Universal behavior of localization of residue fluctuations in globular proteins
Localization properties of residue fluctuations in globular proteins are
studied theoretically by using the Gaussian network model. Participation ratio
for each residue fluctuation mode is calculated. It is found that the
relationship between participation ratio and frequency is similar for all
globular proteins, indicating a universal behavior in spite of their different
size, shape, and architecture.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
On Strongly F – Regular Modules and Strongly Pure Intersection Property
A submoduleA of amodule M is said to be strongly pure , if for each finite subset {ai} in A , (equivalently, for each a ?A) there exists ahomomorphism f : M ?A such that f(ai) = ai, ?i(f(a)=a).A module M is said to be strongly F–regular if each submodule of M is strongly pure .The main purpose of this paper is to develop the properties of strongly F–regular modules and study modules with the property that the intersection of any two strongly pure submodules is strongly pure
Posterior pole asymmetry analysis and retinal thickness measurements in young relatives of glaucoma patients
The presence of a family history of glaucoma is a known risk factor for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in middle-aged and older individuals. In this study, our aim was to demonstrate possible early glaucomatous alterations in young first- and second-degree relatives of POAG patients by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. A total of 104 participants (52 relatives of POAG patients and 52 healthy individuals) were recruited in this cross-sectional study. All the participants were between 17 years and 45 years of age. All eyes underwent testing with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, hemifield macular thickness, macular ganglion cell complex thickness, posterior pole asymmetry analysis, and retinal arteriolar caliber measurements were taken for comparison between the study and control groups. The mean peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness was 104.9 ± 8.8 μm in the study group and 105.6 ± 7.4 μm in the control group (p = 0.68). Although whole macular thickness measurements were higher in the control group when compared with the study group (p = 0.008), the macular ganglion cell complex thickness was similar in both groups (p = 0.87). The posterior pole asymmetry analysis revealed no statistically significant difference between the groups in the aspect of consecutive black squares (p = 0.79). The mean retinal arteriolar caliber was 85.9 ± 4.8 μm in the study group and 86.0 ± 5.0 μm in the control group (p = 0.90). In conclusion, young relatives of POAG patients do not show characteristic glaucomatous damage when compared with the controls. © 2015, Kaohsiung Medical University. Published by Elsevier Taiwan LLC. Remote Sensing Analysis Using Landsat 8 Data for Lithological Mapping - a Case Study in Mount Penanggungan, East Java, Indonesia
¾ Mount Penanggungan is one of the volcanoes that located in East Java Province, Indonesia, with the current status is a sleeping volcano. Although Mount Penanggungan is not active, it still make an interesting investigation in geological survey, especially to identify the lithological units, due that less researchers took place in Mount Penanggungan. Geological survey and investigaton can describes the information about physically condition of some land or region, with the result is Lithological Map of Mount Penanggungan. Remote sensing imagery, such as Landsat 8 Satellite imagery data series has been used widely in geology for mapping lithology in general. Remote sensing provides information of the properties of the surface exploration targets that is potential in mapping lithological units. Remote sensing technique are one of the standard procedures in exploration geology, due to it is high efficiency and low cost. Lithological mapping in Mount Penanggungan area is carried out by using Landsat 8 Satellite imagery data with image enhancement techniques, including RGB (red, green, blue) band composite, and combine it with Indonesian Surface Map data that will makes an existing Lithological Map of Mount Penanggungan. The results of this study showed the distribution of the lithological units in Mount Penanggungan, which the units are; vulcanic breccia, tuff breccia, and andesitic lava
Anharmonicity and self-similarity of the free energy landscape of protein G
The near-native free energy landscape of protein G is investigated through
0.4 microseconds-long atomistic molecular dynamics simulations in explicit
solvent. A theoretical and computational framework is used to assess the
time-dependence of salient thermodynamical features. While the quasi-harmonic
character of the free energy is found to degrade in a few ns, the slow modes
display a very mild dependence on the trajectory duration. This property
originates from a striking self-similarity of the free energy landscape
embodied by the consistency of the principal directions of the local minima,
where the system dwells for several ns, and of the virtual jumps connecting
them.Comment: revtex, 6 pages, 5 figure
Maturation Dynamics of Bacteriophage HK97 Capsid
SummaryMaturation of the bacteriophage HK97 capsid requires a large conformational change of the virus capsid. Experimental studies have identified several intermediates along this maturation pathway. To gain insights into the molecular mechanisms of capsid maturation, we examined the fluctuation dynamics of the procapsid and mature capsid using a residue-level computational approach. The most cooperative motions of the procapsid are found to be consistent with the observed change in configuration that takes place during maturation. A few dominant modes of motion are sufficient to describe the anisotropic expansion that accompanies maturation. Based upon these modes, maturation is proposed to occur via an overall expansion and reconfiguration of the capsid initiated by puckering of the pentamers, followed by flattening and crosslinking of the hexameric subunits, and finally crosslinking of the pentameric subunits. The highly mobile E loops are stabilized by anchoring to highly stable residues belonging to neighboring subunits
