    Interlayer Interactions in Anisotropic Atomically-thin Rhenium Diselenide

    Recently, two-dimensional (2D) materials with strong in-plane anisotropic properties such as black phosphorus have demonstrated great potential for developing new devices that can take advantage of its reduced lattice symmetry with potential applications in electronics, optoelectronics and thermoelectrics. However, the selection of 2D material with strong in-plane anisotropy has so far been very limited and only sporadic studies have been devoted to transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) materials with reduced lattice symmetry, which is yet to convey the full picture of their optical and phonon properties, and the anisotropy in their interlayer interactions. Here, we study the anisotropic interlayer interactions in an important TMDC 2D material with reduced in-plane symmetry - atomically thin rhenium diselenide (ReSe2) - by investigating its ultralow frequency interlayer phonon vibration modes, the layer dependent optical bandgap, and the anisotropic photoluminescence (PL) spectra for the first time. The ultralow frequency interlayer Raman spectra combined with the first study of polarization-resolved high frequency Raman spectra in mono- and bi-layer ReSe2 allows deterministic identification of its layer number and crystal orientation. PL measurements show anisotropic optical emission intensity with bandgap increasing from 1.26 eV in the bulk to 1.32 eV in monolayer, consistent with the theoretical results based on first-principle calculations.     Determination of beam incidence conditions based on the analysis of laser interference patterns

    Beam incidence conditions in the formation of two-, three- and four-beam laser interference patterns are presented and studied in this paper. In a laser interference lithography (LIL) process, it is of importance to determine and control beam incidence conditions based on the analysis of laser interference patterns for system calibration as any slight change of incident angles or intensities of beams will introduce significant variations of periods and contrasts of interference patterns. In this work, interference patterns were captured by a He-Ne laser interference system under different incidence conditions, the pattern period measurement was achieved by cross-correlation with, and the pattern contrast was calculated by image processing. Subsequently, the incident angles and intensities of beams were determined based on the analysis of spatial distributions of interfering beams. As a consequence, the relationship between the beam incidence conditions and interference patterns is revealed. The proposed method is useful for the calibration of LIL processes and for reverse engineering applications

    Graphene-wrapped reversible reaction for advanced hydrogen storage

    Here, we report the fabrication of a graphene-wrapped nanostructured reactive hydride composite, i.e., 2LiBH4-MgH2, made by adopting graphene-supported MgH2 nanoparticles (NPs) as the nanoreactor and heterogeneous nucleation sites. The porous structure, uniform distribution of MgH2 NPs, and the steric confinement by flexible graphene induced a homogeneous distribution of 2LiBH4-MgH2 nanocomposite on graphene with extremely high loading capacity (80 wt%) and energy density. The well-defined structural features, including even distribution, uniform particle size, excellent thermal stability, and robust architecture endow this composite with significant improvements in its hydrogen storage performance. For instance, at a temperature as low as 350 °C, a reversible storage capacity of up to 8.9 wt% H2, without degradation after 25 complete cycles, was achieved for the 2LiBH4-MgH2 anchored on graphene. The design of this three-dimensional architecture can offer a new concept for obtaining high performance materials in the energy storage field

    Objective: Finding out the relationship between five-pattern personality and anxiety 、depression characteristics of the DOI patients. Methods: 200 DOI patients were selected in the Infertility Specialist of Guangzhou Liwan District Hospital of Chinese Medicine,at the same time, researchers choose normal women as controls. Respondents filled in the Five-pattern Personality Scales、SAS、SDS and general information questionnaire. Results: The proportion of shaoyin personality of the DOI patients(50%) is significantly higher than the normal women(22%). And no yin and yang personality was observed in patients with DOI. The SAS and SDS score of the DOI patients, listed in descending order, is as follow, taiyin personality、shaoyin personality、taiyang personality、shaoyang personality、yin and yang personality. Conclusion: The main five-pattern personality of DOI is shaoyin personality. The patients of the taiyin and shaoyin personality are more likely to have the characteristics of anxiety and depression.目的  探究排卵功能障碍性不孕症患者不同中医五态人格类型与焦虑、抑郁情绪的关联性。方法  确诊为排卵功能障碍性不孕症患者200例,同时在本院选择正常已育妇女作为对照组。采用《五态人格量表》、《焦虑自评量表(SAS)》、《抑郁自评量表(SDS)》及一般资料问卷进行调查。结果  排卵功能障碍性不孕症组中少阴型中医人格(50%)明显高于正常妇女组(22%),且没有出现阴阳平和型中医人格。不孕症组中太阳、少阳、少阴、太阴型中医人格的焦虑、抑郁总分4组间不全相等(P<0.001)。结论  排卵功能障碍性不孕症患者以少阴型中医人格为主,且太阴、少阴型中医人格的患者更易出现高焦虑、高抑郁

    Phenotypic and transcriptional analysis of the osmotic regulator OmpR in Yersinia pestis

