    A PWM Method for Reducing dv/dt and Switching Losses in Two-Stage Power Converters

    Today\u27s semiconductor devices are accompanied by high switching frequencies (\u3e kilo-hertz) and small transition times (\u3c micro-seconds). Such fast transition times are accompanied by undesirable effects such as voltage overshoots at the load terminals, ground leakage currents, wide-band electromagnetic noise, etc. With the advent of wide band-gap devices, several applications are moving towards higher switching frequency operation with at-least an order of magnitude reduction in transition times. While these characteristics are considered necessary to break the next-generation barriers in power density, efficiency and applicability, the undesirable effects due to faster transitions are expected to present obstacles. This work proposes a PWM approach to modify the shape of the switching voltages to overcome the disadvantages of the fast transition times without any increase in switching losses. In fact, several of the switching transitions feature ZVS operation, resulting in reduced switching losses. The paper discusses the analytical details of the approach using a simple DC-DC boost-buck converter and extends it to a DC to three-phase AC converter using the principles of space vector modulation. The paper presents detailed simulation and comparative results in terms of voltage over-shoots over long cables, loss calculations and electromagnetic noise. Results from a laboratory-scale working prototype confirm the benefits of the proposed approach in terms of EMI and loss reduction

    Enriching Academia-Corporate Loop (ACL)—A Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative

    Corporate sector utilises societal resources. It is thus the duty of corporate sector to give back to the society in any form, which we know as corporate social responsibility. When we talk in this context, we generally take into account activities like educating the poor, helping old age homes, going green, reducing waste, sponsoring sports activities, giving donations etc. The problem of not getting employable manpower is a major issue of concern among the corporates. In this paper we propose a new dimension to corporate social responsibility—“Enhancing employability”. By this the Academia-Corporate Loop (ACL) can be enriched. In our study we conduct a schedule amongst white collar employees of organizations in Delhi/NCR and record their responses. On this basis, we check the acceptability of this concept in corporates’ mind and propose an action plan to bridge this gap statistically

    Strategy Formulation for Performance Improvement of Indian Corrugated Industry: An Application of SWOT Analysis and QSPM Matrix

    Strategy formulation and implementation is one of the most important tasks that managers in every organization need to perform. This process has emerged with a range of approaches that enjoyed different levels of support and recognition over time. But, somehow in Indian unorganized SMEs, it has not been applied effectively. The aim of the present study is to develop an appropriate strategy for Indian corrugated firms. To reach this object, the study suggests SWOT analysis along with QSPM and SPACE matrix. Vast literature survey was done to explore different factors for SWOT Analysis and then the weight and importance of each factor was defined by using Focus Group approach. Based on the inputs given by experts during focus group session, EFE and IFE matrixes were developed. The result of SPACE matrix showed that aggressive strategies are required to pursue. The QSPM after analysis resulted in to selection of “Development of R&D Department” strategy with score of 4.06. This proposed strategy is very much beneficial for corrugated industry as the whole possibility of success is based on customization aiming more space in minimum dimensions at best quality and price

    Infrastructure-less Vehicular Communication System Using Li-Fi Technology

    This paper introduces vehicle to vehicle (v2v) communication system using Li-Fi technology. The lightning quick transfer of information between vehicles becomes mandatory when danger is imminent as it can instantly diffuse a potentially hazardous situation. Connected cars will help cities and states cut down on congestion and improve safety. On the road, cars will communicate with each other, automatically transmitting data such as speed, position, and direction, and send alerts to each other if a crash seems imminent. We consider the several scenarios: 1) communication between car and RSU 2) inter vehicular communication 3) communication based network system. The reach ability, delay in transmission and percentage collisions are evaluated with respect to the average distance between cars using pixel oriented visualization. With the help of LEDs fitted in the car, we can transmit data seamlessly using rapid pulse of light over VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc network) for high speed communications

    Mavacamten: a novel avenue towards hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy

    Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heterogeneous genetic cardiovascular disorder. Its pathophysiology involves left ventricular hypertrophy, increased fibrosis, hypercontractility, and reduced compliance. The symptomatic obstructive HCM presents as dyspnoea, syncope, chest pain, palpitations, arrhythmias, or sudden death, usually after provocative manoeuvres like exercise. Until April 2022, treatment options were disease non-specific like Beta blockers, Cardio-selective Calcium Channel Blockers, Dipyridamole, and Ranolazine. Mavacamten is a first-in-class, FDA-approved drug molecule for HCM. It works by selective and reversible inhibition of the cardiac myosin ATPase thereby decreasing the formation of actin- myosin cross- bridges in systole and diastole. The excessive actin-myosin cross-bridging is the hallmark of disease and is responsible for the compromised functioning of the heart in both the systole and diastole phase due to left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction and increased ventricular filling pressure respectively. Mavacamten acts by producing super-relaxed state of heart which is then translated into decreased LVOT obstruction and improved cardiac filling pressures thereby improving the functional capacity and symptoms in patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) stage II, and III symptomatic or obstructive heart failure. Mavacamten is administered orally 2.5-15 mg per day with titration guided by lab investigations and clinical symptoms. Its bioavailability is 85%, undergoes metabolism by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 and is excreted mainly in urine. It is also an enzyme inducer and shows considerable drug interactions. Common adverse effects are dizziness and syncope. Sometimes the drug may worsen heart failure or completely block ventricular function. Mavacamten has raised hopes for the possibility of managing this potentially lethal intrigue disorder with medicines alone

