    Low-Mass Baryon-Antibaryon Enhancements in B Decays

    The nature of low-mass baryon-antibaryon enhancements seen in B decays is explored. Three possibilities include (i) states near threshold as found in a model by Nambu and Jona-Lasinio, (ii) isoscalar states with JPC=0±+J^{PC} = 0^{\pm +} coupled to a pair of gluons, and (iii) low-mass enhancements favored by the fragmentation process.     Understanding the Gap between Website Value and Consumer Shopping Orientation: An Application of Task-Technology Fit Theory to Online shopping Values

    Value judgments, such as functional, emotional, utilitarian, and hedonic values have received considerable attention in recent years. However, research on these interrelationships has been somewhat limited in online shopping, particularly in regards to the gap between website values versus consumer shopping orientations. The purpose of this research is to propose and empirically test a conceptual framework that incorporates the interrelationships of website values, shopping satisfaction, and repurchase intention into framework and validate them in a B2C online shopping context. Specifically, we examine the moderating role of consumer shopping orientations in the impact of website values on shopping satisfaction. Our results suggest that the impact of website values on shopping satisfaction is negatively moderated by consumer shopping orientations. Therefore, functional and emotional values are probably necessary but are an insufficient precondition for cultivating shopping satisfaction. Moreover, consumer hedonic orientation plays a slightly higher influence on shopping satisfaction than utilitarian orientation. Understanding these factors can provide direction for planning website features as well as consumer desired values that will increase shopping satisfaction and repurchase intention

    Hadronic Charmed Meson Decays Involving Axial Vector Mesons

    Cabibbo-allowed charmed meson decays into a pseudoscalar meson and an axial-vector meson are studied. The charm to axial-vector meson transition form factors are evaluated in the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise quark model. The dipole momentum dependence of the DKD\to K transition form factor and the presence of a sizable long-distance WW-exchange are the two key ingredients for understanding the data of DKˉa1D\to \bar Ka_1. The K1AK1BK_{1A}-K_{1B} mixing angle of the strange axial-vector mesons is found to be ±37\approx \pm37^\circ or ±58\pm58^\circ from τK1ντ\tau\to K_1\nu_\tau decays. The study of DK1(1270)π,K1(1400)πD\to K_1(1270)\pi, K_1(1400)\pi decays excludes the positive mixing-angle solutions. It is pointed out that an observation of the decay D0K1(1400)π+D^0\to K_1^-(1400)\pi^+ at the level of 5×1045\times 10^{-4} will rule out θ37\theta\approx -37^\circ and favor the solution θ58\theta\approx -58^\circ. Though the decays D0Kˉ10π0D^0\to \bar K_1^0\pi^0 are color suppressed, they are comparable to and even larger than the color-allowed counterparts: Kˉ10(1270)π0K1(1270)π+\bar K_1^0(1270)\pi^0\sim K_1^-(1270)\pi^+ and Kˉ10(1400)π0>K1(1400)π+\bar K_1^0(1400)\pi^0> K_1^-(1400)\pi^+. The finite width effect of the axial-vector resonance is examined. It becomes important for a1(1260)a_1(1260) in particular when its width is near 600 MeV.Comment: 19 page

    Final-State Phases in Doubly-Cabibbo-Suppressed Charmed Meson Nonleptonic Decays

    Cabibbo-favored nonleptonic charmed particle decays exhibit large final-state phase differences in Kˉπ\bar K \pi and Kˉπ\bar K^* \pi but not Kˉρ\bar K \rho channels. It is of interest to know the corresponding pattern of final-state phases in doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed decays, governed by the cdusˉc \to d u \bar s subprocess. An experimental program is outlined for determining such phases via measurements of rates for DKπD \to K^* \pi and K(ρ,ω,ϕ)K (\rho, \omega,\phi) channels, and determination of interference between bands in Dalitz plots.     Flavor symmetry analysis of charmless B --> VP decays

