The Localization Length of Stationary States in the Nonlinear Schreodinger Equation
For the nonlinear Schreodinger equation (NLSE), in presence of disorder,
exponentially localized stationary states are found. In the present Letter it
is demonstrated analytically that the localization length is typically
independent of the strength of the nonlinearity and is identical to the one
found for the corresponding linear equation. The analysis makes use of the
correspondence between the stationary NLSE and the Langevin equation as well as
of the resulting Fokker-Planck equation. The calculations are performed for the
``white noise'' random potential and an exact expression for the exponential
growth of the eigenstates is obtained analytically. It is argued that the main
conclusions are robust
Magnetic Interaction in the Geometrically Frustrated Triangular Lattice Antiferromagnet
The spin wave excitations of the geometrically frustrated triangular lattice
antiferromagnet (TLA) have been measured using high resolution
inelastic neutron scattering. Antiferromagnetic interactions up to third
nearest neighbors in the ab plane (J_1, J_2, J_3, with
and ), as well as out-of-plane coupling (J_z, with
) are required to describe the spin wave dispersion
relations, indicating a three dimensional character of the magnetic
interactions. Two energy dips in the spin wave dispersion occur at the
incommensurate wavevectors associated with multiferroic phase, and can be
interpreted as dynamic precursors to the magnetoelectric behavior in this

Monitoring Cen X-3 with BATSE
The eight uncollimated BATSE Large Area Detectors (LAD's) provide the ability to monitor pulsed hard x ray sources on a nearly continuous basis. Using data from the LAD's, the pulse timing and pulsed flux of the 4.8 second period binary x ray pulsar Centaurus X-3 was analyzed over a two month period. The methods and initial results of this analysis, which includes both data folded onboard GRO and 1.024 second resolution discriminator rates folded on the ground, are presented
Long-term source monitoring with BATSE
The uncollimated Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) large area detectors (LADs) are well suited to nearly continuous monitoring of the stronger hard x-ray sources, and time series analysis for pulsars. An overview of the analysis techniques presently being applied to the data are discussed, including representative observations of the Crab Nebula, Crab pulsar, and summaries of the sources detected to data. Results of a search for variability in the Crab Pulsar pulse profile are presented

The Persistent Southern Disadvantage in Us Early Life Mortality, 1965‒2014
Background: Recent studies of US adult mortality demonstrate a growing disadvantage among southern states. Few studies have examined long-term trends and geographic patterns in US early life (ages 1 to 24) mortality, ages at which key risk factors and causes of death are quite different than among adults. Objective: This article examines trends and variations in early life mortality rates across US states and census divisions. We assess whether those variations have changed over a 50-year time period and which causes of death contribute to contemporary geographic disparities. Methods: We calculate all-cause and cause-specific death rates using death certificate data from the Multiple Cause of Death files, combining public-use files from 1965‒2004 and restricted data with state geographic identifiers from 2005‒2014. State population (denominator) data come from US decennial censuses or intercensal estimates. Results: Results demonstrate a persistent mortality disadvantage for young people (ages 1 to 24) living in southern states over the last 50 years, particularly those located in the East South Central and West South Central divisions. Motor vehicle accidents and homicide by firearm account for most of the contemporary southern disadvantage in US early life mortality. Contribution: Our results illustrate that US children and youth living in the southern United States have long suffered from higher levels of mortality than children and youth living in other parts of the country. Our findings also suggest the contemporary southern disadvantage in US early life mortality could potentially be reduced with state-level policies designed to prevent deaths involving motor vehicles and firearms
Magnetic properties of the S=1/2 quasi square lattice antiferromagnet CuF2(H2O)2(pyz) (pyz=pyrazine) investigated by neutron scattering
We have performed elastic and inelastic neutron experiments on single crystal
samples of the coordination polymer compound CuF2(H2O)2(pyz) (pyz=pyrazine) to
study the magnetic structure and excitations. The elastic neutron diffraction
measurements indicate a collinear antiferromagnetic structure with moments
oriented along the [0.7 0 1] real-space direction and an ordered moment of 0.60
+/- 0.03 muB/Cu. This value is significantly smaller than the single ion
magnetic moment, reflecting the presence of strong quantum fluctuations. The
spin wave dispersion from magnetic zone center to the zone boundary points (0.5
1.5 0) and (0.5 0 1.5) can be described by a two dimensional Heisenberg model
with a nearest neighbor magnetic exchange constant J2d = 0.934 +/-0.0025 meV.
The inter-layer interaction Jperp in this compound is less than 1.5% of J2d.
The spin excitation energy at the (0.5 0.5 0.5) zone boundary point is reduced
when compared to the (0.5 1 0.5) zone boundary point by ~10.3 +/- 1.4 %. This
zone boundary dispersion is consistent with quantum Monte Carlo and series
expansion calculations which include corrections for quantum fluctuations to
linear spin wave theory.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Spin and charge excitations in incommensurate spin density waves
Collective excitations both for spin- and charge-channels are investigated in
incommensurate spin density wave (or stripe) states on two-dimensional Hubbard
model. By random phase approximation, the dynamical susceptibility
\chi(q,\omega) is calculated for full range of (q,\omega) with including all
higher harmonics components. An intricate landscape of the spectra in
\chi(q,\omega) is obtained. We discuss the anisotropy of the dispersion cones
for spin wave excitations, and for the phason excitation related to the motion
of the stripe line. Inelastic neutron experiments on Cr and its alloys and
stripe states of underdoped cuprates are proposed