    Characterization of the evolution of underwater DBD plasma jet

    An air plasma jet formed underwater using a coaxial DBD electrode configuration with gas flow is being studied for water treatment applications. The arc-like behavior of the discharge in the absence of any obvious return electrode is not well understood. This study seeks to understand the underlying nature of the arc-like jet mode by studying the evolution of the discharge from microdischarge to jet mode. Photographic and spectroscopic data are used to develop a phenomenological model of discharge evolution. Time-averaged spectra were used to assign an average plume and electron temperature. Calculated jet temperatures were consistent with observed affects such as melting and oxide layer formation on a downstream substrate.     Non hodgkin’s lymphoma misdiagnosed as tuberculosis: A case report

    Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of malignancies characterized by an abnormal clonal proliferation of T-cells, B-cells or both. Sometimes, tuberculosis and lymphoma presentation can share common symptoms and features. A 37-year-old male patient was admitted in the hospital with complains of shortness of breath associated with cough, loss of appetite, generalized weakness and weight loss since two months. There were no palpable peripheral lymph nodes present anywhere in the body. The patient had no personal or family history of tuberculosis. The chest X-ray showed bilateral mild pleural effusion with confluent radio opacities in both lung fields. Pleural fluid biochemistry showed increased Adenosine deaminase level with increased protein and low sugar. Antitubercular drugs were started after initial diagnosis of tuberculosis. After non improvement in symptoms fine needleaspiration cytology (FNAC) was done from spleen which showed finding suggestive of non- hodgkins lymphoma

    The Gene Ontology knowledgebase in 2023

    The Gene Ontology (GO) knowledgebase (http://geneontology.org) is a comprehensive resource concerning the functions of genes and gene products (proteins and noncoding RNAs). GO annotations cover genes from organisms across the tree of life as well as viruses, though most gene function knowledge currently derives from experiments carried out in a relatively small number of model organisms. Here, we provide an updated overview of the GO knowledgebase, as well as the efforts of the broad, international consortium of scientists that develops, maintains, and updates the GO knowledgebase. The GO knowledgebase consists of three components: (1) the GO-a computational knowledge structure describing the functional characteristics of genes; (2) GO annotations-evidence-supported statements asserting that a specific gene product has a particular functional characteristic; and (3) GO Causal Activity Models (GO-CAMs)-mechanistic models of molecular "pathways" (GO biological processes) created by linking multiple GO annotations using defined relations. Each of these components is continually expanded, revised, and updated in response to newly published discoveries and receives extensive QA checks, reviews, and user feedback. For each of these components, we provide a description of the current contents, recent developments to keep the knowledgebase up to date with new discoveries, and guidance on how users can best make use of the data that we provide. We conclude with future directions for the project

    Dynamics of Gender and Health in Bama’s Sangati and Kadeeja Mumtas’ Barsa

    Gender and health are two separate disciplines having a strong connection with each other. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), gender is a core social determinant of health and health inequalities. These health inequalities are associated with the lifestyle, accessibility and care provided to men and women. In most Indian societies, women are perceived as child-bearers, caregivers having no say in the communities they live in. Moreover they have been shoved into margins and an indifferent attitude is formed for them. From the viewpoint of gender, class or ethnic disparities women in India face a multitude of health and hygiene problems. This marginalization causes inequitable access to essential human needs such as water, proper health and sanitary facilities. Consequently women have poorer health than men.  Another form in which women are suppressed and oppressed are sexual harassment, violence, physical abuse, occupational and environmental hazards due to which they not only suffer from physiological problems but it also affects their mental health like psychological stress and strain. These health issues deteriorate their well- being. Due to casteism prevalent in our society the so- called power holders exploit Dalit women treating them as lower than humans and ‘other’. Bama’s Sangati is a look at the part of the lives of those Paraiya women. Kadeeja Mumtas’ novel Barsa is a commentary on the position of women in Muslim society focusing on the illegal practices like circumcision. This paper aims to examine the issues which the Tamil Christian Dalit women and Muslim women face in terms of health and sexuality as discussed in Bama’s Sangati and Kadeeja Mumtas’ Barsa through depicting a critique of several generations of women
