Piezoelectric and optical setup to measure an electrical field: Application to the longitudinal near-field generated by a tapered coax
We propose a new setup to measure an electrical field in one direction. This
setup is made of a piezoelectric sintered lead zinconate titanate film and an
optical interferometric probe. We used this setup to investigate how the shape
of the extremity of a coaxial cable influences the longitudinal electrical
near-field generated by it. For this application, we designed our setup to have
a spatial resolution of 100 um in the direction of the electrical field.

Modification of Tillage Implements for Alley Cropping System
Sustainable alley agriculture in the agro-forestry cropping system becomes a great challenge due to the lack of suitable land preparation, using the conventional tillage system âThe three-bottom disc ploughâ. This research is an attempt to modify the conventional tillage implement for better use in agroforestry system. The modified Tillage System, in comparison with 3-bottom disc plough, showed significantly lower tractor actual speed, higher wheel slippage, effective field capacity and higher draught requirements. For the secondary operations, no significant differences were detected between modified tandem and the offset disc harrow, except for the tractor actual speed, where the offset disc harrow resulted in significant higher speed. Moreover, the modified tillage implements shows lower un-ploughed length area within the alley, and two meters increase in the preparation of the available cultivated area compared to the conventional system, and significantly lower bulk density at crop emergence stage only. The modified implements resulted in higher initial and final infiltration rate after seedbed preparation and at harvest in comparison with the conventional system. With regards to crop yield, the modified tillage system resulted in significant higher grain yield in the first and second seasons, in comparison with the use of the conventional tillage system. Time variations in the deep underground muon flux measured by MACRO
More than 30 million of high-energy muons collected with the MACRO detector
at the underground Gran Sasso Laboratory have been used to search for flux
variations of different natures. Two kinds of studies were carried out: search
for periodic variations and for the occurrence of clusters of events. Different
analysis methods, including Lomb-Scargle spectral analysis and Scan Test

Etude épidémiologique et clinique des détresses respiratoires aigues chez les enfants ùgés de 1 à 59 mois admis dans le service des urgences pédiatriques au CHU Gabriel Toure
Introduction : Les dĂ©tresses respiratoires sont une cause majeure de morbiditĂ© et de mortalitĂ© en pĂ©diatrie ; lâobjectif de notre Ă©tude Ă©tait dâĂ©tudier les aspects Ă©pidemiocliniques des dĂ©tresses respiratoires chez les enfants ĂągĂ©s de 1 Ă 59 mois dans le service de pĂ©diatrie de CHU. MĂ©thodologie : Il sâagit dâune Ă©tude transversale descriptive sur douze mois du 1er au 31 dĂ©cembre 2012 au service de pĂ©diatrie du CHU Gabriel TourĂ© Bamako Mali. Tous les enfants de 1 Ă 59 mois prĂ©sentant une dĂ©tresse respiratoire ont Ă©tĂ© inclus.
RĂ©sultats : Ainsi 678 dossiers dâenfants en dĂ©tresse respiratoire sur un total de 2241 hospitalisĂ©s en pĂ©diatrie ont Ă©tĂ© analysĂ©s soit un taux dâadmission de 30,25%. 64,75% des enfants avaient un Ăąge compris entre 1 et 11 mois. Le sex-ratio Ă©tait de 1,38 en faveur des garçons; les signes de lutte respiratoire (battement des ailes du nez, tirage intercostal et le geignement) Ă©taient prĂ©sents dans 96,22%. La pathologie pulmonaire la plus frĂ©quente Ă©tait la pneumonie (68,36%) celle extra-pulmonaire Ă©tait le paludisme grave (11,80%). Le taux de mortalitĂ© Ă©tait de 20,65%.
Conclusion : les détresses respiratoires restent une importante cause de mortalité du nourrisson dans notre contexte avec des problÚmes majeurs de prise en charg
Fragmentation studies of 158 A GeV Pb ions using CR39 nuclear track detectors
Six stacks of CR39 nuclear track detectors with different targets were exposed to a lead ion beam of 158 A GeV at the CERN-SPS, at normal incidence, in order to study the fragmentation properties of ultra-relativistic lead nuclei. Measurements of the total, break-up and pick-up charge-changing cross sections of 158 A GeV Pb ions have been made for the first time
