    An application of Hoffman graphs for spectral characterizations of graphs

    In this paper, we present the first application of Hoffman graphs for spectral characterizations of graphs. In particular, we show that the 22-clique extension of the (t+1)×(t+1)(t+1)\times(t+1)-grid is determined by its spectrum when tt is large enough. This result will help to show that the Grassmann graph J2(2D,D)J_2(2D,D) is determined by its intersection numbers as a distance regular graph, if DD is large enough

    Attitudes toward Marriage, Divorce, Cohabitation, and Casual Sex among Working-Age Latinos: Does Religion Matter?

    The rapid growth of the Latino population in the United States has renewed interest in Latino family research. It has often been assumed that Catholicism is a key factor influencing Latinos’ attitudes toward the family, despite the fact that nearly one third of Latinos are not Catholic. This article uses data from the 2006 National Survey of Religion and Family Life, a survey of working-age adults (aged 18-59 years) in the lower 48 states, to explore the relationship between multiple dimensions of religiosity—denomination, church attendance, prayer, and beliefs about the Bible—and Latinos’ attitudes regarding marriage, divorce, cohabitation, and casual sex. Compared with Catholics, evangelical Protestants tend to hold more conservative attitudes on family-related issues. Latinos who attend services regularly and pray frequently also report more traditional views. Findings involving literalist views of the Bible are more equivocal. Taken together, religious variables are just as potent as socioeconomic and demographic factors in explaining individual-level variation in Latinos’ attitudes. Study limitations are noted, and several directions for future research are identified

    Scaling Behavior of Ricci Curvature at Short Distance near Two Dimensions

    We study the renormalization of the Ricci curvature as an example of generally covariant operators in quantum gravity near two dimensions. We find that it scales with a definite scaling dimension at short distance. The Ricci curvature singularity at the big bang can be viewed as such a scaling phenomenon. The problem of the spacetime singularity may be resolved by the scale invariance of the spacetime at short distance.Comment: 9pages, LaTe

    This research examines the success of stabilization policies to control hyperinflation in Bolivia. Money demand functions for the hyperinflation and stabilization periods were econometrically estimated and statistically tested. We conclude that the demand for money in Bolivia changed after stabilization policies were implemented, indicating that the new government's objectives were met.     Alternatively activated macrophages promote pancreatic fibrosis in chronic pancreatitis.

    Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive and irreversible inflammatory and fibrotic disease with no cure. Unlike acute pancreatitis (AP), we find that alternatively activated macrophages (AAMs) are dominant in mouse and human CP. AAMs are dependent on interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 signalling, and we show that mice lacking IL-4Rα, myeloid-specific IL-4Rα and IL-4/IL-13 were less susceptible to pancreatic fibrosis. Furthermore, we demonstrate that mouse and human pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) are a source of IL-4/IL-13. Notably, we show that pharmacologic inhibition of IL-4/IL-13 in human ex vivo studies as well as in established mouse CP decreases pancreatic AAMs and fibrosis. We identify a critical role for macrophages in pancreatic fibrosis and in turn PSCs as important inducers of macrophage-alternative activation. Our study challenges and identifies pathways involved in crosstalk between macrophages and PSCs that can be targeted to reverse or halt pancreatic fibrosis progression

    Analytics on malicious android applications

    The widespread of mobile applications has led to increase smartphone malware. Detecting malware requires extracting features to determine the malware apps from non-malware apps. To understand malware apps' features, we need a better understanding of the requested permissions in manifest file of apk file. In this paper, we present our framework based on extracting apk's permissions with the aims to detect the malware upon granted permissions in mobile app. The permissions keywords are extracted from the manifest file of apk file using VirusTotal website. These collected applications and their permissions keywords will go through pre-data analytics process before being trained to various machine learning classifiers. We collected around 30 apps from Google play as non-malware apps and 30 malicious apps from different sources such as PROGuard, Contagio Mobile blog and the Drebin dataset. The permissions keywords of the collected apk are extracted and saved to build final dataset that contains 50 samples of benign and malignant applications with the final collections of permissions keywords. Finally, the dataset is fed to machine learning. By utilizing several classifiers such as NaiveBayes, sequential minimal optimization (SMO), Decision Table, ZeroR and Decision trees (J48 and Random Forests, the results show that sequential minimal optimization (SMO) classifier achieved high performance in the detection rate of the classifier with an acceptable accuracy of 76 %
