Die folgenden Ausführungen konzentrieren sich (aber mit Anschließbarkeit an einige bisherige Interpretationsansätze, wie etwa den von Martel [2004]) gemäß dem narratologischen Analysekonzept auf das Gedicht als Reflexionsprozess (und der schließlich damit verbundenen Reflexion von Dichtung) im Rahmen der Imaginations- und Erinnerungsthematik, die bereits mit der Überschrift „Andenken“ angesprochen wird. Auf eine ausführliche Auseinandersetzung mit anderen (insbesondere primär philosophisch-metaphysischen) Deutungsansätzen wird verzichtet

Englische Lyrik I. Identität in Liebe und Religion in der frühen Neuzeit

Seit der griechisch-lateinischen und jüdisch-christlichen Antike und in immer erneuten Rückgriffen auf diese beiden Traditionen haben die Völker Europas einen großen Schatz von Gedichten geschaffen, die die Epochen ihrer Geschichte zum Ausdruck gebracht und selbst mit geformt haben. Während Mythos, Epos und Roman die großen Geschichten der Welt und der Götter, der Völker und Helden erzählt haben, hat das Gedicht schon früh die Ich-sagende Stimme geschaffen und ihr so ermöglicht, sich in den großen und kleinen Ereignissen der Zeit zu Gehör und Geltung zu bringen; Gefühle, Haltungen, Werte auszuprobieren und so neue Mentalitäten vorzubereiten. Diese Arbeitsteilung zwischen Gedicht und Erzählung bleibt in den Vorlesungen dieses Buches immer im Blick, weil sie die inzwischen entwickelten Zugriffsweisen der Erzählforschung, der Narratologie, nutzen, um die besonderen Möglichkeiten der Lyrik zu entdecken. So sieht man klarer, welche Rolle Gedichte und Lieder spielen in der Subjektivierung der Religion und der Liebe seit den Reformationen, wie sie die Freisetzung des Individuums in der Aufklärung fördern und eine neue Natur- und Kunstreligion einüben, den Nationalismus des 19. Jahrhunderts stimulieren und mit gewagten Experimenten neue Haltungen im Prozess der modernen Zivilisation einzunehmen. Die Fachdisziplinen haben diesen gemeinsamen Schatz untereinander verteilt und damit fast aus den Augen verloren. Die öffentliche Vorlesung aber hat ihn den Beteiligten wieder sichtbar gemacht, immer am Beispiel und in einer allen zugänglichen Sprache, die in diesem Buch erhalten geblieben ist.Since ancient Greek-Latin and Judeo-Christian antiquity and also in a constant return to these two traditions the people of Europe have created a great treasure trove of poems. These poems have expressed and shaped the eras of their history. While myth, epic and novel have told the great stories of the world and of the gods, peoples and heroes, the poem created the ego-telling voice at an early age and thus enabled her to make herself heard and accentuated in the great and small events of the time; to try out feelings, attitudes, values and thus to prepare new mentalities. This division of labour between poem and narrative is always kept in view in the lectures of this book, because they use the now developed approaches of narrative research, narratology, to discover the special possibilities of poetry. Thus, one can see more clearly what role poems and songs play in the subjectivization of religion and love since the Reformation, how they promote the liberation of the individual in the Enlightenment, how they promote a new religion of nature and art, how they stimulate the nationalism of the 19th century and how to adopt new attitudes in the process of modern civilization with daring experiments. The specialist disciplines have distributed this common treasure among themselves and thus almost lost sight of it. The public lecture, however, has made it visible to those involved, always using the example and in a language accessible to all, which has been preserved in this book

Light-driven chloride transport kinetics of halorhodopsin

Despite growing interest in light-driven ion pumps for use in optogenetics, current estimates of their transport rates span two orders of magnitude due to challenges in measuring slow transport processes and determining protein concentration and/or orientation in membranes in vitro. In this study, we report, to our knowledge, the first direct quantitative measurement of light-driven Cl transport rates of the anion pump halorohodopsin from Natronomonas pharaonis (NpHR). We used light-interfaced voltage clamp measurements on NpHR-expressing oocytes to obtain a transport rate of 219 (± 98) Cl /protein/s for a photon flux of 630 photons/protein/s. The measurement is consistent with the literature-reported quantum efficiency of ∼30% for NpHR, i.e., 0.3 isomerizations per photon absorbed. To reconcile our measurements with an earlier-reported 20 ms rate-limiting step, or 35 turnovers/protein/s, we conducted, to our knowledge, novel consecutive single-turnover flash experiments that demonstrate that under continuous illumination, NpHR bypasses this step in the photocycle

Early and nonreversible decrease of CD161++ /MAIT cells in HIV infection

HIV infection is associated with immune dysfunction, perturbation of immune-cell subsets and opportunistic infections. CD161++ CD8+ T cells are a tissue-infiltrating population that produce IL17A, IL22, IFN, and TNFα, cytokines important in mucosal immunity. In adults they dominantly express the semi-invariant TCR Vα7.2, the canonical feature of mucosal associated invariant T (MAIT) cells and have been recently implicated in host defense against pathogens. We analyzed the frequency and function of CD161++ /MAIT cells in peripheral blood and tissue from patients with early stage or chronic-stage HIV infection. We show that the CD161++ /MAIT cell population is significantly decreased in early HIV infection and fails to recover despite otherwise successful treatment. We provide evidence that CD161++ /MAIT cells are not preferentially infected but may be depleted through diverse mechanisms including accumulation in tissues and activation-induced cell death. This loss may impact mucosal defense and could be important in susceptibility to specific opportunistic infections in HIV

Forms of Sequentiality in Contemporary English Poetry: Simon Armitage and Glyn Maxwell

This article discusses the sequential devices which structure lyric poems. The sequentiality of poems is usually given little systematic attention to in poetry analysis. The main focus tends to be on speaker, imagery, theme and prosody. But a central aspect of the meaning of any poem is the manner in which the progression of the poetic utterance is organised. One such device, widely used in traditional and contemporary poetry, is the schema of the narrative. This article briefly sketches a theoretical approach to the description of the sequential extension of poetic texts and applies it to examples from the work of two prominent contemporary English poets, Simon Armitage, the present poet laureate, and Glyn Maxwell