    Based upon flavor SU(3) symmetry, we perform global fits to charmless B decays into one pseudoscalar meson and one vector meson in the final states. We consider different symmetry breaking schemes and find that the one implied by na{\"i}ve factorization is slightly favored over the exact symmetry case. The (ρˉ,ηˉ)(\bar\rho,\bar\eta) vertex of the unitarity triangle (UT) constrained by our fits is consistent with other methods within errors. We have found large color-suppressed, electroweak penguin and singlet penguin amplitudes when the spectator quark ends up in the final-state vector meson. Nontrivial relative strong phases are also required to explain the data. The best-fit parameters are used to compute branching ratio and CP asymmetry observables in all of the decay modes, particularly those in the BsB_s decays to be measured at the Tevatron and LHC experiments.Comment: 23 pages and 2 plots; updated with ICHEP'08 data and expanded in discussions and reference

    qqqbar to qqqbar and qqbarqbar to qqbarqbar Elastic Scatterings and Thermalization of Quark Matter and Antiquark Matter

    Thermalization of quark matter and antiquark matter is studied with quark-quark-antiquark as well as quark-antiquark-antiquark elastic scatterings. Squared amplitudes of qqqbar to qqqbar and qqbarqbar to qqbarqbar at order alpha_s^4 are derived in perturbative QCD. Solved by a new technique, solutions of transport equations with the squared amplitudes indicate that the scatterings qqqbar to qqqbar and qqbarqbar to qqbarqbar shorten the thermalization time of quark matter and antiquark matter. It is emphasized that three-parton and other multi-parton scatterings become important at the high parton number density achieved in RHIC Au-Au collisions.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, Late

    Genome sequence and analysis of the tuber crop potato

    Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the world’s most important non-grain food crop and is central to global food security. It is clonally propagated, highly heterozygous, autotetraploid, and suffers acute inbreeding depression. Here we use a homozygous doubled-monoploid potato clone to sequence and assemble 86% of the 844-megabase genome. We predict 39,031 protein-coding genes and present evidence for at least two genome duplication events indicative of a palaeopolyploid origin. As the first genome sequence of an asterid, the potato genome reveals 2,642 genes specific to this large angiosperm clade. We also sequenced a heterozygous diploid clone and show that gene presence/absence variants and other potentially deleterious mutations occur frequently and are a likely cause of inbreeding depression. Gene family expansion, tissue-specific expression and recruitment of genes to new pathways contributed to the evolution of tuber development.     Uniaxial Phase Transition in Si : Ab initio Calculations

    Based on a previously proposed thermodynamic analysis, we study the relative stabilities of five Si phases under uniaxial compression using ab initio methods. The five phases are diamond, beta-tin, sh, sc, and hcp structures. The possible phase-transition patterns were investigated by considering the phase transitions between any two chosen phases of the five phases. By analyzing the different conributions to the relative pahse stability, we identified the most important factors in reducing the phase-transition pressures at uniaxial compression. We also show that it is possible to have phase transitions occur only when the phases are under uniaxial compression, in spite of no phase transition when under hydrostatic commpression. Taking all five phases into consideration, the phase diagram at uniaxial compression was constructed for pressures under 20 GPa. The stable phases were found to be diamond, beta-tin and sh structures, i.e. the same as those when under hydrostatic condition. According to the phase diagram, direct phase transition from the diamond to the sh phase is possible if the applied uniaxial pressures, on increasing, satisfy the condition of Px>Pz. Simiilarly, the sh-to-beta-tin transition on increeasing pressures is also possible if the applied uniaxial pressures are varied from the condition of Px>Pz, on which the phase of sh is stable, to that of Px<Pz, on which the beta-tin is stable

    The interaction between strigolactones and other plant hormones in the regulation of plant development : Review

    Plant hormones are small molecules derived from various metabolic pathways and are important regulators of plant development. The most recently discovered phytohormone class comprises the carotenoid-derived strigolactones (SLs). For a long time these compounds were only known to be secreted into the rhizosphere where they act as signaling compounds, but now we know they are also active as endogenous plant hormones and they have been in the spotlight ever since. The initial discovery that SLs are involved in the inhibition of axillary bud outgrowth, initiated a multitude of other studies showing that SLs also play a role in defining root architecture, secondary growth, hypocotyl elongation, and seed germination, mostly in interaction with other hormones. Their coordinated action enables the plant to respond in an appropriate manner to environmental factors such as temperature, shading, day length, and nutrient availability. Here, we will review the current knowledge on the crosstalk between SLs and other plant hormones—such as auxin, cytokinin, abscisic acid (ABA), ethylene (ET), and gibberellins (GA)—during different physiological processes. We will furthermore take a bird's eye view of how this hormonal crosstalk enables plants to respond to their ever changing environments
