    A function space model for canonical systems

    Recently, a generalization to the Pontryagin space setting of the notion of canonical (Hamiltonian) systems which involves a finite number of inner singularities has been given. The spectral theory of indefinite canonical systems was investigated with help of an operator model. This model consists of a Pontryagin space boundary triple and was constructed in an abstract way. Moreover, the construction of this operator model involves a procedure of splitting-and-pasting which is technical but at the present stage of development in general inevitable. In this paper we provide an isomorphic form of this operator model which acts in a finite-dimensional extension of a function space naturally associated with the given indefinite canonical system. We give explicit formulae for the model operator and the boundary relation. Moreover, we show that under certain asymptotic hypotheses the procedure of splitting-and-pasting can be avoided by employing a limiting process. We restrict attention to the case of one singularity. This is the core of the theory, and by making this restriction we can significantly reduce the technical effort without losing sight of the essential ideas

    Search for supersymmetry in events with two leptons including a tau

    Searches for new physics in events with hadronic jets, missing transverse energy, and two leptons of which at least one is a hadronically decaying tau are presented. The result is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 \fbi at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC.     There is an increasing demand for bone graft substitutes that are used as osteoconductive scaffolds in the treatment of bone defects and fractures. Achieving optimal bone regeneration requires initial cell seeding of the scaffolds prior to implantation. The cell seeding chamber is a closed assembly. It works like a sandglass. The position of the scaffold is between two reservoirs containing the fluid (e. g. blood). The fluid at the upper reservoir flows through the scaffold driven by gravity. Fluid is collected at the lower reservoir. If the upper reservoir is empty the whole assembly turned and the process starts again. A new compact cell seeding chamber for initial cell seeding has been developed that can be used in the operating theater

    Sensemaking Practices in the Everyday Work of AI/ML Software Engineering

    This paper considers sensemaking as it relates to everyday software engineering (SE) work practices and draws on a multi-year ethnographic study of SE projects at a large, global technology company building digital services infused with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities. Our findings highlight the breadth of sensemaking practices in AI/ML projects, noting developers' efforts to make sense of AI/ML environments (e.g., algorithms/methods and libraries), of AI/ML model ecosystems (e.g., pre-trained models and "upstream"models), and of business-AI relations (e.g., how the AI/ML service relates to the domain context and business problem at hand). This paper builds on recent scholarship drawing attention to the integral role of sensemaking in everyday SE practices by empirically investigating how and in what ways AI/ML projects present software teams with emergent sensemaking requirements and opportunities

    Spleen findings in drowning

    A retrospective study of spleen findings in 42 victims of drowning and a comparison group of 42 cases of asphyxiation due to other causes (hanging, ligature strangulation and manual strangulation), that were matched for sex, age, body weight and build, was performed. Significantly smaller spleen weights (P < 0.05), spleen weight:body weight ratios (P < 0.01) and spleen weight:liver weight ratios (P < 0.01) were found in the victims of drowning. The difference in weight was 18%. A significant negative correlation between spleen weight and blood alcohol concentration was found in the study group (r = −0.44; P < 0.01), but not in the control group. The possibility that the findings are due to a stress reaction caused by hypoxia in the presence of cooling and an influence of alcohol on reflex mechanisms is discussed
