It is often difficult to create thought-provoking projects that allow students the ability to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. This is particularly challenging in a graduate level Management of Information Technology course that covers a vast array of topics throughout. In an effort to expand student knowledge of web analytics and to encourage professional development, a web analytics course project is assigned. The project presented within offers a proposed experiential learning opportunity for students enrolled in this (or similar) course. Project learning objectives and specifications are presented. Convention Center Management: A Systems Analysis & Design Course Project

A challenge faced by many instructors of systems analysis and design courses is the selection or development of projects that provide challenging, yet suitable, learning experiences for the students. Employing a system development project case in undergraduate MIS courses offers students a multitude of opportunities to experientially examine real-world problems that require real-world solutions. This case provides a proposed experiential learning opportunity for students enrolled in the Systems Analysis & Design course. The learning objectives, project specifications and system requirements are presented, all of which provide students with the information necessary to complete each of the phases of a systems analysis and design methodology. Web-based Accountability: An Integration of Extant Knowledge, Research Gaps and Future Directions

Because Internet-based technologies are readily used by businesses, research scholars have begun to focus on the specific use of such technology by nonprofit organizations for accountability purposes. A central focus of this paper is to review some of the most significant extant literature on web-based accountability, with particular emphasis on conceptual and empirical studies focusing on the nonprofit sector. Much of this research is situated within the public relations literature, as some of the primary elements of online accountability are directly related to establishing relationships and disclosing information to stakeholders. Finally, this paper presents research gaps and future research propositions regarding the impact and value of web-based accountability practices amongst nonprofit organizations

The Systems Analysis and Design Course: An Educators’ Assessment of the Importance and Coverage of Topics

This study examines instructors\u27 perceptions regarding the skills and topics that are most important in the teaching of a Systems Analysis and Design (“SAD”) course and the class time devoted to each. A large number of Information Systems (“IS”) educators at AACSB accredited schools across the United States were surveyed. Shannon‟s entropy is used to analyze the opinions and measure the agreement or disagreement among survey respondents. Findings suggest that object-oriented analysis and structured analysis are topics on which instructors spend the most time, and are also the topics for which there is the greatest disagreement regarding importance. Conversely, the greatest agreement among survey respondents occurs with topics that, on the whole, were perceived as less important and to which less class time is devoted. This analysis provides a basis for comparison to practitioner perceptions

Accreditation and certification in the non-profit sector: organizational and economic implications

The non-profit sector of the US economy is a special class of entities with an expansive array of organizations and activities dedicated to the common good and well-being of others. Even though this sector has constructed creative and forward thinking initiatives, obstacles remain which interfere with the accomplishment of significant achievements. In order to stay competitive, non-profit organizations are constantly assessing their current capacity to deliver unique needed services. Today, many umbrella associations of non-profits have implemented accreditation and certification programs intended to improve organizational contribution to member organizations. Throughout the sector, non-profit organizations are now seeking to become more ethical, accountable and credible in the eyes of stakeholders. Guided by institutional and agency theories, the research reported herein is designed to offer preliminary insights regarding the organizational and economic implications of pursuing accreditation.
