    Combination of Tevatron searches for the standard model Higgs boson in the W+W- decay mode

    Report number: FERMILAB-PUB-10-017-EWe combine searches by the CDF and D0 collaborations for a Higgs boson decaying to W+W-. The data correspond to an integrated total luminosity of 4.8 (CDF) and 5.4 (D0) fb-1 of p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No excess is observed above background expectation, and resulting limits on Higgs boson production exclude a standard-model Higgs boson in the mass range 162-166 GeV at the 95% C.L.We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for a Higgs boson decaying to W+W-.     Search for R-parity Violating Decays of tau Sneutrinos to emu, mutau, and etau Pairs in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV

Lett.We present a search for tau sneutrino production using the Tevatron ppbar collision data collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb^-1. We focus on the scenarios predicted by the R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric models in which tau sneutrinos decay to two charged leptons of different flavor. With the data consistent with the standard model expectations, we set the upper limits on sigma(ppbar -> tau sneutrino)*BR(tau sneutrino ->emu,mutau,etau) and use these results to constrain the RPV couplings as a function of tau sneutrino mass.We present a search for supersymmetric neutrino ν˜ production using the Tevatron pp̅ collision data collected with the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1  fb-1.     Search for the Decays B(s)0→e+μ−{B^0_{(s)}\to e^+\mu^-} and B(s)0→e+e−{B^0_{(s)}\to e^+e^-} in CDF Run II

    submitted to PRLWe report results from a search for the lepton flavor violating decays B(s)0→e+μ−B^0_{(s)}\to e^+\mu^-, and the flavor-changing neutral-current decays B(s)0→e+e−B^0_{(s)} \to e^+ e^-. The analysis uses data corresponding to 2fb−1{\rm 2 fb^{-1}} of integrated luminosity of ppˉp \bar{p} collisions at s=1.96TeV\sqrt{s}=1.96 {\rm TeV} collected with the upgraded Collider Detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron. The observed number of B(s)0B^0_{(s)} candidates is consistent with background expectations. The resulting Bayesian upper limits on the branching ratios at 90% credibility level are B(Bs0→e+μ−)e+μ−)e+μ−)47.8TeV/c2\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \to e^{+}\mu^{-}) e^{+}\mu^{-})e^{+}\mu^{-}) 47.8 {\rm TeV/c^2}, and MLQ(B0→e+μ−)>59.3TeV/c2{M_{LQ}}(B^0\to e^+ \mu^-) > 59.3 {\rm TeV/c^2}, at 90% credibility level.We report results from a search for the lepton flavor violating decays Bs0→e+μ- and B0→e+μ-, and the flavor-changing neutral-current decays Bs0→e+e- and B0→e+e-.     Evidence for non-exponential elastic proton proton differential cross-section at low vertical bar t vertical bar and √ s = 8 TeV by TOTEM

    The TOTEM experiment has made a precise measurement of the elastic proton proton differential cross-section at the centre-of-mass energy root s = 8 TeV based on a high-statistics data sample obtained with the beta* = 90 m optics. Both the statistical and systematic uncertainties remain below 1%, except for the t-independent contribution from the overall normalisation. This unprecedented precision allows to exclude a purely exponential differential cross-section in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.027 <vertical bar t vertical bar <0.2 GeV2 with a significance greater than 7 sigma. Two extended parametrisations, with quadratic and cubic polynomials in the exponent, are shown to be well compatible with the data. Using them for the differential cross-section extrapolation to t = 0, and further applying the optical theorem, yields total cross-section estimates of (101.5 +/- 2.1) mb and (101.9 +/- 2.1) mb, respectively, in agreement with previous TOTEM measurements.     Diffraction and Total Cross-Section at the Tevatron and the LHC

    At the Tevatron, the total p_bar-p cross-section has been measured by CDF at 546 GeV and 1.8 TeV, and by E710/E811 at 1.8 TeV. The two results at 1.8 TeV disagree by 2.6 standard deviations, introducing big uncertainties into extrapolations to higher energies. At the LHC, the TOTEM collaboration is preparing to resolve the ambiguity by measuring the total p-p cross-section with a precision of about 1 %. Like at the Tevatron experiments, the luminosity-independent method based on the Optical Theorem will be used. The Tevatron experiments have also performed a vast range of studies about soft and hard diffractive events, partly with antiproton tagging by Roman Pots, partly with rapidity gap tagging. At the LHC, the combined CMS/TOTEM experiments will carry out their diffractive programme with an unprecedented rapidity coverage and Roman Pot spectrometers on both sides of the interaction point. The physics menu comprises detailed studies of soft diffractive differential cross-sections, diffractive structure functions, rapidity gap survival and exclusive central production by Double Pomeron Exchange.Peer reviewe

    Higher harmonic non-linear flow modes of charged hadrons in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV

    Anisotropic flow coefficients, nu(n), non-linear flow mode coefficients, chi(n,mk), and correlations among different symmetry planes, rho(n,mk) are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02TeV. Results obtained with multi-particle correlations are reported for the transverse momentum interval 0.2 <p(T) <5.0 GeV/c within the pseudorapidity interval 0.4 <vertical bar eta vertical bar <0.8 as a function of collision centrality. The nu(n) coefficients and chi(n,mk) and rho(n,mk) are presented up to the ninth and seventh harmonic order, respectively. Calculations suggest that the correlations measured in different symmetry planes and the non-linear flow mode coefficients are dependent on the shear and bulk viscosity to entropy ratios of the medium created in heavy-ion collisions. The comparison between these measurements and those at lower energies and calculations from hydrodynamic models places strong constraints on the initial conditions and transport properties of the system.Peer reviewe

    Measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays in p-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV

    The production of beauty hadrons was measured via semi-leptonic decays at mid-rapidity with the ALICE detector at the LHC in the transverse momentum interval 1 <PT <8 GeV/c in minimum-bias p-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 5.02 TeV and in 1.3 <PT <8 GeV/c in the 20% most central Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 2.76 TeV. The pp reference spectra at root s = 5.02 TeV and root s = 2.76 TeV, needed for the calculation of the nuclear modification factors RpPb and R-PbPb, were obtained by a pQCD-driven scaling of the cross section of electrons from beauty-hadron decays measured at root s = 7 TeV. In the PT interval 3 <PT <8 GeV/c, a suppression of the yield of electrons from beauty-hadron decays is observed in Pb-Pb compared to pp collisions. Towards lower PT, the R-PbPb values increase with large systematic uncertainties. The R-ppb is consistent with unity within systematic uncertainties and is well described by theoretical calculations that include cold nuclear matter effects in p-Pb collisions. The measured R-pPb and these calculations indicate that cold nuclear matter effects are small at high transverse momentum also in Pb-Pb collisions. Therefore, the observed reduction of R-PbPb below unity at high PT may be ascribed to an effect of the hot and dense medium formed in Pb-Pb collisions.Peer reviewe
