Charge orders, magnetism and pairings in the cuprate superconductors
We review the recent developments in the field of cuprate superconductors
with the special focus on the recently observed charge order in the underdoped
compounds. We introduce new theoretical developments following the study of the
antiferromagnetic (AF) quantum critical point (QCP) in two dimensions, in which
preemptive orders in the charge and superconducting (SC) sectors emerged, that
are in turn related by an SU(2) symmetry. We consider the implications of this
proliferation of orders in the underdoped region, and provide a study of the
type of fluctuations which characterize the SU(2) symmetry. We identify an
intermediate energy scale where the SU(2) pairing fluctuations are dominant and
argue that they are unstable towards the formation of a Resonant Peierls
Excitonic (RPE) state at the pseudogap (PG) temperature . We discuss the
implications of this scenario for a few key experiments.Comment: 16 pages, 17 figure
The photometry of hollow light guides
Dieser Beitrag ist mit Zustimmung des Rechteinhabers aufgrund einer (DFG geförderten) Allianz- bzw. Nationallizenz frei zugänglich. This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively.Light-pipes described in this paper guide light along an axis allowing it to escape from its surface for illumination purposes. Light is coupled into them by a beamer luminaire. The performance of a hollow light guide very much depends on the quality of the materials used to guide the light. The luminous characteristics of these materials influence a light-pipe’s overall performance. The first section of this paper describes measurement techniques for light incidence resolved measurements on materials. Common co-ordinate systems for describing the geometry and a data format to store the data are shown. The second section of this paper deals with light-pipe goniophotometry. A goniophotometer for light-pipes has been constructed at the Technical University of Berlin. To evaluate the results measurements are compared to these from a real installation
Constraining the Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment
The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on "Constraining the hadronic
contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment" which included the "13th
meeting of the Radio MonteCarLow WG" and the "Satellite meeting R-Measurements
at BES-III" held in Trento from April 10th to 12th, 2013, are presented. This
collaboration meeting aims to bring together the experimental e+e- collider
communities from BaBar, Belle, BESIII, CMD2, KLOE, and SND, with theorists
working in the fields of meson transitions form factors, hadronic contributions
to (g-2)_\mu and effective fine structure constant, and development of Monte
Carlo generator and Radiative Corrections for precision e+e- and tau physics.Comment: 45 pages, 17 contributions. Editors: P. Masjuan and G. Venanzon
Intracranial internal carotid aneurysm causing diplopia
Internal carotid intracranial aneurysms are a relatively rare form of intracranial aneurysm that presents with diplopia, retro-orbital pain and unilateral headaches. The symptoms are progressive and the diagnosis should be considered in a patient presenting with these complaints. Underlying hypertension and advanced age are specific risk factors
The nature of iron-oxygen vacancy defect centers in PbTiO3
The iron(III) center in ferroelectric PbTiO3 together with an oxygen vacancy
forms a charged defect associate, oriented along the crystallographic c-axis.
Its microscopic structure has been analyzed in detail comparing results from a
semi-empirical Newman superposition model analysis based on finestructure data
and from calculations using density functional theory.
Both methods give evidence for a substitution of Fe3+ for Ti4+ as an acceptor
center. The position of the iron ion in the ferroelectric phase is found to be
similar to the B-site in the paraelectric phase. Partial charge compensation is
locally provided by a directly coordinated oxygen vacancy.
Using high-resolution synchrotron powder diffraction, it was verified that
lead titanate remains tetragonal down to 12 K, exhibiting a c/a-ratio of

Impact of Quantitative Information and a Nudge on Attitudes toward Colorectal Cancer Screening
Research in behavioral economics suggests that individuals facing complex decisions benefit from being given a “nudge” towards one option, especially in situations where making any choice, as opposed to none, is preferred. Decisions about colorectal cancer (CRC) screening are of this type, since several tests are recommended by guidelines, including colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and stool testing. No studies have examined the use of a nudge in the context of CRC screening. In this study, we compared the effects of two different approaches to providing quantitative information about CRC risk and benefits of screening, one with and one without a nudge towards fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) (a stool test)
Плазменное получение тепловой энергии из сульфатного лигнина
This article shows an overview and analysis of the literature on methods of using sludge lignin. This product obtained after treatment of pulp. As a result of calculating the optimum composition of water, organic materials with mechanical impurities from the adiabatic combustion temperature of about 1200 K were determined. Using the obtained results of experimental studies have been carried out in a plasma reactor of the catalytic reactor and has been optimized. The obtained results can be used to create industrial enterprises based on plasma catalytic reactors for waste sludge lignin for the purpose of obtaining heat
Perforated Meckel diverticulum
Perforation of a Meckel diverticulum (MD) is a rare complication that can often mimic appendicitis. This case report identifies a child who presented to our Emergency Department (ED) with right lower quadrant abdominal pain, free fluid and air in the abdomen and pelvis, and inflammatory changes visualized on Ultrasonography (US) and computer tomography (CT) scan. In our patient, ruptured appendicitis was suspected, and the diagnosis of ruptured MD was ultimately made by laparoscopy. This case demonstrates that a healthy degree of suspicion for complicated MD should be present when dealing with a questionable diagnosis of appendicitis, particularly in the pediatric population
