Tectonic evolution of the Rehamna metamorphic dome (Morocco) in the context of the Alleghanian-Variscan orogeny

Structural and 40Ar/39Ar geochronological investigations of the Rehamna Massif (Meseta, Moroccan Variscan belt) provide new constraints on the tectonic evolution of the Alleghanian-Variscan orogen during the Upper Paleozoic. Three main tectonic events have been recognized: (1) Southward thrusting of an Ordovician sequence over the Proterozoic basement, its Cambrian sedimentary cover, and the overlying Devono-Carboniferous basin. This event caused subhorizontal shearing and prograde Barrovian metamorphism of the buried rocks. (2) Continuous shortening resulting in the development of a synconvergent extrusion of metamorphosed units to form a dome elongated E-W. This was responsible for synconvergent detachment of the Ordovician upper crustal sequence. The timing of these two episodes is constrained to 310–295 Ma by cooling and metamorphic amphibole and mica ages (3) A NW-WNW convergence in a direction orthogonal to the previous one and characterized by the accretion of the Rehamna dome to the continental basement in the east. Based on 40Ar/39Ar cooling ages from a syntectonic granitoid and its host rocks and metamorphic 40Ar/39Ar ages from greenschist facies mylonite, the timing of this event falls between 295 and 280 Ma. The end of the Variscan orogeny in the Moroccan Meseta is constrained by the 40Ar/39Ar cooling age of a posttectonic pluton dated at ~275 Ma. The tectonic events highlighted in Morocco coincide with the late Variscan-Alleghanian tectonic evolution of southern Europe and North America and can be correlated with the global reorganization of plates that accompanied suturing of Pangaea at around 295 Ma.Peer reviewe

Too much “comprehension”, too exhaustive an analysis, too many guides, scaffolds and safety nets will often lead to a translation that is, though possibly faultless on an academic level, wooden and devoid of life, thus not a translation but an explanation. Some of the spirit of adventure which gave life to the original text should be retained during the translation process.Trop de «compréhension», une analyse trop approfondie, trop d’échafaudage et de filets de sécurité conduisent souvent à une traduction qui, bien que peut-être sans faute au sens universitaire, est raide et sans vie, davantage une explication qu’une traduction. Traduire les « Blue Devils » ou le double-bind du traducteur

Dans le premier chapitre de Mardi Herman Melville écrit qu’il est « […] pining for some one who could page me a quotation from Burton on Blue devils ! »Ce qui donne en français (traduction Rose Celli) : « [Je] soupirais après un homme qui pût me citer un passage de Burton sur les Démons bleus ! » ou (traduction Charles Cestre) : « moi qui aurais voulu discuter de quelques bons livres ». L’ombilicalité du traducteur

L’ombilicalité, mot inventé par Thomas Browne pour décrire un état intime, convergeant vers la cohérence parfaite entre un être humain et Dieu peut être considérée comme l’état vers lequel devrait chercher à tendre le traducteur. Encore faut-il savoir où et quand, sur la courbe entre la langue source et la langue cible, entre l’auteur et l’éditeur de la traduction, le traducteur doit préserver ce lien, comment, vibrionnant entre ces deux aimants, il doit accepter l’inévitable double-bind de son travail d’artisan.Umbilicality, a word coined by Thomas Browne to describe an intimate conjunction tending towards a perfect coherence between a human being and God, may be considered as the state towards which every translator should tend. Entrelacs franco-irlandais

Ce volume célèbre la rencontre des cultures irlandaise et française. Il met l’accent sur la richesse et la variété des échanges qui se sont déployés sous formes de lectures et d’écritures croisées, et ce jusqu’à l’époque moderne. On trouve dans cet ouvrage un écho des entrelacs multiples sur lesquels plusieurs auteurs apportent des regards critiques, en mettant l’accent sur les enrichissements réciproques qui se sont opérés. Les rencontres évoquées renvoient à des champs pluriels, incluant la littérature, l’histoire de la pensée, et même l’histoire des théories économiques. Le champ d’exploration retenu ne se limite pas à la période contemporaine, mais inclut des regards posés sur le passé. Malgré les décalages, les hiatus dans le temps et dans l’Histoire entre l’Irlande et la France - et des imaginaires différents - ces cultures se sont rencontrées sous des formes originales dont quelques aspects sont évoqués ici
