    Blast Diffusion by Different Shapes of Domes

    Domes have been used since ancient times in constructions. These are effective structures in supporting loads for large span. Dome has an added advantage of having good looking in structural applications. Many shapes of domes are being used nowadays for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes. Specific purpose domes are also used for nuclear containment. Main threats to structures are from the bomb blast. Hence, domes too are to be designed to withstand effectively the pressure energy generated by the blast. A comparative theoretical study is proposed on the different shapes of domes having same weight and thickness.     A technique for determining the optimum mix of logistics service providers of a make-to-order supply chain by formulating and solving a constrained nonlinear cost optimization problem

    In this paper, a technique has been developed to determine the optimum mix of logistic service providers of a make-to-order (MTO) supply chain. A serial MTO supply chain with different stages/ processes has been considered. For each stage different logistic service providers with different mean processing lead times, but same lead time variances are available. A realistic assumption that for each stage, the logistic service provider who charges more for his service consumes less processing lead time and vice-versa has been made in our study. Thus for each stage, for each service provider, a combination of cost and mean processing lead time is available. Using these combinations, for each stage, a polynomial curve, expressing cost of that stage as a function of mean processing lead time is fit. Cumulating all such expressions of cost for the different stages along with incorporation of suitable constraints arising out of timely delivery, results in the formulation of a constrained nonlinear cost optimization problem. On solving the problem using mathematica, optimum processing lead time for each stage is obtained. Using these optimum processing lead times and by employing a simple technique the optimum logistic service provider mix of the supply chain along with the corresponding total cost of processing is determined. Finally to examine the effect of changes in different parameters on the optimum total processing cost of the supply chain, sensitivity analysis has been carried out graphically

    DYNAMIC STACK PORT SERDES POWER UTILIZATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE DATA STACK

    Multiple network switches may be stacked, one atop another, and then interconnected through each switch’s two stack ports (SPs). Within such a stack arrangement, techniques are presented herein that support dynamically reducing the power utilization of a switch’s SP Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) blocks without interrupting any data traffic. Under aspects of the presented techniques, a switch may transition between different power saving modes, which may include a normal mode (encompassing powering down the SerDes blocks of both of the switch’s SPs), an optimized mode (encompassing reducing the speed of the SP SerDes blocks), and a smart mode (encompassing dynamically powering up and down one of the switch’s SPs based on a budgeting of the network traffic). Under further aspects of the presented techniques, the selection of a power saving mode may be based on a switch’s configuration (such as a standalone arrangement, part of a half-ring topology, or part of a full-ring topology) and a switch’s input traffic bandwidth

    Polydopamine-Enabled Biomimetic Surface Engineering of Materials:New Insights and Promising Applications

    Surface modification is an important approach to modify the properties of materials. Numerous approaches have been adopted to tailor the properties of such materials, which have been proven successful at many scales and parameters. However, most of these techniques are often tedious, poorly adhesive, costly, sometimes hazardous, and surface-specific, hence cannot be extended on a large scale and all kinds of surfaces. These shortcomings have led to the emergence of new dopamine (DA) based green surface modification technique where a thin polydopamine (PDA) layer is deposited on surfaces through a facile polymerization of DA under alkaline conditions to enable the surface for various applications. This surface modification strategy has several advantages over other techniques in deposition processing under mild conditions, cost-effective and straightforward ingredients, and applicability to all kinds of surfaces regardless of their sizes, shapes, and types. Moreover, the PDA layer enhances the surface functionality. Therefore, it can serve as a versatile platform for various secondary reactions for a wide range of applications. Herein, the chemistry of DA is summarized and its polymerized form PDA for the modification of different families of materials’ surfaces with an emphasis on energy, environmental and biological applications.</p

    Stress causing dynamic changes of four phytohormones in tobacco and tomato: A GC-MS analysis

    Many analytical procedures have been developed to determine the importance of phytohormones in different plants. The work reported here provides a sensitive, accurate and readily accessible gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique designed for the simultaneous quantitation of phytohormones indole-3-aceticacid (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA), jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA). These signalling molecules were analysed in two different plants, Tomato and Tobacco grown in vitro. The protocol designed to assess the dynamic changes in endogenous concentrations of hormones to study plant responses to abiotic stresses in leaf tissues. A hormone profiling is obtained from leaves of plants exposed to salt stress show that different plant hormones are involved in diverse physiologicsl processes. Crosstalk between these hormones result in synergetic or antagonic interactions which have important roles to play in abiotic stress response

    Loco-regionally advance breast cancer: evaluation of management of breast cancer with special reference to multimodal approach

    Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common human neoplasms, accounting for approximately one-quarter of all cancers in females worldwide and 27% of cancers in developed countries with a western lifestyle. The aims of this study were to evaluate the management of loco-regionally advanced carcinoma of breast with special reference to multimodal approach.Methods: The study was conducted on patients with loco-regionally advanced carcinoma of breast, reporting for treatment in a large multi-specialty teaching institute. All patients of stage IIIB were initially treated with neo-adjuvant (induction) chemotherapy (3 cycles), except 4 patients in the study group offered surgery as initial treatment because of small tumor size with limited peu’d orange change in the skin. After this treatment all patients were reassessed with a thorough clinical examination and restaging work upto detect the response of the chemotherapy. All patients who achieved objective response (complete + partial) were offered surgery, followed by CT and RT.Results: About 60% of the patients were in stage IIIB and 32% in stage IIIA. Majority of the tumors were in T4 category (64%). In 28% cases ipsilateral fixed lymph nodes were found. Histopathological examination revealed 76% (38) patients with infiltrating duct carcinoma, 4 patients (8%) had comedo carcinoma, 2 patients (4%) had lobular carcinoma, 2 patients (4%) had medullary carcinoma and 4 patients (8%) had mucinous carcinoma. Both nonresponsive (NR) and disease progression (DP) patients were in stage III B group. About 76.9% patients of stage IIIB (20) achieved partial response. Only 1 patient (33.3%) developed local recurrence after 10 months of completion of treatment. Median disease free survival (DFS) period of this group is 30.2 months. Recurrence rate is stage IIIA patients was 27.7% and in stage IIIB 37.5%. Maximum numbers of disease free patients were found in T3N1 group (85.7%). Patient with N2 and T4 disease chances of recurrence was more than N1 and T3 lesions.Conclusions: Patients with LBAC who are able to complete treatment with chemotherapy, mastectomy, and postmastectomy radiation have a high probability of locoregional control. Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy can make inoperable locally advanced breast cancer operable and with the use of neo-adjuvant CT, breast conservation surgery is possible even in locally advanced breast cancer. Use of post-operative CT and RT can increase the disease free survival period. Use of multimodal treatment in the form of CT, surgery and radiotherapy can increase the disease free survival period in locally advanced breast cancer. The advent of successful multimodal regimens incorporating systemic treatment (chemotherapy or chemohormonal therapy) as well as local therapy (surgery and radiation) has significantly improved disease-free and overall survival as well as local-regional control. Longer follow-up of these conservatively treated patients will be needed, however, to determine whether local-regional control is preserved

    Non hodgkin’s lymphoma misdiagnosed as tuberculosis: A case report

    Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of malignancies characterized by an abnormal clonal proliferation of T-cells,&nbsp;B-cells or both. Sometimes, tuberculosis and lymphoma presentation can share common symptoms and features. A 37-year-old&nbsp;male patient was admitted in the hospital with complains of shortness of breath associated with cough, loss of appetite, generalized&nbsp;weakness and weight loss since two months. There were no palpable peripheral lymph nodes present anywhere in the body. The&nbsp;patient had no personal or family history of tuberculosis. The chest X-ray showed bilateral mild pleural effusion with confluent radio&nbsp;opacities in both lung fields. Pleural fluid biochemistry showed increased Adenosine deaminase level with increased protein and&nbsp;low sugar. Antitubercular drugs were started after initial diagnosis of tuberculosis. After non improvement in symptoms fine needleaspiration cytology (FNAC) was done from spleen which showed finding suggestive of non- hodgkins lymphoma

    Genetic architecture and population structure of Oat Landraces (Avena sativa L.) using molecular and morphological descriptors

    439-450Oat is grown as winter forage in India. It is a self-pollinated crop with less variability. However, the variation for different morphological traits in oat germplasm may be available at genotypic level. The present study was conducted to find out the genetic diversity among 24 oat landraces using 9 morphological traits and 24 SSR primers. Morphological data observed across the 24 landraces showed wide variation and grouped various landraces into two clusters. GFY and DMY were positively and significantly correlated with most of the traits studied. The molecular analysis using 24 SSR primers resulted amplification of 62 polymorphic alleles with an average of 2.58 alleles per primer. Size of amplified alleles ranged from 70 to 480 bp. Mean polymorphic information content was 0.42 showing moderate level of SSR polymorphism. Cluster analysis based on SSR data differentiated 24 oat landraces into three major clusters. Bayesian model-based STRUCTURE analysis assigned landraces into two clusters and showed the extent of admixture within individuals. Clustering pattern of oat landraces based on SSR marker profiles were different from that of morphometric traits. So, based on the pooled analysis at morphological and molecular level, the landraces IG-02-121, IG-02-129 and IG-02-113 were found superior for morphological traits as well as most distant among all the landraces under study. Hence, these landraces could be used in for future breeding programmes for genetic improvement in oats
