Twistors, special relativity, conformal symmetry and minimal coupling - a review
An approach to special relativistic dynamics using the language of spinors
and twistors is presented. Exploiting the natural conformally invariant
symplectic structure of the twistor space, a model is constructed which
describes a relativistic massive, spinning and charged particle, minimally
coupled to an external electro-magnetic field. On the two-twistor phase space
the relativistic Hamiltonian dynamics is generated by a Poincare scalar
function obtained from the classical limit (appropriately defined by us) of the
second order, to an external electro-magnetic field minimally coupled, Dirac
operator. In the so defined relativistic classical limit there are no Grassman
variables. Besides, the arising equation that describes dynamics of the
relativistic spin differs significantly from the so called Thomas Bergman

Structured Debriefing and Students\u27 Clinical Judgment Abilities in Simulation
Background Debriefing is a critical component of clinical simulation, yet there are limited studies that demonstrate the outcomes of debriefing on learners\u27 clinical judgment. Method Using the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric, this mixed-method study examined the effects of structured debriefing after 2 clinical simulation experiences on 86 junior-level baccalaureate nursing students\u27 clinical judgment. Debriefing for Meaningful Learning© was the method used for the structured debriefing sessions. Results The mean clinical judgment scores of the intervention group were higher and improved more over time compared with the mean scores of those in the control group; however, the differences were not statistically significant. Conclusions Data generated from focus group interviews suggest that students perceived the structured debriefing sessions as being learner-focused discussions that provided a holistic approach that included a review of knowledge, technical skills, and their reactions and emotions about the learning experiences
Experimental evolution of the coral algal endosymbiont, Cladocopium goreaui: lessons learnt across a decade of stress experiments to enhance coral heat tolerance
Projected increases in sea surface temperatures will exceed corals' ability to withstand heat stress within this century. Experimental evolution of cultured symbionts (Symbiodiniaceae) at high temperatures followed by reintroduction into corals can enhance coral heat tolerance. Several studies have selected for enhanced tolerance in Cladocopium goreaui (C1) over multiple time scales and then compared the performance of coral juveniles infected with the heat-tolerant C1 selected strain (SS) to the performance of juveniles infected with the C1 wild type (WT). To derive lessons about host benefits when symbionts are experimentally selected, here we compare the performance of SS- and WT-juveniles after 21 cell generations of heat selection versus longer periods (73–131) in recently published experiments. After 21 generations, we found rapid improvement in heat tolerance of SS through an overall shift in the mean tolerance to temperature. This did not translate to improved growth and survivorship of the coral. Specifically, survival did not differ significantly between juveniles of Acropora tenuis hosting WT versus SS at any temperature. Juveniles infected with WT exhibited greater skeletal growth than those infected with SS at 27 and 31°C but not at 32.5°C. SS-juvenile symbiont cell densities increased significantly at 27°C relative to SS-juveniles in the 31 and 32.5°C. Photosynthetic efficiencies in SS-juveniles were higher compared to WT-juveniles at 31°C, equal at 27°C, and lower at 32.5°C. These results suggest that selection over longer generation (>130) times will be needed to confer host benefits and will be dependent on the stability of this association being maintained in nature
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Bohm experiment with relativistic massive particles
The EPRB experiment with massive partcles can be formulated if one defines
spin in a relativistic way. Two versions are discussed: The one using the spin
operator defined via the relativistic center-of-mass operator, and the one
using the Pauli-Lubanski vector. Both are shown to lead to the SAME prediction
for the EPRB experiment: The degree of violation of the Bell inequality
DECREASES with growing velocity of the EPR pair of spin-1/2 particles. The
phenomenon can be physically understood as a combined effect of the Lorentz
contraction and the Moller shift of the relativistic center of mass. The effect
is therefore stronger than standard relativistic phenomena such as the Lorentz
contraction or time dilatation. The fact that the Bell inequality is in general
less violated than in the nonrelativistic case will have to be taken into
account in tests for eavesdropping if massive particles will be used for a key

Visualization of bone details in a novel photon-counting dual-source CT scanner—comparison with energy-integrating CT
OBJECTIVES: Photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT) promises a leap in spatial resolution due to smaller detector pixel sizes than implemented in energy-integrating detector CTs (EID-CT). Our objective was to compare the visualization of smallest bone details between PCD-CT and EID-CT using a mouse as a specimen. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two euthanized mice were scanned at a 20-slice EID-CT and a dual-source PCD-CT in single-pixel mode at various CTDI(Vol) values. Image noise and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were evaluated using repeated ROI measurements. Edge sharpness of bones was compared by the maximal slope within CT value plots along sampling lines intersecting predefined bones of the spine. Two readers evaluated bone detail visualization at four regions of the spine on a three-point Likert scale at various CTDI(Vol)’s. Two radiologists selected the series with better detail visualization among each of 20 SNR-matched pairs of EID-CT and PCD-CT series. RESULTS: In CTDI(Vol)-matched scans, PCD-CT series showed significantly lower image noise (Noise(CTDI=5 mGy): 16.27 ± 1.39 vs. 23.46 ± 0.96 HU, p < 0.01), higher SNR (SNR(CTDI=5 mGy): 20.57 ± 1.89 vs. 14.00 ± 0.66, p < 0.01), and higher edge sharpness (Edge Slope(lumbar spine): 981 ± 160 vs. 608 ± 146 HU/mm, p < 0.01) than EID-CT series. Two radiologists considered the delineation of bone details as feasible at consistently lower CTDI(Vol) values at PCD-CT than at EID-CT. In comparison of SNR-matched reconstructions, PCD-CT series were still considered superior in almost all cases. CONCLUSIONS: In this head-to-head comparison, PCD-CT showed superior objective and subjective image quality characteristics over EID-CT for the delineation of tiniest bone details. Even in SNR-matched pairs (acquired at different CTDI(Vol)’s), PCD-CT was strongly preferred by radiologists. KEY POINTS: • In dose-matched scans, photon-counting detector CT series showed significantly less image noise, higher signal-to-noise ratio, and higher edge sharpness than energy-integrating detector CT series. • Human observers considered the delineation of tiny bone details as feasible at much lower dose levels in photon-counting detector CT than in energy-integrating detector CT. • In direct comparison of series matched for signal-to-noise ratio, photon-counting detector CT series were considered superior in almost all cases.