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The osmotic regulator OmpR in <it>Escherichia coli </it>regulates differentially the expression of major porin proteins OmpF and OmpC. In <it>Yersinia enterocolitica </it>and <it>Y. pseudotuberculosis</it>, OmpR is required for both virulence and survival within macrophages. However, the phenotypic and regulatory roles of OmpR in <it>Y. pestis </it>are not yet fully understood.</p> <p>Results</p> <p><it>Y. pestis </it>OmpR is involved in building resistance against phagocytosis and controls the adaptation to various stressful conditions met in macrophages. The <it>ompR </it>mutation likely did not affect the virulence of <it>Y. pestis </it>strain 201 that was a human-avirulent enzootic strain. The microarray-based comparative transcriptome analysis disclosed a set of 224 genes whose expressions were affected by the <it>ompR </it>mutation, indicating the global regulatory role of OmpR in <it>Y. pestis</it>. Real-time RT-PCR or <it>lacZ </it>fusion reporter assay further validated 16 OmpR-dependent genes, for which OmpR consensus-like sequences were found within their upstream DNA regions. <it>ompC</it>, <it>F</it>, <it>X</it>, and <it>R </it>were up-regulated dramatically with the increase of medium osmolarity, which was mediated by OmpR occupying the target promoter regions in a tandem manner.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>OmpR contributes to the resistance against phagocytosis or survival within macrophages, which is conserved in the pathogenic yersiniae. <it>Y. pestis </it>OmpR regulates <it>ompC</it>, <it>F</it>, <it>X</it>, and <it>R </it>directly through OmpR-promoter DNA association. There is an inducible expressions of the pore-forming proteins OmpF, C, and × at high osmolarity in <it>Y. pestis</it>, in contrast to the reciprocal regulation of them in <it>E. coli</it>. The main difference is that <it>ompF </it>expression is not repressed at high osmolarity in <it>Y. pestis</it>, which is likely due to the absence of a promoter-distal OmpR-binding site for <it>ompF</it>.</p

    Regulatory effects of cAMP receptor protein (CRP) on porin genes and its own gene in Yersinia pestis

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The cAMP receptor protein (CRP) is a global bacterial regulator that controls many target genes. The CRP-cAMP complex regulates the <it>ompR-envZ </it>operon in <it>E. coli </it>directly, involving both positive and negative regulations of multiple target promoters; further, it controls the production of porins indirectly through its direct action on <it>ompR-envZ</it>. Auto-regulation of CRP has also been established in <it>E. coli</it>. However, the regulation of porin genes and its own gene by CRP remains unclear in <it>Y. pestis</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p><it>Y. pestis </it>employs a distinct mechanism indicating that CRP has no regulatory effect on the <it>ompR-envZ </it>operon; however, it stimulates <it>ompC </it>and <it>ompF </it>directly, while repressing <it>ompX</it>. No transcriptional regulatory association between CRP and its own gene can be detected in <it>Y. pestis</it>, which is also in contrast to the fact that CRP acts as both repressor and activator for its own gene in <it>E. coli</it>. It is likely that <it>Y. pestis </it>OmpR and CRP respectively sense different signals (medium osmolarity, and cellular cAMP levels) to regulate porin genes independently.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Although the CRP of <it>Y. pestis </it>shows a very high homology to that of <it>E. coli</it>, and the consensus DNA sequence recognized by CRP is shared by the two bacteria, the <it>Y. pestis </it>CRP can recognize the promoters of <it>ompC</it>, <it>F</it>, and <it>X </it>directly rather than that of its own gene, which is different from the relevant regulatory circuit of <it>E. coli</it>. Data presented here indicate a remarkable remodeling of the CRP-mediated regulation of porin genes and of its own one between these two bacteria.</p

    Tunable particle separation in a hybrid dielectrophoresis (DEP)- inertial microfluidic device

    Particle separation is indispensable in many microfluidic systems and holds a broad range of biomedical applications. Inertial microfluidic devices that work solely on intrinsic hydrodynamic forces and inertial effects can offer label-free, high throughput and high efficiency separation performance. However, the working range of the current inertial microfluidic systems is obtained by tailoring the inertial lift forces and secondary flow drag through flow speed. Each channel design is normally effective for specific target particles, which inevitably lacks the flexibility for various particle mixtures. Redesigning the structure and dimension of microchannels for new sets of particle mixtures is often time-consuming and expensive. In this work, by introducing an external dielectrophoretic force field and coupling it with inertial forces, we proposed here an innovative hybrid DEP-inertial microfluidic platform for particle tunable separation. The working principle of the device was explained and its functionality was validated by experiments. In addition, the dimension of target particle mixture can be varied by adjusting the electrical voltage without redesigning the channel structure or dimensions. It is expected that the proposed DEP-inertial concept can work as a flexible platform for a wide range of biomedical applications
