healthy food purchases for the overweight and obese subsample. This is consistent with earlier findings for a similar population in the context of food consumption. Furthermore, my research highlights the importance of nutrition knowledge in promoting healthy food choices
Center phase transition from matter propagators in (scalar) QCD
Novel order parameters for the confinement-deconfinement phase transition of
quenched QCD and fundamentally charged scalar QCD are presented. Similar to the
well-known dual condensate, they are defined via generalized matter propagators
with -valued boundary conditions. The order parameters are easily
accessible with functional methods. Their validity and accessibility is
explicitly demonstrated by numerical studies of the Dyson-Schwinger equations
for the matter propagators. Even in the case of heavy scalar matter, where the
propagator does not show a signature of the phase transition, a discontinuity
due to the transition can be extracted in the order parameters, establishing
also fundamentally charged scalar matter as a probe for color confinement.Comment: accepted versio
In pursuit of purpose : an exploration of the purpose of education
The purpose of this study was to describe the perceptions of school administrators and teachers regarding the purposes of education and to compare it with the perceptions of policy-makers as expressed in mandated accountability efforts. Through the use of a researcher-designed questionnaire, a random sample of K-6 elementary school principals and classroom teachers in public schools in one state were asked to share their perceptions of 12 identified educational purposes by rating and ranking those purposes. Questionnaires were returned by 612 (77.1%) educators; 323 school administrators, 288 classroom teachers and 1 respondent whose job position was not indicated. Data were entered into the SPSS program for analysis. Both parametric and non-parametric tests were used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive statistics were generated and relationships identified through the development of Cross-tabulation tables. Pearson\u27s chi-square values were calculated to determine significant differences in response. This study revealed high levels of concurrence between school administrators\u27 and teachers\u27 ratings of 12 identified educational purposes. Ranked highest were the purposes of Literacy and Knowledge with Democratic, Economic, Individual and Socialization following closely behind. Three of the purposes, Child Care, Social Mobility and Acculturation were rejected as purposes for education. Further, the results support the research and literature suggesting that multiple purposes are held for education. Beyond this, the findings also suggest concurrence between school administrators\u27 and teachers\u27 highest ranked purposes, Knowledge and Literacy, and those expressed by policy-makers in the mandating of standards and accountability
