Is Diamond a Resource Curse for Africa?

This paper investigates the resource curse in diamond exporting industry in African countries. The empirical evidence about the “resource curse” is mixed in literature and almost none has been done regarding diamond. Our study aims to bridge that gap. The results suggest that diamond export is positively correlated with well-being in a group of African countries. In other words, the “resource curse” may not occur in diamond mining industry after the Kimberly Process (KP) was put in place in 2002. We argue that the KP serves as a good institution and has created good incentives for firms in the industry. In return, these firms may have created better jobs and increased well-being in these countries. The author is thankful for continuous support and critical advice from Dr. Tuan V. Le

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to examine whether various post-assault internal processes (i.e., present control, event centrality, and compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding) would predict distress and resilience among women who have experienced adult sexual assault (ASA). Additionally, we tested whether compassionate and uncompassionate self-responses would moderate the relationships between event centrality and outcomes. Method: A convenience sample of women who had experienced sexual assault during adulthood (N = 253) completed an anonymous online survey. Results: Regression analyses showed that lower present control, higher event centrality, and higher uncompassionate responses to the self significantly predicted PTSD. Additionally, higher present control and higher compassionate responses to the self significantly predicted resilience. There was no moderation of the relationship between event centrality and outcomes by either compassionate responses to the self or uncompassionate responses to the self. Conclusions: Endorsing greater levels of uncompassionate responses towards the self was associated with greater distress, while engaging in greater compassionate responses to the self was associated with greater resilience, even when accounting for levels of present control and event centrality

Sharon Jennings was also named as the Director of Programs for the deaf and Blind. In the fall of 1986, enrollment in the Day program reached an all time high. The majority of this issue was filled with pictures from Earl Scruggs Day, celebrating the renowned musician. Dr. Frank Campbell lectured to the Staley Distinguished Christian Scholars. The final article, approximately one page, details the struggles and strides that it takes to be a blind runner, as the paper interviewed Doug Armstrong.https://digitalcommons.gardner-webb.edu/the-web/1118/thumbnail.jp
