On Dimensional Degression in AdS(d)
We analyze the pattern of fields in d+1 dimensional anti-de Sitter space in
terms of those in d dimensional anti-de Sitter space. The procedure, which is
neither dimensional reduction nor dimensional compactification, is called
dimensional degression. The analysis is performed group-theoretically for all
totally symmetric bosonic and fermionic representations of the anti-de Sitter
algebra. The field-theoretical analysis is done for a massive scalar field in
AdS(d+d) and massless spin one-half, spin one, and spin two fields in
AdS(d+1). The mass spectra of the resulting towers of fields in AdS(d) are
found. For the scalar field case, the obtained results extend to the shadow
sector those obtained by Metsaev in [1] by a different method.Comment: 30 page
Monoid automata for displacement context-free languages
In 2007 Kambites presented an algebraic interpretation of
Chomsky-Schutzenberger theorem for context-free languages. We give an
interpretation of the corresponding theorem for the class of displacement
context-free languages which are equivalent to well-nested multiple
context-free languages. We also obtain a characterization of k-displacement
context-free languages in terms of monoid automata and show how such automata
can be simulated on two stacks. We introduce the simultaneous two-stack
automata and compare different variants of its definition. All the definitions
considered are shown to be equivalent basing on the geometric interpretation of
memory operations of these automata.Comment: Revised version for ESSLLI Student Session 2013 selected paper
Haloalkaliphilic spore-forming sulfidogens from soda lake sediments and description of Desulfitispora alkaliphila gen. nov., sp. nov.
An anaerobic enrichment with pyruvate as electron donor and thiosulfate at pH 10 and 0.6 M Na+ inoculated with pasteurized soda lake sediments resulted in a sulfidogenic coculture of two morphotypes of obligately anaerobic haloalkaliphilic endospore-forming clostridia, which were further isolated in pure culture. Strain AHT16 was a thin long rod able to ferment sugars and pyruvate and to respire H2, formate and pyruvate using thiosulfate and fumarate as electron acceptors and growing optimally at pH 9.5. Thiosulfate was reduced incompletely to sulfide and sulfite. The strain was closely related (99% sequence similarity) to a peptolytic alkaliphilic clostridium Natronincola peptidovorans. Strain AHT17 was a short rod with a restricted respiratory metabolism, growing with pyruvate and lactate as electron donor and sulfite, thiosulfate and elemental sulfur as electron acceptors with a pH optimum 9.5. Thiosulfate was reduced completely via sulfite to sulfide. The ability of AHT17 to use sulfite explained the stability of the original coculture of the two clostridia—one member forming sulfite from thiosulfate and another consuming it. Strain AHT17 formed an independent deep phylogenetic lineage within the Clostridiales and is proposed as a new genus and species Desulfitisporum alkaliphilum gen. nov., sp. nov. Laser performance of perylenebis (dicarboximide) dyes with long secondary alkyl chains
The laser performance and related photophysical properties of two very soluble perylene dyes with long chain secondary alkyl groups were investigated in cyclohexane solution. With a dye laser as pump source a tuning range of 555–580 nm was obtained at an optimum concentration of 3×10–4 M. The quantum efficiencies (=0.29 and 0.21) were better than 1/2 that of rhodamine 6G. No photodegradation was observed over an excitation period of several hours
Bernoulli potential in type-I and weak type-II supercoductors: II. Surface dipole
The Budd-Vannimenus theorem is modified to apply to superconductors in the
Meissner state. The obtained identity links the surface value of the
electrostatic potential to the density of free energy at the surface which
allows one to evaluate the electrostatic potential observed via the capacitive
pickup without the explicit solution of the charge profile.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
