Technology and market conditions toward a new competitive landscape in the wireless access market

This article argues that the wireless telecommunication market is about to witness a shift in business models and market structure as a result of the deployment of new broadband access technologies, spectrum management techniques, policy-based network management, and the drive of new entrants to compete against the incumbents. The article discusses four agents of evolutionary changes: a range of broadband wireless access standards and technologies that are frontrunners in the industry’s efforts to embody the next generation of wireless networks; new provider-customer relationships facilitated through changes in the usual contract patterns that will allow consumers to enter short-term and spot contracts with the new wireless providers; an overview of the current debate on spectrum management; and an explanation of how autonomic communications and policybased management would support the new structure. Finally, the article asserts the necessity for the integration of the heterogeneous technologies that make up this emerging, hybrid wireless landscape, and describes the economic characteristics of a new competitive scenario.Postprint (published version

Evaluación de la ejecución presupuestal en la Municipalidad distrital de Santiago de Pupuja periodos 2013 – 2014

Este trabajo es el resultado de una investigación sobre la evaluación de la ejecución presupuestal en la municipalidad distrital de Santiago de Pupuja en los periodos 2013 - 2014 cuyo objetivo principal ha sido evaluar el nivel de ejecución presupuestal y su incidencia en los objetivos y metas institucionales en la Municipalidad Distrital de Santiago de Pupuja, donde se describe los bajos niveles de ejecución presupuestal en gastos de inversión y actividad. En la evaluación de objetivos y metas se utilizó el método deductivo de tipo descriptivo - explicativo, y el diseño no experimental longitudinal. Los resultados obtenidos como fruto del trabajo de investigación son como sigue: Con respecto en la ejecución global de gastos del presupuesto para el año fiscal 2013 solo se ejecutó el 67.2% respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado y para el año fiscal 2014 se logró ejecutar el 85.3% con respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado. En lo que concierne a la ejecución de gastos en inversión en el ejercicio presupuestal 2013 solo se ejecutó el 18.5%; respecto al presupuesto institucional, sin embargo, en el ejercicio presupuestal 2014 se logró ejecutar a 83.7% respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado para gastos en inversión. Además a nivel de recaudación de ingresos en el ejercicio 2013 se logró ejecutar el 81.74% del presupuesto de ingresos respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado, de esto el mayor porcentaje de ingresos se recaudó en el rubro canon, sobre canon, regalías, renta de aduanas y participaciones que representa el 50.13% respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado total, sin embargo, en el ejercicio presupuestal 2014 se logró recaudar el 90.18% del presupuesto de ingresos respecto al presupuesto institucional modificado, de ello el más representativo fue el rubro de fondo de compensación municipal que representa el 49.73% respecto al total del presupuesto institucional modificado del ejercicio 2014Tesi

Lateral resistance of plybamboo wall-panels

This paper deals with the experimental and theoretical behavior of plybamboo (kind of plywood made out of bamboo) wall-panels subjected to lateral load. The wall-panels are part of a house design method proposed in the author's PhD thesis for prefabricated social housing in developing countries. Sixteen fullscaled wallpanels with or without window and door openings were tested and their theoretical capacities estimated. Design wind and seismic loads were determined according to the International Building Code 2000. The results showed that all the specimens present ductile behavior adequate for expected wind and seismic loads. The theoretical models for calculating lateral capacities of timber framed walls gave lower values than the experimental ones. The wall-panels sheathed with plybamboo and traditional plywood showed similar behavior and hence, plybamboo could be used as an alternative sheathing material in timber frame construction. An Inversion Disrupting FAM134B Is Associated with Sensory Neuropathy in the Border Collie Dog Breed

Sensory neuropathy in the Border Collie is a severe neurological disorder caused by the degeneration of sensory and, to a lesser extent, motor nerve cells with clinical signs starting between 2 and 7 months of age. Using a genome-wide association study approach with three cases and 170 breed matched controls, a suggestive locus for sensory neuropathy was identified that was followed up using a genome sequencing approach. An inversion disrupting the candidate gene FAM134B was identified. Genotyping of additional cases and controls and RNAseq analysis provided strong evidence that the inversion is causal. Evidence of cryptic splicing resulting in novel exon transcription for FAM134B was identified by RNAseq experiments. This investigation demonstrates the identification of a novel sensory neuropathy associated mutation, by mapping using a minimal set of cases and subsequent genome sequencing. Through mutation screening, it should be possible to reduce the frequency of or completely eliminate this debilitating condition from the Border Collie breed population

Clinical findings and outcome of dogs with unilateral masticatory muscle atrophy

Background: Little is known about the spectrum of underlying disorders in dogs with unilateral masticatory muscle (MM) atrophy. Objectives: To evaluate the clinical presentation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, and outcome of dogs with unilateral MM atrophy. Animals: Sixty‐three client‐owned dogs. Methods: The medical database was retrospectively reviewed for dogs that underwent MRI for evaluation of unilateral MM atrophy. Imaging studies were reviewed and follow‐up information was obtained from telephone interviews. Results: Presumptive trigeminal nerve sheath tumor (pTNST) was diagnosed in 30 dogs (47.6%); survival time varied from 1 day to 21 months (median, 5 months). Other extra‐axial mass lesions were observed in 13 dogs (20.6%); survival time varied from 6 days to 25 months (median, 2.5 months). In 18 dogs (28.6%), no abnormalities were observed on MRI; neurological signs only progressed in 1 dog. Diagnosis had a significant influence on the type of neurological abnormalities, with additional neurological deficits observed in most dogs with pTNST and in all dogs with other extra‐axial mass lesions. Diagnosis had a significant effect on euthanasia at the time of diagnosis and likelihood of neurological deterioration. Dogs with mass lesions were more likely to be euthanized or experience neurological deterioration, whereas these outcomes occurred less often in dogs in which no causative lesion could be identified. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Trigeminal nerve sheath tumors should not be considered the only cause of unilateral MM atrophy. Our results illustrate the importance of performing a neurological examination and MRI when evaluating dogs with unilateral MM atrophy

Tendencias Investigativas en inclusión de las estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Pedagogía Infantil desde el año 2013 al 2015

El proyecto de investigación, surge del interés por indagar sobre las tendencias investigativas en inclusión y diversidad en las monografías de las estudiantes de Licenciatura en Pedagogía Infantil desde el año 2013 al 2015; la comprensión de este tema, se convierte en una necesidad por parte de los docentes, quienes se apropian de estrategias para responder y atender adecuadamente al contexto de las en el sistema educativo actual. Así mismo, la naturaleza del proyecto educativo de UNIMINUTO y la formación de carácter investigativo, hacen que la impronta de la institución se plasme en la comprensión de las palabras “una educación al alcance de todos y todas”, acogiendo la diversidad desde sus programas como Licenciatura en Pedagogía Infantil en temas como la inclusión, su historia, la diversidad, interculturalidad, comunidades educativas y el rol del docente en la inclusión en proyectos de carácter cualitativo con el objetivo de intervenir o describir las situaciones presentadas en variados contextos
