On making choices: some thoughts on an ethnographic film screening

In this paper we describe, analyse and reflect on our first-hand experiences as members of the jury of the Ethnographic Film Screening of the 6th Meeting of the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA), which took place in the University of Coimbra, in June 2016 (http://vicongresso.apantropologia.org/mostra-de-filme-etnografico/). To quote from our call for the ethnographic films, our “simple invitation” was to “show through images how ‘Disputed Futures’ [the topic of the general meeting] mean the diversity of presents and pasts; because the world is made on different rhythms, impulses, desires towards the uncertainty and incompleteness of history.” Our criteria for the film selection process was divided into (1) cinematic quality and originality (cinematography, sound, etc.) and (2) the anthropological character of the films. In the end, we selected 21 out of a total number of 101 films received, among short, medium and feature-length formats. The selection proved a difficult process, raising important issues, namely: was this ‘practical’ division between ‘cinematic quality’ and ‘anthropology’ theoretically (and even empirically) sound? Was it able to overcome the separation between content and form? To what extent were our preferences determined by our different professional backgrounds? Is it possible to assess fairly the ‘ethnographicity’ of such a large number of films, originating from a wide range of geographical and even academic contexts? How did the context of the event – a meeting of anthropologists – impact on our viewings and final choices? Lastly, how did the cinema-going conventions and expectations associated with this kind of film exhibition frame constrain the films’ ‘ethnographicity’? Ultraviolet and Infrared Divergences in Implicit Regularization: a Consistent Approach

Implicit Regularization is a 4-dimensional regularization initially conceived to treat ultraviolet divergences. It has been successfully tested in several instances in the literature, more specifically in those where Dimensional Regularization does not apply. In the present contribution we extend the method to handle infrared divergences as well. We show that the essential steps which rendered Implicit Regularization adequate in the case of ultraviolet divergences have their counterpart for infrared ones. Moreover we show that a new scale appears, typically an infrared scale which is completely independent of the ultraviolet one. Examples are given.Comment: 9 pages, version to appear in Mod. Phys. Sexualidade VS comportamentos de risco

A sexualidade e os comportamentos de risco associados têm uma importância relevante que persiste desde a antiguidade. A percepção desta realidade levou à abordagem desta temática no âmbito da unidade curricular de Promoção e Educação para a Saúde Este trabalho teve como principais objectivos salientar a importância da sexualidade, na saúde e vida das populações, efectuar Promoção Educação para a Saúde e avaliar a ocorrência de comportamentos de risco. O objectivo da aplicação e análise de um IRD, foi avaliar a auto - eficácia das condutas preventivas de DST's. Este, é um estudo transversal, observacional, retrospectivo e quantitativo. A escala usada (Likert) apresenta uma série de cinco opções, cotadas de 1 a 5, das quais o inquirido selecciona apenas uma. No estudo realizado participaram adultos e adolescentes sexualmente activos da cidade de Bragança, A amostra foi constituída por 84 pessoas, das quais 58 do sexo feminino e 26 do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 15 e 45 anos. Para o tratamento estatístico seleccionou-se um conjunto de programas informáticos (SPSS-13.0 for Windows) e testes estatísticos para aceder/concretizar os objectivos definidos. Tendo por base os objectivos deste trabalho, pode concluir-se que é importante alertar as populações, para as consequências dos comportamentos de risco associados à sexualidade, pois, apesar de este tema ser alvo de inúmeras investigações e programas de esclarecimento existem ainda muitas dúvidas acerca desta temática. Em suma há um conjunto de comportamentos promotores de saúde, que reconhecidamente inibem a prevalência dos fenómenos patogénicos pandémicos, e a incidência em populações mais jovens em iniciação de vida sexual
