Perturbative and nonperturbative contributions to the strange quark asymmetry in the nucleon
There are two mechanisms for the generation of an asymmetry between the
strange and anti-strange quark distributions in the nucleon: nonperturbative
contributions originating from nucleons fluctuating into virtual baryon-meson
pairs such as and , and perturbative contributions
arising from gluons splitting into strange and anti-strange quark pairs. While
the nonperturbative contributions are dominant in the large- region, the
perturbative contributions are more significant in the small- region. We
calculate this asymmetry taking into account both nonperturbative and
perturbative contributions, thus giving a more accurate evaluation of this
asymmetry over the whole domain of . We find that the perturbative
contributions are generally a few times larger in magnitude than the
nonperturbative contributions, which suggests that the best region to detect
this asymmetry experimentally is in the region . We find that
the asymmetry may have more than one node, which is an effect that should be
taken into account, e.g. for parameterizations of the strange and anti-strange
quark distributions used in global analysis of parton distributions.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, figures comparing theoretical calculations with

Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons
The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and
Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample
of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with
the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the
decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 ->
\~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and
BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching
fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X)
< 6.6%

New data are presented on from a sample of 58M
events in the upgraded BES II detector at the BEPC. There is a
conspicuous signal for and a peak at higher mass which
may be fitted with . From a combined analysis with
data, the branching ratio

Direct Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+
The absolute branching fraction of has been directly
measured by an analysis of a data sample of about 33 collected
around GeV with the BES-II at the BEPC. At these energies,
meson is produced in pair as . A total of mesons are reconstructed from this data set. In the
recoil side of the tagged mesons, purely leptonic decay
events of are observed. This yields a branching fraction of
, and a
corresponding pseudoscalar decay constant
MeV.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Physics Letters B in October, 200
Dynamic stability of vortex solutions of Ginzburg-Landau and nonlinear Schrödinger equations
The dynamic stability of vortex solutions to the Ginzburg-Landau and nonlinear Schrödinger equations is the basic assumption of the asymptotic particle plus field description of interacting vortices. For the Ginzburg-Landau dynamics we prove that all vortices are asymptotically nonlinearly stable relative to small radial perturbations. Initially finite energy perturbations of vortices decay to zero in L p (â 2 ) spaces with an algebraic rate as time tends to infinity. We also prove that under general (nonradial) perturbations, the plus and minus one-vortices are linearly dynamically stable in L 2 ; the linearized operator has spectrum equal to (ââ, 0] and generates a C 0 semigroup of contractions on L 2 (â 2 ). The nature of the zero energy point is clarified; it is resonance , a property related to the infinite energy of planar vortices. Our results on the linearized operator are also used to show that the plus and minus one-vortices for the Schrödinger (Hamiltonian) dynamics are spectrally stable, i.e. the linearized operator about these vortices has ( L 2 ) spectrum equal to the imaginary axis. The key ingredients of our analysis are the Nash-Aronson estimates for obtaining Gaussian upper bounds for fundamental solutions of parabolic operator, and a combination of variational and maximum principles.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/46494/1/220_2005_Article_BF02099719.pd
Direct Measurements of the Branching Fractions for and and Determinations of the Form Factors and
The absolute branching fractions for the decays and

tagged sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the
BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged
meson, events for and events for decays are observed. Those yield
the absolute branching fractions to be and . The
vector form factors are determined to be

factors is measured to be .Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
