    Get PDF
With the increasing use of social media, individuals are now exposed to risks stemming from the improper use of their data by their peers. This study replicates Ozdemir, Smith and Benamati\u27s article, exploring the relationships among the constructs of privacy experiences, privacy awareness, trust, risk, and benefits and individuals’ behaviors are impacted by these relationships. We collected 248 valid responses through in-person surveys conducted within a rural area in India. Similar to the original study, the hypotheses were tested using SmartPLS. Our preliminary results enrich existing knowledge by revealing distinct privacy concerns in rural India compared with Western settings. Our findings not only reaffirm but also extend the original study’s implications, making it relevant to various contexts

The role of organizational competence on information security job performance

Organizations invest manpower and resources to ensure that sensitive corporate data is secure in the hands of its employees. Information security policies of these organizations explicitly state responsibilities for employees. But there is a massive gap between employee security performance and understanding of their information security requirements. In this study, we explore the factors that can enhance information security job performance of employees within organizations. We argue that employee information security performance can be enhanced by developing organizational security competencies. We conduct the argument through a case study of a public sector bank in India. The in-depth case study allows us to develop a theoretical understanding of how different aspects of organizational competence allow organizations to come together to enhance information security performance

Understanding Generation Z’s Information Security Behaviors Regarding Penalties, Pressures and Perceived Effectiveness

    Get PDF
Effective management of information security remains of paramount importance. While end users are often the focus in terms of compliance with policies, how Generation Z behaves with respect to information security has not received much interest. Monitoring and influencing Generation Z behaviors pose substantial challenges in the domain of information security. In this paper, we construct and empirically validate a theoretical model that delves into the influence of penalties, external pressures, and the perceived effectiveness of Generation Z action on their adherence to information security policies. Our research draws from a survey response collected from 202 Generation Z individuals. Notably our findings underscore the security behaviors can be swayed by a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. However, we found that amongst extrinsic motivation factors the role penalties were insignificant. But we found that the role of social pressure was highly significant among Generation Z. In contrast the role of intrinsic motivation was insignificant, hence suggesting that while intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are important, they seem to have a differing role depending on the context and the generations

Tropical pyomyositis is characterized by deep suppurative skeletal muscle infection most commonly by Staphylococcal Aureus (S. aureus) with increasing incidence of infection by community acquired methicillin resistant S. aureus(CA-MRSA). The initial clinical presentation is generally non-specific and requires a high index of suspicion. We report the clinical course of a child from subtropical area of North India who developed multiple deep pyogenous collections, complicated with CA-MRSA septicaemia and followed by unusual complications consistent with Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

The purpose of this review article is to analyse evidence on the use of ventilatory strategies and associated cointerventions in adult patients with COVID-19 induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and to provide treatment recommendations based on these interventions. For each recommendation mentioned, it is important to consider the quality of the evidence reviews thoroughly before applying these recommendations to specific clinical situations or policy decisions. No guideline or recommendations can consider all the compelling clinical features of individual patients, as they are unique. Thus, it is imperative that clinicians, patients, policy makers, and other stakeholders should not regard these recommendations as mandatory. However, this review article, impartially discusses the nuances of treatment available and management protocols followed in many centres around the world for the consumption of all treating physicians.

Risk of depression in subjects with type 2 diabetes Is modulated by a genetic variant within DRD4 gene: North Indian diabetes-depression link exploration study (NIDDLES)

The role and relevance of DRD4 gene SNPs for the risk of depression in type 2 diabetes remains to be clarified. To investigate its association, present cross sectional study was conducted on 399 type 2 diabetics who were diagnosed for depression using primary health care questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) > 10 criteria. 191 subjects were depressed whereas, 208 subjects were found to be clinically non-depressed. Minor allele frequencies of two DRD4 SNPs rs1800955 and rs747302 were 0.45, 0.42 and 0.42, 0.34 in depressed and non depressed subjects respectively. C allele of rs747302 showed risk of depression (OR 1.41 95% CI 1.05- 1.87, P= 0.024) in comparison to G allele. It has been observed that carriers of CC genotype had approximately double the risk of depression (OR 1.96 95% CI 1.08- 3.56, P= 0.03) than GG carriers and this risk manifests in recessive mode

Evidence from India, a country with unique and distinct food intake patterns often characterized by lifelong adherence, may offer important insight into the role of diet in breast cancer etiology. We evaluated the association between Indian dietary patterns and breast cancer risk in a multi-centre case-control study conducted in the North Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. Eligible cases were women 30⁻69 years of age, with newly diagnosed, biopsy-confirmed breast cancer recruited from hospitals or population-based cancer registries. Controls (hospital- or population-based) were frequency matched to the cases on age and region (Punjab or Haryana). Information about diet, lifestyle, reproductive and socio-demographic factors was collected using a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire. All participants were characterized as non-vegetarians, lacto-vegetarians (those who consumed no animal products except dairy) or lacto-ovo-vegetarians (persons whose diet also included eggs). The study population included 400 breast cancer cases and 354 controls. Most (62%) were lacto-ovo-vegetarians. Breast cancer risk was lower in lacto-ovo-vegetarians compared to both non-vegetarians and lacto-vegetarians with odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of 0.6 (0.3⁻0.9) and 0.4 (0.3⁻0.7), respectively. The unexpected difference between lacto-ovo-vegetarian and lacto-vegetarian dietary patterns could be due to egg-consumption patterns which requires confirmation and further investigation
