Evaluation of an online tool about the expected course of disease for glioblastoma patients - A qualitative study

BACKGROUND: Patients with glioblastoma have a short life-expectancy, with median survival rates of 9 to 12 months. Providing information about the expected course of the disease can be complicated. Therefore, an online tool has been developed. The objective of this tool is to better inform patients and proxies, and decrease their uncertainties and improve their quality of life. This study aims to gather experiences of an initial cohort of patient-proxy dyads, to identify if the tool meets the previously mentioned objectives. METHODS: This is a qualitative study based on thematic analysis. Interviews were conducted with 15 patient-proxy dyads. For these interviews, a combined method of think-aloud sessions and semi-structured interviews were used. Audiotapes of these interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed. RESULTS: The analysis revealed four major themes, namely, unmet information needs, improvement possibilities, effects of the tool and clinical implementation. Participants indicated that this tool could decrease uncertainties and increase their perceived quality of life. Also, they often mentioned that it could have a positive effect on the efficiency and quality of consultations. CONCLUSION: Participants considered this tool to be useful and effective in decreasing uncertainties for both patients with glioblastoma and their proxies. Moreover, participants brought up that this tool could positively influence the efficiency and quality of consultations. This could lead to more patient participation and empowerment, and could therefore enhance shared decision making and timely advanced care planning

Over de visteeltsector wordt niet gerapporteerd vanwege gebrek aan actuele gege-vens. This annual report on Dutch fisheries contains data on the business results and the financial position of cutter fishing in 2007 and an outlook for 2008, with comparative figures from previous years. Alongside the economic data of cutter fishing, results of large-scale high sea fishing, mollusc culture, oyster culture and developments in foreign trade of fishery products are also examined. The aquaculture sector is not examined due to lack of information about the sector

Modelling learning for a better safety culture within an organization using a virtual safety coach:Reducing the risk of postpartum depression via improved communication with parents

This paper describes an extension of a safety culture within hospital organizations providing more transparency and acknowledgement of all actors, and in particular the parents. It contributes a model architecture to support a hospital to develop such an extended safety culture. It is illustrated for prevention of postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is a commonly known consequence of childbirth for both mothers and fathers. In this research, we computationally analyze the risk factors and lack of support received by fathers. Therefore, we use shared mental models to model the effects of poor and additional communication by healthcare practitioners to mitigate the development of postpartum depression in both the mother and the father. Both individual mental models and shared mental models are considered in the design of the computational model. The paper illustrates the benefits of simple support in terms of communication during childbirth, which has lasting effects, even outside the hospital. For the impact of additional communication, a Virtual Safety Coach is designed that intervenes when necessary to provide support, i.e., when a health care practitioner doesn't. Naast de bedrijfseconomische gegevens van de kottervisserij wordt ook ingegaan op uitkomsten van de overige kleine zeevisserijvloot, op resultaten van de grote zeevisserij, de mosselcultuur en de oestersector en daarnaast ook op ontwikkelingen in de handel in visproducten met het buitenland. Over de visteeltsector wordt niet gerapporteerd vanwege gebrek aan actuele gegevens. This annual report about Dutch fisheries contains data about the business results and financial position of cutter fisheries in 2008, with estimates for 2009 and comparative figures from previous years. Besides economic data relating to cutter fisheries, the report also studies the net results of the other small high seas fishing fleet, the results of large high seas fisheries, mussel farming and the oyster sector, as well as developments in international trade in fish products. The report does not address the fish farming sector due to lack of current data
